We could all do with some extra cash and I've been looking into how to make some extra money. I have a spare room in the house and I'm thinking about renting it out, but I'm unsure if I want a stranger in the house. I found this great blog post that gave me some ideas www.aboutloftconversions.co.uk/blogposts/20100315-make-money-from-property.html
I quite like the idea of renting my home out as a movie location, but as my home is quite modest I dont think they would be interested. Renting out the driveway sounds like a great idea, I might give that a go.
So have you ever rented out a room, or part of your house? Did it work out well for you or did you have problems with it? How do you go about finding a lodger?
Any advice or tips will be welcomed.

I think it is a good idea to rent out the house. I don't own a house. So, I don't have an experience of renting out the house. My father rented out our house for some time, which was not the house we lived, but a different one he bought. Later, the people who lived in the rented house, bought that. You can also think about some agriculture if you have space. It is not to sell, but you can cultivate some vegetables to use it for your daily food and save some money.

Good idea about growing some vegetables, home grown food is often better than what you get in the supermarket. I actually quite enjoy gardening and I have quite a few strawberry and tomato plants in the garden. If I had a bigger garden I could grow enough of my own food to reduce my monthly shopping bill by a lot.

I’ve never rented a room from my house because we need all the space we have at the moment but if one has spare room I think it’s a great idea in fact I boarded at my friend’s house a few years ago. We were both going through a bad financial patch and we decided to help each other by me moving into a spare room at her house which gave me very cheap rent and provided her with much needed extra income. We lived in the same house for a year and it worked really well. If you are thinking about it, I would go for it; just be sure to screen all potential tenants really carefully.
