I don't like my first name that much. My name is Marcela and in this modern age, it really sounds antique. There is a heroine who has the same first name as I do. and so, they would attach my name to the heroine's last name. I remembered when I was still in grade school and high school, my classmates would smirk whenever teachers would call my name. If I were to choose my name then, I would name myself from an adjective or a noun. I can't decide what name yet. How about you?

Marcela, goddess of the heavens, what a beautiful name. People with this name are "good with money and are able to make a balance between the physical and spiritual world." I wish my parents have named me Mimosa. I could have very well changed my name, but why waste hard-earned money for that. So, I use Mimosa as a nickname. Have a lovely day, Marcela.

I am so sorry for you, but I have the same feeling with you. My first name is Xiguo, Xi means small or little. Because I have a big brother, whose name contains the character 'guo', my name name is given by adding 'Xi' before 'guo'. so I will always be a little boy due to my name. Especially when other people asking what meaning my name is, I can't how to answer it. Actually, I would like my name is 'Guoqiang' or 'Guowei', because both 'qiang' and 'wei' mean very man and strong in my hometown.

Are you Vietnamese? or Chinese perhaps. I watched a Taiwanese drama series just recently. and the main character's name is Xi Qiang. The title of the drama is It Started with a Kiss. You know what, if you are in our country, it sounds beautiful.I like the pronunciation of your name. I like your name actually. Don't get upset with the meaning.LOL.

LOL. I think Marcela is better than my first name though. My first name is Criselda. I don't have any idea why my parents chose that name. Like yours it's like antique or something like that, sometimes, it's even connected to one sexy star. Hehehehe. If I could choose a name, I think I would chose something nicer and more common. Hahahha.

I think Marcela is a lovely name and very unique. I have a common first name and wish my parents had chosen something more special. You can change your name if you like but I chose never to do that. I would have preferred to have been given my mom's first name which is what my dad wanted but my mom didn't want that for some reason. So while it bothered me some when I was young, it doesn't bother me at all now. Take care!

Thanks for that compliment. I'm way too pessimistic about myself. Even my name counts.

I'm one of those people that have phrases that I live my life by. And here's one that applies for you. Never put yourself down, there are enough people in the world who will. Kinda strange but it reminds me that I should love myself first and be kind to myself cause sometimes the world is a hard place! And just think how more memorable you are to people if your name is unusual and special!

As someone named after my dad's high school girlfriend (how my mom let him get away with this, I will never know), I have thought about changing my name. I even considered using my middle name instead. But then I started liking the meaning of my name (helper of mankind) and realized my name fit me. I think Marcela sounds exotic and beautiful and I'm sorry some silly kids made fun of it. I had the same problem with my last name.

oh, helper of mankind? can i guess your name? is it samaritan?hehe

My real name should have been ELEANOR but something happened. There was this nurse who spelled my name incorrect at the hospital's documents or whatsoever. the nurse putted ELEONOR instead of ELEANOR. It's really annoying. I prefer my original name.

What a negligence made by the nurse. But, it still sounds good, you know.hehe

My aunt's friend is also Marcela, and we call her Mars. I think Marcela is a nice name. For me, I'd love to be named Josephine, after my grandmother, or Sofia.

Hi Marcela, before any name that's ends with letter A sounds old but now a days its a spanish name. If I'm given a chance to chance my name it would be Grace. I like the name and it sounds so great.

I concur. Names ending with A sound too Spanish. Grace is a beautiful name.

Hello Marcela :) I don't think you have a bad name. There are others who have worst name as yours. Honestly I know some who I pity so much because of their christened names. In fact your name is one of the names I would like to have as my own. I love the name Marcella because it sounds foreign and it's the same name of my favorite character in the story book I used to read when I was young: Raggedy Ann and Andy :) Marcella was the girl who owns those two ragged dolls and she's a cute and very kind girl that's why I love her. Anyway regarding your question; well I admire some names like yours and those princesses names like Dianna and Margarette, but I would never trade my name for other names. My full name is Cecille Carmela, and my mom chose that name for deeper reasons. "Cecille" came from the name of my patron saint St. Cecilia whose feast day falls under my birthday November 22, and "Carmela" came from the name where my mom used to pray Our Lady of Mount Carmen. Carmen also means "garden". :) According to superstition, naming your child from a saint or from a church means that she will grow up saintly; and so I have come to believe I have those two names because my mom clearly wants the best for me. St. Cecilia by the way is a patron saint of musicians and true enough, I am an artistically-inclined person who appreciates both nature and beauty. My names say many things about me so I am so much proud of my name ;) I think your name has a meaning too.. so don't be ashamed of that. Your name might sound classic, but honestly you have an elegant name ;))

Hi marcela, I am one of those who is always asking dad of all the names why this lousy name for a person like me. :) He just smiles. :) I would have preferred something like Hemangini, or Tejaswini. Even Anandi would be good. I wanted my name to end with "ee" at the end. Now everybody calls me vandoo - it sounds terrible.

hmm. I have a friend whose name is similar to yours. Her name is Vanda. But I like that name. It's unique in our country, eh.

On the first day at school I met many girls and for the first time I got to hear so many different names. I came home and sobbed and told my father what I had discovered and that I would want my name changed!! I wanted them to change my name to Flossy - ugh!!- now when I think of it!!
• Philippines

Flossy sounds cool. Yeah. We have the same sentiment way back in grade school and high school. Hearing those other girls' beautiful and modern names upset me so.

O cmon! I love the name better than modern names. Marcela is one such classy, antique and sophisticated name. I love names such as these- Marcela, Marelisa, Dayana, Miguel, Pablo, Miguelito, Juan, Manuel. You may say I'm too outdated but hey! These names are just pronunciation-friendly and easy to remember. At the same time, sophistication is all over. But it depends on the person really.

Really? you find them classy? Thanks for that compliment. I really thought everyone doesn't like my name. That's why i hate it too. I'm having second thoughts eh..hehe

I like my name, Peggy. I'm glad my parents didn't let the hospital talk them out of the name, because it is a nickname for Margaret. AND I dislike Margaret, Maggie, Magpie, etc. I was named after Peggy Lee, the singer.

I don't like my name either; you see of 11 brood I am the only one who have a very obsolete name. Adding more injury my mom didn't even made it quite sounds good. I hope instead of Merced, how about Mercedes so I could be mistaken as the famous Mercedes Benz. Well I couldn't do something about it. I just wish I'll become rich so I could change my name. If I were to choose my name, I'll prefer to called Summer Breeze, the song from my favorite band, Seals and Crofts.

Mercedes? are you a female or male? I actually like your name, especially when it's pronounced in a slang way. Don't change your name. It's nice,eh.
