are long lenghty replies w/o sense? or short ones full of sense?

I am a week old here, and the first days i spent reading and enjoying comments & discussions. I noticed that a few can write long and lengthy messages that i have to change my sitting position many times before i finish reading it. Most writes only a few sentences. As to what i noticed, the long messages contain mostly decorations and unrelevant to the topic/discussion. The short 4-5 sentneces or lesser are more accurate and full of detail.
Now after a week in myLot, i avoid to read lengthy messages because it most likely be full of unrelated ideas. Sometimes it reads almost like one's biography.
How about you, do you read to the full text long long replies (most times no longer relevant to the topic)? or you prefer the short accurate ones?
What if this long reply is directed to you? will you answer it? or ignore it?

It all depends on that how it looks and how was written. I mean, sometimes there are too long replies without any meaning, and sometimes we can find short replies with a 'full of sense'. And sometimes the answers gived by the other members are too longer, but in the same time they are very interesting to read.
I like to read all of the replies and to see how others are thinking.

That is correct. There are also long replies which are interesting. As long as it stays in topic, right?

Yes, Tiger, but I am afraid that many peoples are trying to write very long posts to take more cents, and when they don't have something to add, then they 'run out' of the topic and keep posting.

I sometimes write short message other times long messages, it only depends on what I'm trying to express, I sometimes find this site quite nice to tell secrets or things about me that I wouldn't tell real life friends, and so sometimes I can write quite lengthy messages, I'm not forcing anyone to read of course, and I'm not bothered by long or short messages, unless it's total nonsense !

I prefer discussions that make sense and stay on topic. When a discussion rambles on and on it is hard to know how to respond since there is no clear idea or question presented. Sometimes it is so bad I feel like telling them to write a book that nobody will read. For the record, I also have a problem with people that ride a hobbyhorse in their discussions, and there are many of those.

I usually prefer ones that are longer.
It might be because I like reading blogs, and the longer posts that ramble about things remind me of blog entries. Also, I might can find some comment to make on a longer post that I cant find anything at all to say on one that is only 4 or 5 lines long.

i think there is enough writing is needed to explain any thing. and in my view if you are online you must express your self in minimum words as it is very rare here that people go thorough the whole text and your effort could go waste. even in real life it is a good practice to express ourself in minimum words.

So it is like : to cut a long story short. That is awesome!

Me too,I like a short response with 4 or 5 sentences, it's easier to get the point. But the one who writes a long long response is really conscientious and I think he wants you to read it carefully,so we should respect their replies.Answering it or no,it's your choice, just decide it by yourself.

Well mylot guidelines tells us that at least we should not a one liner post. I think that is the reason why some posters respond longer than others. I make it sure that I reach at least 3 sentences long so I cannot be labeled as one liner poster in here.

That is good to follow mylot guidelines. Sometimes it is also okay to answer in one line, specially when its already an reply to a reply.

I generally tend to read the discussion before I frame my response. Sometimes it's fairly easy to respond with three or four lines. There are, however, occasions when a longer response is needed

you are doing the right thing - reading the discussion first before replying. Keeps us in track of the topic.

When I read the first post, I sometimes feel the need to reply right then, and skip the discussion, but sometimes I read the hole discussion if it's interesting

I don't mind long discussions or responses IF they are interesting.
I tend to write... stories... some times, by means that I tell something that happened in my life. These do tend to be long, but I do try to make them interesting. And I get a fair number of responses to them.
I also often reply with a short answer, because that's all that is required, so I guess its up to you if you want to read one of my long "discussion" stories or just see my short responses...

I generally say what needs to be said in as few words as possible. Sometimes a longer reply is necessary, but I try to stay on topic as much as I can.
If I get a long response that is completely off topic or doesn't make sense, I will often ignore it. Sometimes I will reply that I think they misunderstood the topic or that I don't understand the response.

It's funny, when I do actually reply and say I don't understand or they didn't get the point or whatever, it is quite rare that they actually come back and reply again!

I know you do my friend- your replies are sensible. So ... Ignoring is the only solution to avoid the acute angle. I take your Advice here, dawnald! Should i say - words of the wise? :-) thanks for your thoughts!

giving responses and comments all depend in the situation. there are some who really leave a very short comment but some are happy to leave them long. posting irrelevant statements i guess will not earn you much but relevant and qualitative and quantitative posts will earn more, as i have learned from the other members.
a response to my started discussion needs to be read from start to end, even how much lengthy it is, so that i can understand the entire response and i will know exactly what and how to response or comment to them. a response to others discussion which i want to respond to, which is a bit long, i sometimes skip them, just to save my time and i can go to responding to the said discussion.
it shouldn't be that way. as mylot admin had told us in the guidelines to read all the responses before giving our own response.

hello tigerlily,
if its something that interest me, yes i do read it... no matter how long it was! actually just couple of days ago, i have read a post which is really long and it even have 2 parts, but believe me, its worth the time reading coz the message and the writing is just great and full of feelings...
but of course i don't do it all the time! haha coz there are also times that i feel like i am so lazy reading long posts...
but if its directed to me, of course i will be reading it and will comment back...just like in real life, when someone is talking or saying something to me, i don't ignore them...

Cool!! 2 pages reply?? Wow! the writer must have poured all the contents of her heart on the keyboard. I bet she feels now very light, no more burden. That is something!

A lot depends on the topic that I'm replying to. If it's a complicated topic of discussion, like some of the political or current events discussions, it could take several paragraphs to craft a complete response. If it's a simple topic, a few sentences can say everything that needs to be said.
One thing I learned about MyLot though. New users aren't allowed to paste their response into a discussion, you are only allowed to type it in. I have responded to discussions where I spend 20 minutes or more thinking about the issue and composing a quality response with much thought behind it and then when I go to post it, the page fails to load or some other glitch happens and I lose everything I've written, which can be maddening, especially after putting forth your best effort. So, while quality counts, I don't recommend you spend a long time writing long responses until you can compose it offsite and then paste it in. That way, if you lose it on MyLot, you can then repost it easily.

Personally I keep my replies short. Unless I am trying to walk someone through them. Meaning I have to explain how something works. But, in general I like to be short and streight to the point. Sometimes I'll read long replies especially if they are directed at me. But, I don't otherwise. There is no real need too.

LOL.. "one's biography" ~ that's funny. I encountered few responses that are so long but doesn't comply on the topic or main issue. It was like reading a novel that I don't care to read. But I cannot deny the fact that there are some that gives full detail on certain topic from which you can get good ideas and knowledge from. Some would prefer few sentences but has relevance while others would simply put out a one liner or few words that make you say, duh?..LOL
So,I guess it is really depends on the situation. I will still read lengthy replies because I know that they put something in it. To what is more relevant and has more sense is up to me who to choose as the best response, I guess.
Happy Lotting!

If the discussion is made up of more than 5 long sentences it starts to bore me. But if it happens, i still respond to it without reading the entire response. The poster would probably wonder when i'm off topic sometimes which is one way for me to say that i did not read the entire post because i don't have time for it. But it really depends on who's making the response. There are a lot of members here that can tell you stories and yet you will still be glued in it. However there are those who want to try to make longer sentences because that's how you can earn more. A one liner is a no good answer if you want bigger earnings.

Of course, just writing a few sentences is not very good, but you must express yourself in a way that you can have quality and not only quantity always. By few sentences I mean answers like: I agree, Me too, etc...
