When does a new life begin?

When does a new life begin? At the moment of fertilization? Implantation? Or at some other time?
I do not wish to start a political debate or one concerning abortion or women's rights... I'm simply curious as to what the wonderful people here believe about the beginning of life.

I reckon as soon as the woman discovers she is pregnant. As a mother of two this is when I felt I had a life growing inside of me and I had to eat, sleep and live more sensibly.
