I have recently finished reading Neil Gaiman's The Graveyard Book. It won the Newberry Medal for Children's Literature, but it has such mass appeal that adults are bound to love it, too. The characters are well formed and the setting is described beautifully. Since my children started going to school, I have discovered a treasure trove of very good kids' books. I also very much enjoyed all the Harry Potter novels by J.K. Rowling. My husband (who is a vampire fanatic) read the entire Twilight saga by Stephanie Meyer and is now reading L.J. Smith's Vampire Diaries series. What children's stories do you love?

I can only recommend books I read when I was a teen. It looks like that is the age group you are focusing on. You already said Harry Potter.
Redwall series
Black Stallion series
Star Wars series
Little House On The Praire series
I have noticed the teen books are getting better may check some out myself. I love to read all kinds of books. I should check them out at the library no one would know they are for me. LOL
