Hi fellow mylotters...how many of you have taste durian? Durian is one of my favourite fruit but now i don't eat them much because i have learnt my lesson. When the weather is cool that is the best time to eat durian because durian flesh can help warm the body, like rising the body heat. But when you eat too much especially when it is hot, one might fall into fever and that whats happen to me. I ate too much and I was suffering for two days. But that's not my point here; I notice that many people are not fond of this fruit because of the smell but can there be any other reasons?
I watched fear factor once and they are given 4 choices, and one of them is durian. None of the contestants choose durian and i felt sorry for them since they choose to eat goat eyes, insects and i forgot the other thing. So what do you think???

Sorry for them indeed. Durian is too good to be unlikable. I love durian and so do the other members of my family. We like eating durian very much. Some people thinks that its really stinky but I think its just something to do with the mind set..hehe! Maybe easy for me to say cause I am used to eating it. I just dont think that durian smells like hell. It actually smells like heaven for me. Makes my mouth water talking about this.

when i just came to this town where i'm staying i was like raining durian...everyone was selling and everyone was buying, but because the weather is VERY hot, i only ate a few. it seems like everyone in this little town love durian and when the durian season is over, many are still looking for the king of fruit.

Durian has a bad smell. I like the durian candy and goodies. Eating it as in fruit and fruit. I think I won't last that long. My boardmate brought it from home and it was not that yummy. I'm not even addicted to it. That's fine it's still yummy when it's made to goodies

I understand not all can accept the smell, my cousin and uncle once vomited after smelling the odor. I remember once during our late grandfather's birthday a few years back, my mum ordered a cake with durian flavor. Both my cousin and uncle did not even come close to look at the cake and both did not ate any. They say the smell is too strong for them...one of my favorite would be durian paste or here we call it 'tempoyak'; usually we cook tempoyak with anchovies add a little bit of salt, sugar and chilies. Yummy and the smell is not that strong but because durian is a seasonal fruit so we don't get to have tempoyak all the time.

I should say that Durian is not the king of fruits but rather the king of smelly fruits. I could not take its bad odor. It gives me headache. However when it is used for candies or yam it is alright with me. But fresh fruit, I simply could not take the odor. It stinks and I can't really eat it. Now with regard to those contestants who chose to eat goat eyes, or insects I would say they are crazy. If the choices are goat eyes, insects or durian then of course I will choose durian. I just have to cover my nose perhaps. It is still fruit anyway even if it is smelly but the goat's eye and insects??? I'd be sick if I eat them. Yuck!

Yup that is true...at least durian is smelly but the taste is sweet. just imagine eating goat's eyes or insect, no matter how hard you close you eyes or pretend it will still taste bad (i think because i see the contestant have tears in their eyes especially the girls while trying to swallow down those food).

For those contestants they are all out of their mind that is why they choose those insects where in fact that thing is not a food. It may smell like hell, but to tell it also taste like heaven. Just try once and for sure you'll be addicted into. By the i like durian because of a lot of things,
1. It taste sweet and yummy
2. its the only fruits that is creamy and milky
3. I cant simply get away with durian even if its summer.
I dont have any reason why i dont like durian.. Ohh I dont like the shell of it. its difficult to open it. I couldn't open it by myself without asking my dad. And my dad loves durian as well. So I couldn't eat durian by myself.

Durian tastes delicious when it was make into candies or cakes. I likes to eat them and can always purchased them from my nearby bakery shop. But, the price of durian candies and cakes are more expensive than ordinary types, so i purchased them only on occasion. As for eating fresh durian, i don't really like it because my home will smell stink for days although the durian is already eaten by my family and me for days. I think those contestants should choose eating durian rather than eating those disgusting food because durian is still a fruit, only it's smelly.

i totally agree with you myfb2009...durian is smelly but it is still a fruit. we were like screaming hoping that one of the contestants pick the durian instead of the other disgusting food but none of them was willing to risk eating one because they cannot pass the smell. durian smell tend to stay longer and it can make the house stink...i usually get dizzy when the smell stay to long.

Never heard of the fruit before. I would choose to eat a yucky fruit over a bug anyday. What makes you like it so much, what other fruit is it like? I never heard of a fruit that can make you get a fever like that. Interesting. Take care

Oh i guess in your country you don't have this fruit. Durian usually grow in asia countries like in Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines etc. The fruit is quite creamy and sweet but some durian have very strong smell and some very mild, depending on the type i guess. I don't think there are any other fruit like it...you should try it if you can pass the smell. I like durian because it is tasty...hehehe, thanks for your responding :-)

Oh! I have heard that about durian being the king of fruits!
To tell you the truth, I can't stand the smell neither the taste of durian, so I understand that those contestants didn't choose durian, but maybe if I had to choose between durian and insects... I find insects more disgusting

that is so true madteaparty...i too would choose durian instead of insect anytime hahaha. you see there is a kind of plant that people in my state like to eat, they say it help to throw away the toxic in your body but it smells like cockroach, i can never eat this, and that is a plant not the real thing. I can't imagine eating real insect...

Hi curiousplay, I believe all malaysian, including me of course have tasted durian. For it's top of the 10 most delicious local fruits in our country. I never let go the chance to entertain my appetite for sure during every durian season. I even had taken durian as my three daily meals before
I could hardly refrain myself from taking this wonderful fruit once I get the smell of it. This happened during my younger days only. Nowadays I tend to take fruits in good quality only. Of course the price is relative higher as well. I usually would take many mangosteen after eating durian. If mangosteen is not available I will drink lots of water with a bit of salt added to it. This could help to reduce the body heat causes by the fruit rich in vitamin and energy
Happy posting

When I was a child, I didn't like durian because its bad smell. When I grow up, once I ate it again occasionally and I started to like it. This is a strange change. I didn't think it tasted bad. And the bad smell is no longer so terrible. And it seems that I enjoy this bad smell when I am eating durian:)
I love China

I love Durian... I was first year college I first tasted that fruit... at first, I did not like the smell and even the taste, but as I ate it several times... I was addicted with that fruit... I love durian now and it is my favorite fruit though I usually bought apple. When I have some extra money I would really go to the fruit market to get a kilo of Durian... It is a best flavor too to some iced juice...

Durian fruit can be pretty expensive especially when it is late in the season, seller tend to place higher price but i know many of the durian lovers are okay with this. I think in Sabah, we even have a special festival for Durian. During that month they sell durian (all type of them from yellow, red, brown and green) some more with a very low price.

I find it ridiculous that durian was part of a challenge in Fear Factor. Really? And between some animal part and a fruit, I think that's the easiest decision you ever have to make! I used to dislike durian when I was a kid. Growing up with the people around me who feast on durian, I got used to it. There's only one durian variety I like to eat though. The rest, believe you me, I just want to smell. Reminds me of soft butter for some reason.

yeah that what we thought too, its like you want to shout to the contestants and tell them to chose the fruit instead of the other disgusting choices available. it was kind of funny though seeing them playing hard just trying to avoid eating durian, and they never even tasted it before.

I have only eaten durian fruit in candy form. This fruit is abundant in the region where my uncle live and all my cousins love eating this. When I spent my vacation there, they tried to convince me to eat one as it is very yummy according to them. And i think it's true for although it costs much higher than other fruits in season but still plenty are buying this fruit. But when I tried to eat a portion, it's smell turned me off, hence what I ate is durian candy and i think it tasted okay.

Hello mylotters!!I love DURIAN eventhough others hate it,most find it with a foul smell but it really does smell good,It's all in the mind & I've actually know a lot of things about durian since it is one of the fruit product of my place, it doesn't make you feverish, you think you have fever because it raises the temperature of your body thus make you feel you have fever and the fact things is you should not eat durian too much as it causes you blood pressure to increase as well...we should also be aware that too much of everything is not good no matter how good it is..but just a fact that there are lots of variety of Durian & it decreases the toxic contents of the body & one thing,in case you will try it,like it but doesn't like the smell, put water on its open pulp, wash your hands there & you won't even know you've touch the fruits. So the only reason i guess some people don't like durian mainly because of its smell.

hi shenlynn7723, yup that was a mistake that i will never repeat. there is a way that will help make sure the body temperature maintain as it is by drinking from the pulp itself. just put water and drink from it; i wished i have known this earlier though.

Hi curiousplay,
Durian is the best fruit you can have. It's sweetness, milky and the aroma is wonderful.
I can eat 3 or 4 durian in one go. It does not matter if it is a rainy day or a hot and humid day, I do not mind. If you can not bear the heat after eating durians, drink water from its shell. It can reduce the body heat (as what older generation advice me).

i eat durians but its not my favourite. its a heaty fruit and if you are having fever, stay away from it. some people say durian is good if you have a cold cough. then eat it and most likely, the cold cough will go away. durian is rich in vitamin D too. you can eat durian alone or eat with rice. you can make durian cake, durian ice cream and pastries. some europeans i know like to eat durians. they stop at the roadside and eat those durians right at the durian seller's stall.

I neither love nor hate durian as it is not a popular fruit in our place. When it is on season and they are sold in fruit stalls I just don't remember buying it. As I said, it is not a popular fruit here. I have tasted it once and I think I liked the taste but not enough to make me say that I love it.

I like durian too! It's one of my favourite fruit. I think not many people around the world like it especially people from western country. I suppose the major reason is the stinking smell durian have. But it's like an aroma for durian lovers like us.
I have the same problem too, after eating too much of durian. I could even have fever if consume too much of it.
