Are you motivated by money?

Money is usually a strong motivator. Many parents are able to get their kids to do extra chores with the promises of more pocket money. Many bosses use money and promotion prospect to get their staff to do more work. In fact, most employees willingly do more overtime for the sake of getting more money. Are you motivated by money? To what extent does money motivates you? Is there anything in life that money cannot motivate you, regardless how much money is offered to you?

Money is definitely a great motivator. I wouldn't do anything illegal and probably not anything immoral. That is something you can honestly answer until you are in that position. Money does strange things to people.

Hi Mommaj, even cave women need money oh! Money is really a very strong motivator. I think you can write an article of 1,200 words on this. That will generate million of pageviews, and Associated Content will have to create another planet for you to stay. I would not do anything for money too. I hate to think of earning money in this manner. This is the true meaning of filthy money. I want to earn money through honest means, so that I can face my conscience when I sleep every night.

haha Mommaj, I dont think those bad guys have nightmares. They probably can sleep like a pig even in prison. Faster send your ghosts to disturb their sleep, so that they cannot rest at night. And they will not have the energy to do bad things during the day. Just hope that the government can take away all their money, and give us tax exemption for a few years.

You have a great point. It would be really hard to look yourself in the mirror and see what you once were. I don't understand how people choose some of the choices they do and can still sleep at night. They must have horrible nightmares or not know right from wrong.

There are plenty of things that money can not motivate me toward but there are a few things I would rather not do (like work! LOL) that are made more bearable by being able to receive money for them.

Hi Canellita, it is true that money makes boring work more bearable. If the money is good, I do not even mind working very long hours. At least I have the hope of early retirement. I think money is one of the most important motivators where job is concerned. Anything else is extra, money is concrete. I hate those bosses who sing praises yet when it comes to salary increment, they tighten the purse. When it comes to salary reduction, they also do it with joy.

It isn't just boring work, it is any work for which I have to leave home. I would much prefer to stay home and write and be creative.

Like the saying goes, money is the root of all evil. It can make us do a lot of things, some of which we don't like too. Its the incentive they gave us to perform and excell in the things we do, be it work or otherwise. Some will do it for bad and this is the part that brings out the evil in humans. Its basically the greed we humans have, we are never satisfied.

Hi Blueknight, actually money is not the root of all evils. The sentence in the Bible is that the love of money is the root of all evils. Hardly anyone loves money more than parents, family and friends. Even mobsters know how to value brotherhood more than money. I think when companies cannot pay salary, most of us will quit the job, and look for other jobs. No money means no motivation and reason to work for a company already.

I think that money is a good motivator... Why? *I don't get late in going to work or absent *always online and find other ways in making money. *I want to buy things I want so I work harder even more.

Yes Yresh, money is definitely a good motivator where jobs and careers are concerned. Some poor people are so motivated that they worked very hard, and they get rich after a few years of hard work and frugality. I hope you earn enough money online and offline to buy all the things you want, and work harder online and offline to save money for the future. It is good to fatten our bank account too.

Yes,i agree with your viewpoint"Money is usually a strong motivator".If i have no money ,i cannot buy food and livinggoods,go to school, see a doctor and surf the web. So,i have to work hard to get more pays by the lawful and moral ways. But ,If im a very very rich man,im not worried about that.so,money cannot motivate me.

Hi Lassie, actually we do not know how the rich guys think about money. I think money motivates them to become rich. I cannot imagine how anyone can get rich without motivation. Some people want to prove themselves to the world. The only way they can show off is to have lots and lots of money. Hardly anyone shows off by having lots and lots of children. Anyway money is a good thing, if earned by honest means.

Well at least I, would never do anything illegal, even if promised 1 million dollars. It just isn't right. I would run around the house for a few extra dollars, and I would bark like a dog on the ground for even 20 cents. But my moral cannot be purchased. I would never intentionally lose a game, or lie for someone (depends on what is the subject of lying), even if I would get a pretty handsome amount of money for doing it. Money does motivate me to do extra work, on the internet, and offline too. Especially now, when I really need money :D

Hi Ramsesxll, if only everyone thinks the same as you, the world will be a much better place. I also cannot imagine how anyone can sell their conscience for money. Those illegal arms merchants are especially bad. They sell weapons to the terrorists, gangsters, pirates and all other bad guys. Those weapons kill so many innocent folks. I wonder how they can sleep at night. It's true that even 20 cents is so sweet when we gain it by hard work. That's why many of us continue to login to mylot for discussion. It's for the money, fun and friends.

No amount of money could convince me to do something that is wrong. My principals and morals are important to me. The problem is that people don't see money as a tool, they see it as a thing that is valuable by itself. It is not, it is just a means to an end.

Hi Dragon, if everyone holds such a view, the world would be a better place. Too bad there are too many people who can do everything for money, even knowingly helping their bosses committing illegal acts. I have met many people who think that they are smart to violate the law without getting caught. Sooner or later, they will have to pay the consequences. I stay far away from these kinds of people.

No doubt money is a motivator for me. Well, I am quite well established, I mean, I am not poor or anything, I am getting by just fine, but I could always use a little bit more money, just to buy some extra stuff, that isn't vital, but I would still like to have. But yea, it depends on the job that the money is offered for. I wouldn't do any humiliating or disgusting job for even a crazy amount of money. Doing such jobs would hurt my dignity.

Hi Biomechanoid, I think with more passive income, you can even think of early retirement. Most rich people do not work for money. They have so many forms of passive income, and so many advisors to keep them posted on the market situation. They can play golf the whole day, and yet make a few thousand dollars by stock trading. This is the kind of life I envy.

well yeah I am motivated by money because without money I will have to work till am 70 and not spend the later years of my life relaxing with my kids. We all go to work or get a job to earn money so yeah I am hugely motivated by money as it gives me the chance to take my kids on 3 holidays a year treat them to nice things have a nice house in a nice neighbourhood and drive a nice car. It also means that in 10 years I will be retired where as some people will be working till the day they die.

Hi Benny, I hope I can say the same as you. I really hope to retire young or at the very least, choose to work only when I want to, not when I need to. Many of us are slaves of money, instead of treating money as strong motivators. So many people hate their jobs, their bosses, yet they have to swallow all the bitterness and bow to their bosses in order to keep the job. It is sad when money becomes the master, instead of a motivator.

Yes, I am motivated by money. My parents have always taught me that money can not buy happiness. I believe that is true. But still. You have to have money so you can pay rent and buy all the things you need. And if you have lots of it then you can buy things you want. Which can also lead to happiness. I know it cant buy friendships or love . But still I think money isint all that bad.

Hi Ladyboss, my parents also taught us the same thing that money cannot buy happiness. i used to believe them. Now I do not believe in such nonsense anymore. Money can buy happiness, but not directly. Without money, I cannot bring my parents out for dinner. I cannot bring them to go on a long trip. I cannot buy a big house for them to live in. I agree with you that money is not a bad thing. Bad or good depends on us, on how we use the money.

yes, i am motivated by money. we need money to live comfortably. i need to live in a comfortable home, drives a family car and live well with holidays thrown in and occasional eating out at restaurants and give my children a good education, give some money to my parents and give tithes and offderings to church. thus i have to work hard for my money in a career that i love to do and choose to work on. when i perform excellently well, there are promotions, bonus, ex gratia and even gift vouchers. i work hard for the money and i always do my best. i want to possess money and i make sure money does not possess me. money is a good servant but a bad master. therfore dont idolised money. first work for the money and then make the money works for us by investing it correctly or save it. dont gamble away the money at casinos or go buy digits hoping to strike rich.dont indulge in vices. have the right attitude towards good work and money.

Hi Gracefuldove, glad to hear that you have a very clear career goal. I have no doubt that all these will come to you. I am motivated by money as well. If the company does not pay me well, I doubt I will perform or even come to work. As to the matter of gambling, I dont like to gamble. However, when I see my mother playing slots so happily, I feel happy as well. She is not educated. She cannot play computer game, so slot is very similar to playing computer game. The only thing is that it costs money. fortunately we do not go to casino often.

I am not motivated by money. I am motivated by wisdom. Its only that in order to attain wisdom I need to have money. By having money I can study in a university but as of now I have no money so I search for wisdom in other ways. Luckily I have internet connection and by researching at home I was able to have necessary information which every person needs in life. If a person do not need information who is he then?

Hi Cowboyofhell, most of us are motivated by money, even though not absolutely by money. Where family and career crashes, many people still choose family over career. It's good to see that you are very realistic in your choice. It is true that university degree is necessary for a better career and self-development. Most top levels job are not skilled based. These jobs are given to those people with brains, who can think and make best decisions.

hello! yes, i am motivated by money, but not here on mylot, but in life. when I have to do something for what someone is going to pay me I am always motivated to do it as fast as i can, because then I could do something else and earn more. money are really a great motivator for many!

Hi Phoenix8606, with the amount of money that mylot pays for participating in discussion, I doubt anyone will treat it as serious money. Unless there is a way to make more than two hundred dollars in mylot through discussion, then it is worthwhile to spend more time and more effort here. As it is, mylot is just a fun place for people to rant, to mingle and to earn some coffee money.
