I'm using LiVES since 4 or 5 years now. It's an open source video editor developed since 2002 with the best mixing capacities that you can find. It's small in size, easy to use and efficient. It's available for Linux, BSD, MacOSX Leopard, and you can use it under Windows through a bootable live CD (some derivatives of Puppy Linux, like TeenPup 2008 include LiVES, if you want to boot it with a flash drive).

Do you mean for free or for a fee? The only video editing softwares I know you can get for free are Windows Movie Maker and iMovie. Neither is very good.
You can get Sony Vegas for about $40.00 I think. (Try the 30 day free trial to make sure you like it first) It's the best program I know of for the price. It has a lot of professional tools and it's a stable program that doesn't crash much. (If you didn't know, the freebie Windows Movie Maker is notorious for crashing)

Well, the best video editing software I have used is iMovie 09, its for Mac OS X. I'm a Mac user to sorry to say, I don't know much about windows editing softwares. I really like iMovie 09 because it's very simple and easy to use. It doesn't have advance features like other best softwares, but it's very easy to use so that's why it's my favorite video editing software. It comes with free iLife 09 suite or any new Mac, if you buy a new Mac.
