How much longer will we be in a recession?

Well, we have been in a recession since late 2007 and it is the begining of 2010. Fornately I have not been affected by it too much until recently. I know some people who stil can't find a job, people who go back to school to get a different degree and it worries me if this will happen again before I die. Some people say in certain states it is starting to look better but I know in others (Florida) the unemployment rate is still high. How do you feel about the recession? Do you think we will be out of it soon? How has it affected it you?

I believe the recession will be around for another year or so. Yes its affecting me because I can't find a job. I haven't worked since May of 2008. After working for 32 years its not easy being home all the time. I do have my granddaughter to keep me happy but I still feel so guilty not working. I guess being home is not something that comes easy to me after working outside the house for so many years.

I'm surviving on the money I made when I sold my house in New York in 2007. I moved to New Mexico and worked for five months and had to quit because I was working for family and getting sick. Never work for family its the worse thing anyone can do. I do stay positive and no God will guide me in the right direction.

Wow since May of 2008!? How do you survive? When I first moved to Miami in 2006 I didn't work for 3 months and that killed me I can't imagine almost 2 years. Just stay positive and you will find something soon!

It is definitely better than it was when it started. For me, it all started on December 2008. That was when the company I work for started laying off people. Some of these people have come back, but there are still a lot out there living on Unemployment Insurance.
They say it's slowly coming back. I can see some of the programs at work slowly starting to ramp up. But it could still be late this year or early next year. Until then, I'll be hanging on to my pins and needles.

I felt it in the beginning of 2009 but then our company stayed open and started to do well. Now we took a dump and sales are way down and it starting to make me more careful about my decisions the future of my job..

It does seem like the government messes everything up. I haven't seen any change since Obama took office. I am not saying that McCain would have done any better but I haven't seen anything

I have been attacked by the most recent recession and never have felt that before like you. My salary does not rise while the price is soaring. The housing price is really not affordable and my award is also cancled. How frustrating it is!But I think no need to grumble at it because all the people around the would are facing the same proble. What we can do is cooperate to make a solution to this problem.

My friend tells me that I complain too much. During the recession I have gotten my first apartment and I had a steady job. But times are getting hard, it hurts me because this is time I am suppose to be finding out what I want to do, so 5 years from now I can go to a job and make the salary I deserve. I don't want this recession to go on much further because I want to get married, have kids, buy a house, etc. I don't want this to be over when I am 40 and I have missed out on a lot because of this economy.

Right now everyone says the answer is to go back to school but it seems like even if you finish school it is not going to help you because it is true what you said. People are searching for people with experience.

It does seem like everything is going up in price. Groceries kill me each month! I mean thank God that we actually had a winter in Florida this year or my light bill will have been the end of me as well.

Even though I am not in the US, I can also feel the recession all the way here in Asia. Jobs are getting scarce, and prices are going up. My family is affected because some of my brothers work online and depend on the consumer habits of the US. Both say that shopping online has gone down, and so their income has gone down too.

The US has cut a lot of shopping down, especially online I know I have. It is getting so expensive for everything!

In a market economy that is where the market is allowed to act freely there will be recessions..it's just like businesses that goes through the bane phase every now and then and again it booms..so is the economy..Life has been hit hard for this recession..You are lucky that you didn't have to face hardships but as you said there are lots of individuals who suffered and still suffering due to this recession..However I myself is not much affected as I have a pharma business which is more or less recession proof..I do believe that we will be able to get out of this recession very soon within this year and the economies all around the globe will be vibrant..though one cannot guarantee that there won't be any recession in the future yet we keep our fingers crossed and hope that such recessions like the one we are going through right now don't occur ever.

The recession has made me tighten my belt and to take on a roommate (even though I love my privacy). I think the recession is going to last for several more years. The legislation being passed will only make it linger longer, if not get worse. We haven't been hit as hard in our area as others have, but it's still not good.

I recently got my own apartment for the first time so I am enjoying my privacy but I feel like I should get a roommate until I know for sure I am in good standing. Sometimes I feel like any day in my job it could close, or I will be told I have 2 weeks or something.

Booms and busts have been a part of America's history. It was only a matter of time until we experienced another recession. That there will be another is inevitable. The best way to deal is to only buy things that you can pay for with cash, basically to live within your means. If you need to pull out a credit card, then you cannot afford it. Many Americans love to shop and buy new stuff. There is nothing wrong with wanting things. The problem is that many use borrowed money to pay for it.
