Try the south beach diet phase one. It goes for 2 weeks and you cut out almost all carbs, but it really works to remove excess fat, especially from your midsection. Make sure to read up on it first (there are many books available, as well as online resources) and speak to your doctor if you have any health problems that might be affected by dieting.
