Barehanded or not?

Do you wear gloves when you are gardening? Do you wear them to do particular jobs or when it is very cold?
I tend to prefer not to wear gloves even though I probably should because we have acid soil and it can make your skin dry out. I've given up on the manicured look for my hands, I think I'd rather scrub the dirt off than wear gloves.
I do wear gloves if I'm tackling thorny plants or handling wood with splinters in it. I also sometimes wear gloves in the winter if it is really cold. If it is cold and wet I put on some latex gloves because i've found that it is the damp that makes my hands really cold.

I can't work out in the yard much anymore but when i do i wear gloves. Don't like blisters on my hands & that's what happens if i don't use gloves.

At the start of the season when I rake and dig, I wear gloves
as well to avoid blisters mostly. Other times I seldom wear them
as I like feeling my hands getting into my work I guess.
As always.....

Yes, I always wear thick gloves when I am gardening because my hands are not used to manual work. I didn't always wear them though as I used to keep horses and my hands were toughened up by a lot of the work of carrying food and cleaning out their stables.
Since the horse have gone, many years ago, my hands have become softer and easy cut if I handle wood and other hard materials I may find around the garden. _Derek

Wearing Gloves:
I wear non-latex gloves to clean like toilet and etc ..if you using clorox or strong soap.
I wear warm cotton glove for my hand because when my hands are dry they get cuts really easily,, and burn i get wind bites too. it get really nasty, i can do anything and dont even notice it and it cuts open until i wash my hands it will sting badly.
If i was gardening yes I wear garden gloves..
The only time I do not wear gloves if i am not handling any harmful or chemical that I am allergic to.

I rarely wear gloves when I do my gardening. Somehow I feel it hampers my work and besides it is too warm here in asia to be wearing gloves.
I prefer to literally get my hands to feel the earth and be able to touch my plants. Gloves can sometimes cause branch breakage as I cannot feel the plants when I accidentally sway them.

I wear gloves very seldom when I garden.
I wear them to avoid throns etc and blisters is all.
I dig weeds up using a small spade or my bare hands.
I plant my seeds and seedlings barehanded as well.
I move my mulch around barehanded as well.
Soap and water take care of dirty hands and fingernails etc.
But my hnads get very dry each spring/summer due to this.
being a man makes it okay but I still need my lotion after cleaning my hands etc.
As always.....

i start with good intentions, and go in the garden with gloves on, but i can garden better with the gloves off as i prefer to be hands on and handle the plants and small weeds better with the bare hands.

When gardening I tend to wear gloves because I'm allergic to certain trees in my yard. If I'm cleaning up leaves I use them to prevent blisters on my hands from raking the leaves. I just feel better protected when wearing gloves because I don't want my hands to get dryed out.

I wear gloves only when I remember, which isn't very often. I have small hands and it's hard to find gloves that fit; where the fingers don't fold over. When I'm pruning mesquite trees and cactus, I remember to wear gloves. But it doesn't help much with the thorns from these plants.

I wear gloves when I have to do some outdoor things, espacially in cold weather.I don't like my hands have an ugly appearance. It's a way for you to prevent your hand from the damage brought by rain, insects, pollution, rust and many other things. So, I prefer wearing them even though my hands will become hebetude because of the gloves.

I wear gloves when gardening because if I don't my hands get real dried out from the soil. I also wear gloves when working in the yard to protect my hands. And I also wear gloves when it is bitterly cold in the deep winter time. I am in the Northwestern part of the country and it does get cold here.

I don't like to wear them and I never used to..but since we moved into town we also acquired a neighborhood of stray cats that are under the impression my flowerbeds are their porta potties. When pulling weeds I usually forego the gloves, but if I am actually playing in the dirt, I don the gloves, in case I grab a cat "treat".

I love cleaning our toilets. My room mates said that I am one of the most clean person when I clean our comfort rooms. I usually use gloves in cleaning our comfort rooms at home and everywhere because the muriatic acid burns my skin. As usual, as a nurse I also use gloves on all operations either minor or major operation in the hospital to keep me safe and to keep my client safe too.
