So, I found an interesting discussion to respond to. But, hey, the responses reached to 30. OMG! And the worst part, they're all lengthy. Oh no. I have to read all of them so that I would know who have the same idea as I do. Do you have the same sentiment as I do? Sometimes, I lost my appetite of responding to a hot topic because of the number of responses. It's a burden you know.

Take your time.. after awhile, you'll get used to it. That's why in my opinion, it's advisable to start only maximum up to 2 discussions each time, just in case 1 discussion gets a lot of responses and then having to comment on them might take more time as well. If there are not many responses, then you may want to start another, if you want. It's also a good habit to answer back their discussions, because they might be creating new ones and you tend to get those on notifications.

That's how I see it too. There is no point in starting many discussions and then not having time to be able to participate in them and comment to those who take part.
That's why I start so few

I am amazed at the responses (which I have just read before posting my own) on this discussion
We are told in the Guidelines NOT to respond before reading all the previous responses and this is for many reasons. If we are aware of the opinions of others we will not post the same thing BUT we can also add something to a response if we see something interesting.
It is NOT a waste of time to read the other responses and I am really surprised to see how many others are not reading them first

hi gambamarcela do not read all the many responses, just respond with
your own thoughts and let it go at that. I have got many best responses so maybe I do knowwhat I am talking about too. I do not like to read a lot of other responses as I want mine not swayed by what others say, I want my response to be genuine. After all this is my own response and
nobody else's. so there.

But,I've read from FAQ or from one of the members,it is a must to read the responses because there might be responses that have the same point/idea.Thanks for the tip anyway.

Hi gambamarcela, I tend to read each and every response, and respond based on what has been stated by the person. Often my ideas undergo a change because of something I would have a read a couple of discussions before. I read each response, as one of my objects for coming here is to improve my command over English language. :)

Ah there you are - I am not sure I wrote the last sentence correctly. :)
"as one of my objects for coming here is to ..."
I think there is something wrong with that one. :( If I read others responses, I will be able to get those of's and for's correctly I suppose. :)
Then again - "something I would have read a couple of discussions before"
that I think should read as
"something I would have read in some discussion box above" or something like that. :) So no my dear, my English is rotten. :(

Wow! You are such an industrious one. And yeah, we can improve our English grammar from other mylot users too. But, you're already very good in English.wheeh

Hello. I feel that way sometimes, especially when the topic is something which can really result in a lot of same responses, like "Which do you prefer, chocolate or vanilla ice cream?", that there's no way for your response to be unique at all. Hahaha. When the topic is really interesting and new, I respond to it no matter how many responses there are already. and yes, it is tiring to read all of them, so I go straight to posting my own comment.

I agree with a few of the others, however I didn't read all the responses ;) I don't usually read them all, I'll skim a bit or just respond with my own thoughts. I'm fairly new to the site, though and I'm having trouble finding how to go back to previous discussions I've responded to. If anyone wants to give me advice, I'll try to find my way back here, lol!

Welcome to myLot!
Above you will see a tab called 'discussions'.
There is a drop-down menu and you will see 'responded'.
There you will find the discussions that you have already responded to.
If you go to 'preferences' at the top of the page and then to 'notifiers' you can select the ones that interest you and be informed when your response receives a comment too

i dont read the response of other members before i response. i dont want to be manipulated with their response. i read it after i post my piece of mind. if i find their response very cool or clever then i hit the positive rating. thats what i do. i dont read others response first for just like you said i dont like to get discourage that someone might have said the piece i have in my mind.

I thought of that too when I was still very new here. I don't read others' responses even if we share the same idea.LOL. But I will go back to that habit then. Thanks for sharing.

Hi gambamarcela,
I do not mind to be the last person to respond to the interesting discussions. It is hard to give a non-similar post for the facts type discussions but for opinion and experiences type of discussion, even though we might have same experiences but I do believe it can be written differently. Nobody can argue with us about it because it is our opinion or experience.
So, I might read some of the responses before I post mine. I would not waste my time to read all of it especially when its come to more then one page (10 responses). But I rarely respond to the discussion with a few pages of responses except if it was started by my friends.

You are not the only one that feels that way! Especially if I'm having a busy day. I still try to respond to every comment back since I think it's the right thing to do but it can take some time! Congrats on getting such a great response!! Take care!

lol. you re right. sometimes i just move to the next discussion instead of forcing my point to a already opinion-flooding one. lol. sometimes i do read the discussion if i m really interested in the topic.

I used to do that! Then I realized that it doesn't matter what others have put in. My response will be to the initial discussion, so I should be writing my own views as a response, whether I read the others or not. If I happen to have similar views with another responder, then I would read about it from user who started the discussion.
So, don't look at it as a burden. Just keep on responding! And have a great time doing it!

I've not responded to a couple of discussions because of the large number and the length of the responses. I know I should jump right in, but you're right, it does take a lot of time to read everything to make sure you're up with the ongoing discussion/responses.

you know what1 i use to do that too but then i realised that they cant take off my comment from the post if its the same. even if they do, its something u would learn from my lot and move on! so its no big deal :)
plus if u spend ur reading time on responding to more discussions, u will probably get more cents ;) good luck! happy mylotting! :)

its about how we respect the responses and discussion started and about what. i think if the discussion about what we interested in its looks so simple and nice to replay it. couse we know that we do what we loved in. that what i shall do in the future, in the beginning of this part, i just only watching what was going on in my interested discussion first and trying to replay it well. that is my opinion

I do not think you have to read everything in there if you have similar ideas I guess that does not violate mylot guidelines. What I think Mylot is saying is for the members posting the same topic but when you are responding you may say your thought as it is even if your idea is the same as with others responders to the post. Just answer and of course no copying of exact post from others just say your thoughts and I think that would be fine.

Don't bother with others responses. No two people have the same response as yours. Reading from others will only influence what you are going to write. Originality still is the best that comes out from anyone. Please don't be discouraged to response to hot topics as you might be surprised what you learned from others who are drawn to response to that particular hot discussion. I am more than fascinated to see my discussion drawing many responses as I feel people have something to say in what I have put in my discussion. And I make sure I will come to each and every responses that I received without fail even it means 10 pages of responses. It is a challenge for me.

Hi, friend. When i respond to a discussion, i just read what the starter of this discussion has to say, not the responses of other people. As soon as i'm clear about the situation, i share my own thoughts. I don't care whether other people hold the similar view as i do or not. What i care about is what i have to say to share my opinion on that topic.

It truly is hard to read all the responses and try to reply to all the responses, considering that if you individually reply to them that doesn't add to the number of posts. As much as possible, I will try to read everything really fast and try to reply to each one of them. But I don't know how I would deal with 30 posts and very lengthy posts. Speaking of that, I haven't replied yet to your response on one of my discussions. I'll get to it and the rest of the responses there later. ^.^'

The main reason why i seldom start discussions is it becomes overwhelming sometimes to respond to each and everyone. Especially if you will receive a lot of responses. It more becomes a burden since you have to come up with different ways and words even though you mean the same thing just to make your response appear unique. And worst, you run out of words to say.
