Ok im 27 years old and i have NEVER been on a plane! my mom was always over precautious and planes were OUT of the question. Even know she is telling me that i cannot go on a plane LOL! But next month my husband and are FIANLLY booked our very first real vacation/ honeymoon and we are going to vegas. Its booked all paid for so theres no turning back now! I am not afraid of flying i am not closephobic i just need air, i always have to have a wiondow cracked, i need to feel i can spread out and i fear that i will feel chlostrabphobic on the plane for i cannot open a window. My husband has told me stories about tuberlance and he always seems to describe even the least scariest situations as very scary. Im also a bigger person and i was reading up on something in a people magizine about a guy that bought 2 tickets because he wouldnt fit or he got kicked off the plane for being ver weight.. somthing along those lines.. Im not that big but i am on the heavier side, so i am worried that i wont fit! im worried that i may get sick do to the no air circulation. From your expierences, what are planes really like ? what is the worst thing i have to worry about and i dont mean it crashing i mean things that happen all the time that may freak me out? any input on how to keep calm would be greatly appreciated. Who knows it might be awesome! i get the same way with rollercoasters i freak the whole time in line i get there im worried and then its awesome, and then i start freaking again next line.. etc

I've already made dozens of flights and what I don't like at all is the landing and all the noise small planes do. Turbulence happens rarely, but what really scares me is to fly when there's bad weather, like a strong wind and heavy rain: although it's safe I still always wonder how such a metallic tube is able to fly!

I suggest that you arrive at the airport with plenty of time to spare. You will go though check in and airport security. I suggest you think about where on the plane you would be happy to sit like by a window or next to the aisle. Personally I prefer a window seat so I can see the view on take off and landing. You might want to read during the flight so you could take a book and a magazine. Air sick is not all that common unless there is lots of turbulence. I have been on many flights and only on my flight from London to Sfax via Tunis was it very turbulent. It resulted in me being sick and getting severe ear pain. I flew on planes for ten years before I got a pair of ear planes. Then I have been able to fly on planes without getting any ear pain. When a plane lands it runs fast along the runaway and the engine makes a loud noise. I am sure you will be fine on the flight. I have had some lovely plane trips in my life so far. I had fun seeing the pyramids coming back from Kenya. I saw the opera house and the harbor bridge before landing in Sydney. I suggest deep breaths to calm you and once you get through security I will say it would be lovely if you could buy a bottle of water to drink. Happy traveling.

It's interesting that you have created this discussion!. This reminds me of what I have been missing for all these years! I haven't been on a plane for many years now but I do remember clearly what my last flight experience was like! Flying is very exciting and I would say the best parts are the taking off and the landing as you really feel the g force as it were. There's tremendous speed as you start to travel down the runway prior to taking off. I think the airline crew are generally very nice, the stewards and stewardesses and so forth. This will be a very exciting time for you and all I can say is, good luck on your honeymoon and enjoy the flight, you will never forget the experience I'm sure. This gets me thinking that I want to fly somewhere again even if it's somewhere cheap I just want to get flying again. Andrew

I do remember my first right of the airplane 16 year ago. I don't blame you get nervouse but if you want to get calm just read a book or listen to music when it take off or have some lollies to eat, or even doing the crossword/sudoku anything that can take your mind off. You will do fine! No need to worry! Or you can tell your husband how you feel about it. He may be able to comfort you when you are on board.

3 things that I have experienced from an airplane ride which I would like to share with you are:
1) the ear pressure when taking off and reaching ground
2) air sickness
3) unable to get to sleep/past the time during the flight
So I bought the meds which really puts me to sleep during those times which I will have problem going through so I would advice you to get the meds. And never try to board the plane with a full stomach because you never know if the restroom is available.
If it's short journey, then you might want to get something to pass time with, but I won't recommend reading because I am not such if you will get sufficient light and I don't really enjoy the light (on top of my seat) shining above my head thus I went for some listening.

hi beutfulmama
The last time we traveled by plane, we really had a bad experienced of TURBULANCE and yes it was the scariest moment of our life.. My husband's thought that, that would be our END. but, thanks God it's just a turbulance.
I remember the first time I ride a plane when I was 20.. and yes, like you I was also excited at the same time afraid, there are lots of things going on my mind.
But this I tell you...Just always think positive and always pray.
Have a joyful trip to both of you

Well, you now, I think I read somewhere that the chance of you dying on a plane crash, is actually the same as you dying on a car crash. So I guess, there's nothing really to it. The actual plane ride is not really spectacular or anything, maybe during the landing and the take off you'll feel something but while you're on the air, unless there's turbulence, you won't really feel anything. I hope you'll enjoy your first plane ride.

I was so excited when i had my first airplane ride. But it turned out that it's just like riding a bus really. Just like a bus, you can feel the vibration of the engine in the air. It is best to ride a plane on clear skies to avoid turbulence. Turbulence is a nightmare when you encounter them. The plane would literally fell a few feet down and it's not a nice feeling. Turbulence is the main reason why my wife would choose to ride a bus for a couple of hours straight rather than experience what she went through on her first airplane ride.

I've been on planes countless times, and I'm a little claustrophobic, so don't worry too much about that, you probably won't feel that compressed .
About your size, I think you should ask the flight company if they have some restraint about people's weight. My weight is normal, so I have never had to ask about that and I'm afraid I can't help regarding that matter
Don't be afraid, lots of planes fly everydays and people reach their destinies

I don't have experience in planes either but if I were you I would think about the honeymoon more than the trip itself. That way I would not worry so much about the plane, turbulence or whatever. This will smooth things out about your worries. Happy trip you two!

Good thing for you, your first experience in taking airplane you have your husband with you. Unlike me, I was also 27yrs old at that time, I take the plane by myself and its my first time to do it. I was sitting near the window, then I am all by myself. I was so nervous just like you but I need to pretend and look that I am ok. My mother told me a lot of tips like I need to chew a gum so that I wont experience any earache. I follow that one, what I am afraid of is that I might throw up. Good thing I didn't notice that one, the flight is so long and I could not longer stand to it. I was so thankful that I am near in the comfort room and I can always go there when I feel something. Thats my experience when I have my first flight.

Do not sleep while you're in the plane. Cherish every moment on your first time experience. Don't be nervous, because I am sure everything will be okay. Besides the flight attendants are willing to provide your needs. ;)

I've never traveled through plane. I really envy you because your going. No one's going to stop if I go missing. It's just that I don't have enough resources. I just want to know what's the feeling of being on top of everybody., I just love it so much.
I wish I could to, in the near future.

Turbulance is scary. I remeber flying to Vegas and i thought our plane was going to crash b/c it was so bad. Just be prepared for it in Vegas b/c I here the turbulance is always bad b/c the air is too thin or something. I forgot but always bad turbulance there so when it happens just know it's always bad there but it's normal and you should be fine. I always end up fallin asleep so it's never too bad. I'm there before I know it. You'll be fine with the seating so don't worry about that. Just remember to go to the bathroom before you get on the plane b/c I hate the bathroom there and if you're not on an aisle seat you have to jump over other people to get to the aisle. Like theater seats. Plus it takes awhile before you can actually get out of your seat so if your nervous you might pee your pants! LOL!
Good Luck and I hope it's not too long of a flight!
