My situation at this point of time is shaky. I just graduated last school year and I still don't have a job yet. I don't like my profession. My dream job is to work in a company and do office work. I am pressured by my family to get a job ASAP.My sister has also warned me that if I don't get a job this month, the new set of graduates will dominate the career world which increases the number of my competitors.Oh help me. What should I do? I want to have a job.

I would get help preparing a professional resume and cover letter. Then I would post that resume/cover letter online, everywhere I could. I would take my resume/cover letter to various companies for whom I was interested in working. I would fill out applications everywhere for part-time, full-time, seasonal, etc. work, just to get my foot in the door. I've been applying for part-time work and have been offered two jobs. I don't need to work (I'm retired with a pension); I just wanted something to do to fill up my time -- and because the part-time work wasn't "meaningful" enough, I turned both of them down. But if I'd really needed the work, I would have accepted one of the two. What I'm saying is there's work out there. They may not be what you want, but if you need a job...the work's there.

I am also doing it right now. I have applied to lots of companies online. Actually, I turned down a job because I thought it was too low for my profile. Now I'm suffering again. What a choosy job seeker I am. I hope I get another (last) chance. huhu

I guess you can give yourself like a time limit as to when you would wait for that dream job. You can give it a month or two and if there's really nothing right now, then I guess you can start looking for something else. When I graduated, I started working right away. I only rested for three weeks. My dream job back then was to travel and write but I know with my situation back then, I won't be able to do it. I ended up working in a call center and I enjoyed it. It is very fulfilling to receive your paycheck. You can always earn enough money and do what you really like. So after more than three years, I quit the call center. I am working from home now and trying to improve my writing and at the same time work from home. Good luck! I hope you find what you're looking for.

That's what I'm doing now. I set a limit as to when I'm going to stop applying for my dream job. This end of March or early April will probably be my last chance. If I still wouldn't be lucky, I guess I have no other choice but to use my course. But, it would be a torture for my part. hmm. Yours is really inspiring.Maybe I should resort to online business,eh.Can you pm me to your online business?hehe. Thanks for inspiring.mwah

What is your course anyway? I say your sister is quite right, it's really hard to get a job during march to may cause you have new graduates to compete with. There are a lot of jobs available specially office work. When I was unemployed, what I did was I applied online, applying to all those that I am interested in, even for openings that I don't have enough experience for, cause sometimes, it only takes a good personality to land a job, experienced can be gained, but personality is already there, and a lot of interviewers take personality more seriously rather than the grades and the school and experience.

My course is education. And I really don't like to tach.Altough other people find it noble but it just burdens me. The tasks are all heavy. I have applied online again after I turned down a job. I hope I get a call from any companies I've applied for, this March or April.

I do understand how your sister feels, though not the warning sign. When I graduated before right after college, I was told not to be choosy with the kind of job I was applying for. I guess it was just right because times are hard and one need not be choosy. You can just rise from the ranks from there. It is better that you get the experience from there and learned from it.

Hi gambamarcela!
Firstly, you must understand the global economy was just recovered and the unemployment rate is still very high. There are lots of people who have not found a job yet.So you are just one of them. You needn't feel shameful about this.More importantly, you should talk to your parents.Let them know the situation. As you said you don't like your profession,i can tell you people alway change.Something you don't like now may becomes your favorite, who knows? If you don't mind, you can embrace your profession now. After years of conditioning, maybe you will like it.
Besides, you should seriously think of your future and your career, making a probable balance between your interest and the reality.
Remember, never lose your hope!Persist your dream until success.God will see what you have done.I sincerely hope that you can get your first job as soon as possible.Happy myLotting!

Thank you so much for the concern. I really appreciate it. If I would embrace my profession, I really don't know what will happen. All I can think of is unhappiness and stress.

Get a list of the largest companies in the USA. Go apply in person starting with the ones you like the best.Don't just fill out the paperwork. Try to look the boss in the eyes. It's a matter of numbers. Do what it takes. You can get a job. Worse comes to worse, offer to work free for a week so they can try you out.SELL YOURSELF!!!Tell them how you will make them money.

You can have a job that you really want if you will just go out and find for one. I am also a lot like your situation, were I am forced to study a course which I disnt like, but when I graduated, I look for a work in a corporate world, and here I am doing a great job. The option is always depends on you, if you doesn't want a work you could always have a second option.

Hi, I feel like we are in the same situation and I hope we can get over this current bottleneck soon.
I can't advice you much other than keep on sending your resumes because it takes an opportunity before you are given the chance.
I have been trying to convince myself to work in what I studied and pay is also a factor so I am struggling to look for position which requires some knowledge of what I learn with majority on admins stuffs. Maybe you might want to consider such type of job so you won't let the stuffs that you learnt over the years go into the drain.

You're not alone Mars, there are sooooooo many people who need jobs. At this point, you may just have to take whatever is available, gain experience, then later on, you can start looking for the job of your dreams.
Presently, the country owes the world bank 7 trillion dollars. Many companies are in trouble. To give one example, Washington Mutual Bank had to sell to JPMorgan Chase.
I suggest you go to a Temporary Agency, like Temps Unlimited. They have jobs where you can work as a temp, but if you are good at what you do, the company pays the agency a certain amount in order to be able to hire you as a permanent employee.
Because of the recession (actually it's a depression but which the government refuses to accept), the unemployment rate has increased to an astounding level. But, mind you, this is not Obama's fault, but a problem that he inherited from you know who. But the thing is, if you do an outstanding job, you won't have to worry. More importantly, have faith in God, my friend.
The very best of luck to you.

It takes a lot of trials to finally get what you want marcela. This is something alarming though for your part. You have to make a move! Apply all the companies where you want to work to. I'm sure there must be one that will accept you even in a lower position. After that, accept the work and do your best. Soon, you'll get promoted by working hard. With this, you will be able to achieve your dream job. It's a long process you know. If you won't start this early, there comes the extension of time from which you can possibly reach your dreams.

good day.
Just try and try, I know you will find a job and atleast you are trying to find one. But i prefer you gain more experience and start at the bottom regardless if it is not your dream job. Then from there you can take it step by step.
Good luck and God bless

government work would be my last resort. I still need to pass a legibility exam before I could apply for government offices/agencies. Right now, I can't make it since I have no money for the exam.I am also asking my friend if there are vacancies in thier company. And thank you so much for your help. I appreciate it.

First off you graduated from high school? Or College? If it was high school look into going to college or a training school. Some office degrees in as little as 2 years. I agree with them if you keep waiting for the dream job you might not land a job at all. I am a believer of doing something that you love but sometimes you have to start out at the bottom and work you way up to that job. Just put in apps and if you find something take the job. You can always put in apps while working there also. You need some job history in order for some of the bigger and better businesses to hire you. Some jobs wont hire someone fresh out of high school with no work history. Its hard for them to know if you are a hard worker, if you come to work on time and daily and if your responsible worker. So I just say keep your head up and keep searching! GOOD LUCK with it!

You should start working on your CV. even if you don't have any working experience, you can include all your education and skills, even those that seem minor and unimportant. You can always go to your college and see if they have a career office. My college has one and companies always send their job openings there. You can ask them to mail you whenever there is something available. Or you can even ask if there is a position in your college. Also start buying newspapers/magazines with classifieds, and email or call local companies. A lot of companies might not want to hire you straight away but instead ask you to work as an intern. Do not say no. Its the first step to getting experience and getting employed. Hope this helps you find a job soon.

Just out of curiosity, are you a nursing graduate too? I am, and I have graduated in the year 2008 but still have no hospital work yet. But it's because I turned to other stuff. After taking the licensure exam and waiting for the license, I took an office job. After six months, I started some tranings. Then after that, I was stumped if I will apply to a hospital or take the international exam. I asked others about it. My teacher and others mention that it would be difficult to get work because as time goes by, new graduates arise. But I think the international exam would be better because it is more of a long term goal. I'm thankful my family does not urge and does not force me to get a job. I firmly believe that even though it's difficult to get a job, it's sometimes accompanied by luck.
In my opinion, do what best suits your long term goal and not the short term goal.

Hi marcela, you didnt mention your profession! Anyway, here is what I can suggest. You could do some MBA - or other professional courses online while continuing your not so likeable profession for a while. Many people who are serious about their lives do that. So if you are really keen for office work, put in that extra effort. You are young enough. So it is very much possible at this stage. Later on, when kids and responsibilities come, it becomes very difficult. All the best.

We have company secretary's profession, cost accountants profession, and the like out here which can be done through postal coaching. We do need to attend some classes but that you can manage I think. Just decide on which line you want to enter. :) Hope you find something to your liking. :)

hello! well, you ca always wait for a month to see if you can find some office work, but if you can't better start something no matter what, because sometimes it is really hard to find a job as a office worker without having any experience with it. so if you can find some work in a company, but not an office one, take it, and with the time you will slowly go up it is better than staying at home :) and having no money, right?
