How can you tell if the shampoo has worked in your scalp and on your hair?

If you bought shampoo that was supposed to work on repairing your hair strands and scalp. How can you know for sure that this shampoo worked on your hair or not. If you have to rinse the shampoo completely out of your hair, then how do you know for sure that this shampoo has worked on your hair or scalp. Once your hair and scalp is rinsed clean then that washes away any traces of the ingredients on the product, right? Is an shampoo still effective once it is rinsed out. How can you tell that it has worked or is working in your scalp or hair. I am sorry that this may sound like a silly question. But, I have always wanted to know how can someone tell if the shampoo has worked on your hair or not once it is rinsed out. Please give me some logical reasons as to how you can tell if the shampoo has worked or not. Thank you for any answers.

hi cream97...nice topic. I recently had a very bad experience with a shampoo i bought. i used that shampoo for like two weeks and my hair was soft but that after that i notice that my scalp starts to develop dandruff. it was a horrible sight and i have to throw away the remaining of the shampoo even though it was not even half empty (i bought the big bottle). So i change to Rejoice and it got better. My first choice would be Head and Shoulder but I cannot find one since the town that i'm staying is very small and the stuff that they are selling are very limited. Happy mylotting...:-)

If I were you I'd use the shampoo as a cleanser, my family loves to use the unsuitable shampoo to wipe the floor or the table, as it should clean oil dirt and it works quite good.

hi cream97 With me if it leaves my hair smelling good, and it looks shiny and feels soft to my fingers then I know it is working as it should.I expect a good shampoo to make my hair shiny and soft and manageable. Your hair should feel smooth to your touch like it has some natural oil in it. I am fond of Herbal Essences totally twisted as it does all the things i want of it and brings out the natural waves in my long hair. also its smells so good. This is by Clairol and their products seem to me to be really great.

I used Clairol before, I like the smell, it smells really good, but I didn't think it suits my hair. I have very thick hair and a little bit natural curl.

Thanks for that tip about Herbal Essences. My daughter has very long, naturally curly/wavy hair. Her hair was completely curly when she was two years old and her hair was only up to her neck length. But, since it's gotten waist length, the curls have given away to soft waves and now the hair is extremely dry. I have been looking for something new to try on her hair. I'm desperate at this point, cause she's constantly getting tangles. Can't wait to try this out.

You should be able to tell on your Hair itself also it is working while you are massaging it into your Hair I always buy the matching Conditioner anyway and with a Conditioner you never wash it out totally so it works all Day

Well, for me it's easy because of the natural curl, I tend to get frizzy hair very easily if I don't use the right type of shampoo and conditioner. I always have to use conditioner, or my hair is hopeless. I guess the best way to tell is to see if it is doing what you purchased it to do. Is it still frizzy...do you still have dandruff...does your hair still seem oily? I don't think this was a silly question. I hope I answered it!

They say that the shampoo should create plenty of bubbles as you massage it to your scalp and there should not be any greasy feeling once you rinse them off. It should smell good as well.

I use shampoo regularly and I always know if it has worked or not... The method that I use is this: I apply shampoo to wet hair and leave it as it is for a few minutes. After that I rinse it all and dry my hair with a towel and that time, effect is immediately known... Hair become silky and clean! I think, if you follow this method it'll work for you too... Have fun!

I have thought about what you have asked and I think I might have an answer for you. My mom use to tell me that if a shampoo is right for you. Then, you will notice a difference in your hair after a week. I will give you an example: I was loosing my hair and I thought it was my cancer coming back. So, I went to my doc. and told her what was going on. She said, "Maybe, it's your thyroid." I had test taken and around that time of the day my niece called and I told her. She told me the name of a shampoo to try. Well, while I waited for the test that week I was using that shampoo my niece said to try. My doc. calls and said everything was fine. And, test where all good. My hair stop falling out and is looking nice. I told the doc. about the shampoo and she said, "Sometimes all it is is finding the right shampoo for your hair." So, you might just want to try a different shampoo until you notice that your hair looks bright and healthy. The shampoo I use now is "Horse -n- Tail." Hope, that helps you out! *Peace and Love get's you through everything in Life*

I can say my hair has become unmanageable since I reached puberty, I didn't know why but people always told me my hair was affected by my hormonal changes occurring during puberty, so my hair became thick and also frizzy. However, I am now very happy that I solved my hair problem, my husband always tells me I used to wash my hair wrongly and that was why my hair became unmanageable, he has a very good, healthy, soft and shiny hair, he asked me to wash hair like his way which only washes hair by shampoo and use no conditioner, my hair becomes soft and easy to manage, but I must need to use a hair blower to blow my hair dry. I use conditioners/hair mask on the weekend, it helps moisture my hair, but I must rinse my hair once more with shampoo. I've started to wash my hair this way for half year and my hair becomes unbelievably good. Our hair should not be covered by chemicals, so the best shampoo is to wash away all chemicals from our hair and scalp. If a shampoo I used let me have dandruff, it means it doesn't work on me. I love my shampoo with good smell, and not making my hair oily very quick, and it should soften my hair as well, otherwise I will not use it to wash my hair again.

I use the mentholated shampoos. So when I put it on my hair and leave it for a minute or two, I would feel my scalp tingling, that's when I know its working. Also, my hair is a bit 'wild' if I don't shampoo it. One of the ways I know if the shampoo has worked is when I'm able to tame my hair after drying. I guess that even though we rinse it off completely, a little bit of the shampoo is always left on the hair for it to work.

hello cream97. not a silly question, in fact scientific. i readily know if the shampoo is not good enough for me if i develop dandruff. usually it developes in a week of use. last time i was using a specific brand and my hair was soft but then dandruff came so i discontinued use. now i used H&S menthol. nice feeling of coolness on scalp and no dandruff. but of course this may not be applicable to you. find out for yourself, do some test. sooner or later you'll see whats working for you. :)
