Moomin, where's your collar? Does you cat get out of his collar by himself?

Moomin was out all last night, didn't want to come in at bedtime and finally ambled into the kitchen around lunchtime today looking very pleased with himself. I can only assume that he found somewhere warm and dry to sleep overnight and that he had enjoyed himself stretched out in the sunshine this morning. He demanded his food and, as I put his bowl down for him, I realised that something was amiss.
His new purple collar and bell were missing.
I had bought the purple collar and bell only six weeks ago, one with a clip catch on it so it was safe for him to wear and it had a fairly loud bell so I could hear him sneaking up on the wildlife outside (and so I could hear him sneaking upstairs too) but there was no sign of his new collar anywhere.
This makes me wonder, while he was out overnight, did someone decide to try and adopt him and remove the collar or, more likely, did he manage to get the clip catch undone by himself and he has abandoned his new collar somewhere in the undergrowth in the back garden.
Either way it means I will have to go and get him yet another new collar and bell, perhaps this time with a better clip catch. But, can your cat get out of his collar?

might have done the back foot kick out.
one of my first cats always got it off that way-in the days before breakaway collars.
my current cats do not wear them, but i've been debating getting some for all the girls.

You could well be right hun, he's quite dextrous for a feline, he's probably laughing at me right now thinking he can escape from any collar with a swift kick

my dad had bought the cat in question a nice beaded, belled collar the one time.
it was nice looking.i came home from work, bead here, bead there...obviously the cat didn't share his sense of fashion.

LOL I was looking at some of the collars in the store, and some of them were all pink and shiny, not quite Moomin's style I think

Tuti and Ping have worn collars for years, but Nef can shed one in no time flat!
Oliver lost his after wearing it for over a year.
With 5 black cats and 3 buff ones, we have to be able to tell a black cat and a buff one apart from the rest.
Of course, its harder to tell Nef from Scamp, but at least we can tell that's Tuti at a glance.

Banjo is sometimes reluctant to come inside in the mornings after being outside for the night. A couple of weeks ago I went to grab him, he ducked and I hooked his flea collar which broke. It was a 5 month one and only a few weeks old. I hate that. The replacement one won't sit right for some reason.
He was being feisty this morning even though he came in by himself. He attacked baby Roxy a few times and made her cry. Roxy the terrier puppy adores Banjo his new, big, cat brother and Banjo is being a bit mean to lil Roxy.

Aw naughty Banjo, shouldn't pick on Roxy like that. I have noticed that some collars don't seem to fit very well do they. fortunately the new one I bought for Moomin seems to fit him fine and the clip catch sits comfortably.

Oh my goodness! What a little stinker. I don't have a cat as I am wickedly allergic, but I do have a shihtzu and getting collars for her is VERY hard. She is too big for the petite/extra small but she is too big for the regular small, and I'm sure if she tried she could get her collar off. She has managed to keep her collar on though but she's usually indoors too! Moomin could have snagged it on anything really I'm not sure it's hard to say!

LOL I'm pretty sure he may well have done the back kick and managed to flip it off somewhere. I bought him a new collar yesterday, it has a clip catch for safety but I have no doubt he will manage to lose this one soon enough.

My old cat (who passed away about a year ago now) used to do that ALL the time.
He was 75% an outdoor cat, can we tried to keep a collar on him so he would have his ID tag and vaccinations tag on all the time.
When we'd put a collar on him, he'd show no signs of discomfort, but when we went out, he'd come back with it gone. I swear, we went through 20-odd collars (some of them were so cute!) throughout his life time. A couple times, we found the discarded collar in our alley or in the yard, so we knew he was the one taking them off.
I suspect your cat is doing the same.
btw, is "Moomin" named after that one hippopatamus-like cartoon?

LOL it's amazing how they manage to get rid of their collars isn't it. I might send my partner down to the bottom of the garden where all the shrubs are, and see if he can find Moomin's collar snagged down there.
Well done hun, you're right about Moomin's name. When he adopted us we were trying to figure a name that suited him and my partner said his shape reminded him of the Moomin cartoon.

My cat is an indoor only kitty, so he does not wear a collar. A couple times when I took him in the car especially when he was a very little kitty he would almost get his harness undone in the car. It was interesting how Tigger being buckled in the passenger seat he could nearly get the harness off. The strangest was the time that somehow got the harness all flipped around to the point that it was on backwards. Actually, he was sitting on top of the receptionist desk at the vets when I said to my kitty what did you do to your outfit referring to his harness. The receptionist did not realize I meant the kitty not her.

I know what you mean it is not easy to dress a kitty. They try to play with the harenss as you are trying to put it on them. It is so funny. I'm glad they finally have the clip-ons because you can get it on them pretty quickly. As you said, it is amazing just how much our cutie little kitties can wiggle about or as I sometimes call him squirmy pants. On top of that my kitty has always had a short attention span it is like he gives you 30 seconds and that's about it. Now that he is a little older I sometimes get a fully minute at once.

We have a shrubs and trees area near the bottom of the garden and often find cat collars caught up in the branches.
My cat has a stiff collar with an elastic section just in case but has never lost one yet although he seems very good at losing the name tags and we don't bother to put one on any more(tag not collar).
There was an advert on a tree in our road, someones cat was missing and I thought ,that looks like splodge cat(nick named by us) so I rang the number on the poster and said ,she is in the bottom of our garden but her collar is gone.
The owner said that there was a magnet on the collar to let her in through her cat flap so she had got herself locked out by losing her collar.
She went home the minute she was called.

I've just gone and got him yet another new collar, this one has the elastic section in it so it's safe for him, but I just hope it will be a while before he manages to lose this one.

Cats are very clever when it comes to collars. Our old cat always kept his collar on and it didn't bother him at all but our younger cat is always losing hers. We like to keep collars on the cats so that people know they aren't strays and are loved by someone. Young cat is very wily. When my husband was fixing a new bath he found four of her collars behind the panel! She had been crawling into the space and removing her collar. Little monkey!
