Playstation 1, Rant.

I'm a total gamer, and have been ever since I was a little girl. Money is tight around here, and I can't afford to get a PS2, and I won't be able to afford a PS3 until they come out with a PS100. But I still have my playstation (ps1) console, and I love it! I adore my playstation, and all of my Final Fantasy and other RPG games I can indulge in with it. But I also have a major rant... I live in a small town in Virginia, and absolutely nobody around here sells PS1 merchandise anymore. No consoles, video games, controllers, memory cards, etc. The two major stores we have in my town is a Super Wal-Mart, and a Gamestop. At one point, they both used to sell PS1 merchandise. Then one day, it just disappeared, vanished from the shelves. A few weeks ago, my younger brother and I were in our Gamestop. And I just happened to have the chance to meet the owner of the Gamestop. Don't ask me what he was doing in our little stick of a town, but he was. So, I decided to ask him why he no longer sold ps1 stuff, why nobody around here did. And he told me that he just couldn't afford to sell ps1 merchandise, that he had sent all of his ps1 merchandise up to Maryland where they still in his words: "Got off on that kind of stuff. " He said the only chance I had in finding PS1 merchandise is going to a bigger city, and pray they still can afford to sell it- or buy online. I don't mind buying online, though I really hate the wait. But I just don't think it's fair for them to have completely wiped out all of the merchandise around here. Surely I'm not the ONLY PS1 fan still in my hometown. It's just getting harder, and harder... the more advanced the systems become the harder it is to keep a hold on the older stuff. I know it makes sense economically, but that doesn't mean I have to enjoy it.

I live in a small town too. I enjoy PS1 as well. Usually to get a hold of the older games and parts for your PS1, try pawnshops. I have found lots of games as well as whole system is cheap.

Would you believe, my town is so small... we don't even have a pawn shop? The closest one is a half an hour drive from here. Everything is half an hour drive from here. So far, the only luck I've had with finding stuff for my PS1 is through online purchases. u.u I even tried going through our thrift stores, yard sales. Nothing. I guess everyone is clinging to their PS1 just as tightly as I am my own around here? lol

Are you against ordering online? You can find some great deals on games at amazon.com. Also, maybe you could try craigslist or go to yahoo groups and look up the closest freecycle or yard sale group there. Many parents are upgrading their systems and sell their old ones really cheap! It is possible that you do not have any of these locally due to being in a small town but it can't hurt to try. Plus you could always join the ones that are the closest to you and pay a small fee for having people ship items to you.

No, I'm not against ordering online. Like I said in my original discussion I do it whenever I have the money to. It's not bad, I'm a bit impatient and hate the long, grueling wait, but it's better than not having access to anything at all. The kicker is the Shipping and Handling costs when buying online, so I always try to collect up money until I have thirty dollars to spend, so that the shipping and handling is free. I have checked into some of those other options and found nothing, but haven't given up hope. Thanks so much for replying with your suggestions.

always remember that when ordering media (video games, books, movies) that the shipping is supposed to be cheap. Look it up on the usps site(i think it is)- media mail shipping costs are like $3. Be careful on ebay- they gouge people with shipping charges. Sorry about asking about ordering online- i missed that part...I tend to skim when I read.

I know money is tight, but couldn't you buy a used Playstation 2 for cheap now that the Playstation 3 is out?

Yeah, but then you have to buy all new games, don't you? That's the problem we have. We are also still on PS1 (I don't game, but my dh and my stepson do). I would get a new system, but then you add on memory cards and controllers and games, and you are looking at $300-$500 easy. I just can't justify that for video games.

PS1.....I actually got into Final Fantasy on this system, and on PS2 at the same time....Final Fantasy IX and X were my starting ones, and remain my favorites to this day. In all honesty I don't really play any old PS1 games. But I have great memories of them. Final Fantasy VII, VIII, and IX will always be in my mind, and I own VIII and IX. Sadly, I don't own VII, but I'm working on it. -.- Also, despite the fact that I don't play it anymore, I also own a PS1 console. It makes me happy. ^^ Though it is kind of ugly, but it still works! Yup yup.
Also, randomly, another game I remember is Monster Rancher 2. o_o I had some great fun with that game....Uh huhs. And Digimon World. That was seriously like one of the best games ever. It's just sad that it's so slow that it irritates me now....But yeah.

Do you have the original big, chunky, PS1 or the "newer" slim, tiny, PS1? We used to have the big one, but it broke, then we got a little one, and that one broke, it was my brothers. So then I bought my own PS1, and it's one of the smaller, second'ish models they came out with, eight years later, I still have it, though the door does snag a bit. It's still my precious PS1, and I'd be so sad and miserable without it. =-(

I have the big old hunkin' monster of a PS1. I always did like it better. Though not in the best condition ever, it still works well. It's just a bit shoddy on the outside. I actually would like to get rid of the thing, but I want to get some money from it, as of that they don't make them anymore. But with it's not so perfect exterior condition, I don't think I'd be able to.
