should i get a domain name for my blog?

hi there guys, So here's my problem. Whenever i'd hear or read on the internet about the people who earn money by blogging or by their own website, i couldn'd help but to get jealouse. I would always ask myself if i would be as successful as the other people if i would enter blogging. So a couple of weeks ago, i signed-up and got free accounts with wordpress and blogger. You know, i put some articles, and i'm even using automated blog posting application (for my wordpress account). My problem now is i can't get enough traffic for my sites. Whenever i check my sites statistic, it always stays low if not zero. :'( Is it okey to have free account , or Should i buy a real domain and hosting? Any help would be greatly appreciated... :)
