I agree, they are talented, work hard to reach high performance, work to remain on top, but somehow is not to much to pay so many millions for running after a ball?
Do you think they really deserve such high salaries, when around the globe so many people dies of hunger ?

Any financial reward for a talent should not always come in the form of unquenchable numbers of money; footballers are skilled strikers and defenders and have been around ever since the sinking of the Titanic in 1914 in England at least (don't know about elsewhere) yet, there is quite a bit of skill involved in the sport, though it has changed dramatically over the last twenty years in which the Football itself, was made of heavier material from animal hide. This created the kind of challenge to maneuver it in a far less simple way and why football in the past was a different kind of sport from today.
Players now are kicking an air-bag by comparison to yesteryear days, it is far less of a skill when it is light, air dynamic and has no stability. Specific training methods are involved in modern football, but if you saw today's match between Germany and England, you wouldn't think for a second that England players have a clue what they are doing when their performance was so bad!
Yes, I do agree that they are well over-paid and more so because their level of skills do not match the efforts they put into the game: they become unmotivated and lose sight of what their fans expectations are even though it is clear that they struggle with the air-ball itself.
As for third world hunger, our own countries contribute an awful amount to help these starving people, but their economy and culture is so different, there is only so much that can be done to give Aid when many leaders line their own pockets with money sent from the States and England and why there is so much controversy on this subject itself.
What footballers get paid, could be spent on building new youth schemes in poor parts of Britain and America that also suffer from poverty, but the reason as to why these sportsmen get paid so much is because the more rich and famous they are, the more revenue the country makes out of the sales on football tickets and the novelty merchandise, it all goes back into the the same pot, which is senseless but then nothing in this life makes any sense anymore.

I believe that if an athlete, actor, or entertainer can generate an amount greater than his salary by his or her participation in that activity, then they are worth every penny they earn.

I don't think they really should earn the prize of a luxurious car in a single week... They have some training, they have 2 or maximum 3 events a week... and BOOM they have a Mercedes... If I would work my whole life I can't earn that much money according to my daily needs have to be paid, etc... so I don't think they worth their salary! But footbal and other sports shouldn't be compared to the starving of children around the world! They are very different things! Not to mention, that footbal clubs and players too are donating every year the charithy groups!
Have a nice day!

Well, they work hard for that. Do you think it is easy getting thrown all over the place for a ball? Sometimes, they get hit so hard that they can no longer play anymore.

I know that athletes give up their chances at education and a job (or at least put it on hold for the most apr) in persuit of a career in sprts but that is really no excuse to earn so much. I can undestand maybe, MAYBE, half og their current salaries but what they ahev right now is outragous. The money should be put to better use in the local home counties and internationally to help the world or the ticket prices should be lowered (as the prices are far to high).

Hi, Ice!
Frankly, I think those huge pay checks are rather obscene. For the most part, they've increased the cost of attending a game until most families can't afford to go.That's really a shame, since a day at a sporting event used to be one of the greatest family outings...

I have debated this a few times before online and with people I know and I feel that As they are the top people in their sport they should be paid the big bucks. You compare a top Premiership player for instance with a lower league player and you will see the difference in quality and level of play. The players are the main reason why the club is successful in the top league so they deserve to be rewarded for their performance.
