How to buy a car?

Hi friends, I am now studying in USA, and I want to buy a car. you know, it is very inconvenient to live in USA without a car. I not familiar with cars and I can't drive at all. I want to seek for some economic car, i.e., not very expensive, or else I can't afford it. If there are some second-hand cars available in low prices, i think it will be ok for me. Could you please tell me what brand cars are nice, and provide me more other details. thank you.
