Hello a young friend today presented a paper on proper way of using laptops, i find some points useful and sharing here. As the name suggests this device is used on ones lap. During use it generates lot of heat , on ones lap it can increase the temp by few degrees. This may cause damage to the sperm in male. Natue has stored this in the sac no doubt, by wearing tight briefs it comes close to our body and becomes warm too. So this friend advised to use the laptop on lap NOT for longer hours and keep a book below so that there is ventilation to remove the heat. Pregnant women should also keep the laptop away from body.
Hope this is useful/

dear professor,
laptop is a portable, battery-powered microcomputer small enough to rest on the user's lap. but you have just enumerated the bad effects on one's body. so i guess it may be called a laptop but it is better placed on top of a table.
radiation coming from it might be very harmful to babies inside the pregnant woman. it is just right to avoid it for a few months while the baby is still unborn.
thank you for this response. it is very useful.

dear acie,
i am used to believe that laptop or any computer for that matter is not good for the baby on a pregnant woman. and i had to search to make sure my answer has basis. and i read this: http://www.babyzone.com/askanexpert/are-laptops-safe-during-pregnancy.
well, i was confused with my answer which i have been believing since long and that which i have read, which i am quoting here:
"Luckily, a laptop is safe to use in pregnancy. Some laptops can get warmer than others, but the heat should not cause a problem for your baby, nor should any fear of radiation. Place the laptop on your thighs or laptop desk for maximum comfort. The screen of the computer, also known as a VDU (visual display unit) was once thought to emit radiation that might lead to problems with pregnancy including miscarriage. This idea has been disproved in recent studies." by Beth M. Iovinelli, RN, BSN, IBCLC
tell me what you think.

I've read about this too. Laptops can get too hot sometimes it may lead to first degree burn. Reading manuals on laptops, you can see there that we must not obstruct the air flow in its ventilation. What you've shared here is very useful but I also want to suggest another thing. Since laptops have a much more smaller screen, we tend to keep our eyes on it closer than an ordinary desktop. Experts advise that if we will use laptop for longer period of time, we must have an anti-radiation cover on it since laptop's radiation is much more than on ordinary pc.

Hi Professor, thanks for sharing the useful info here Yeah, I did get info from articles as well as from some forwarding emails saying that it’s a risk to place the notebook on our laps. And this might affect the function of certain parts of the body. Anyway for the sake of the safety and health of a gentleman and pregnant woman it is always wise not to place the laptop on the laps.
I can see some people placing laptop on their laps while surfing net at the coffee outlet. It's convenient to do so no doubt but have to face the risk that you have mentioned above. Hopefully they will earn the info after reading your content here
Have a nice day

Hello Sir,
At present I don’t have a laptop and I am using desktop at home and office. But I am happy to know about the disadvantages of laptop and the precautions taken by us when we use a laptop. I think every machine has its own advantages and disadvantages. Most of us did not aware about the disadvantages in the first instance. It is good to share the knowledge with our friends so that we can educate them too and they will aware about the bad and good sides of the machine. So thank you so much for sharing your knowledge about the laptop, in case I will buy a laptop definitely I will remember about you and your nice information.

I think you have a point! Well anyway I don't really put my laptop on my lap that much. Besides I always make it a point to put some thick magazine or a book on my lap first. Well pregnant women should really take note.

Very interesting information that you've shared here. In fact, this could really be seen as priceless information for those individuals that use a laptop in its intended manner.
I have never been comfortable with using a laptop on my desk and typically only use my laptop when I am away from my own home. However, every time that I do use my laptop I will either use a tv tray or I will use a desk/table. The reason for this is more ergonomically comfortable to me.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to tell others about it. I was just about to say that maybe, I should place laptap more on my lap because I have six kids already and I don't want to bear children anymore. But on the other hand, I've quickly thought, the emission of eletromagnetic rays, if I call it right, will not only make one barren or sterile, but will also affect the good cells in the body, thereby causing cancer.

Hi Professor, I don't think I have ever used my 'Note Book' - another name for the device in question - on my lap. Some interesting advice, however. Mike.

You have a valid point and hope that many find it useful for them; I love my laptop and the fact that it can be a help to me and a convenience for not going into another room to use the desktops; since I bought this, every one wants to use my laptop. but I let them know that once they get theirs, leave mine alone. Thanks for your tips.
