I think that animal abuse is one of the most appalling crimes,right up there with child molestation and murder.I think animal abusers should be sentenced just as strongly as other criminal.What is your opinion on this subject?

Yes I agree. What makes it similar and as bad as the others that you mentioned is that these are crimes against things who basically can not defend themselves from it.
It is morally wrong and unfair to those who face the abuse. I agree one hundred percent with you.

I want to start my own animal sanctuary! I would love to be able to save animals from abuse, and that would be a great way! I'm (hopefully) going to take am online class that will help me get started, and then I want to work at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary to get some experience.
It's the 2nd largest animal sanctuary in the U.S.-and they offer some workshops centered around starting your own sanctuary.

I couldn't agree more. And let's face it, studies have proven that people that have no problems abusing animals, tend to abuse people and can actually turn into serial killers, especially if children engage in those acts. I don't think there should be any mercy but it's hard to change peoples opinions because 'they're just animals'.

Here's my issue with animal abuse;
Well, first of all--I love animals! lol
But animal abusers are up there with child abusers (like you said) because people who KNOW right from wrong (grown people!) are harming something that is SO innocent and SO defenseless! It drives me crazy!!!

I wholeheartedly agree with you. Animals are a lot like children. They are vulnerable and cannot defend themselves. I am a proud mother of 4 beautiful children. We also have 4 dogs and 2 cats. For as long as I can remember I have been taking in strays and providing them with love, safety, and a home. I think that the punishments for animal abusers are WAY too lenient. I watch Animal Cops on Animal Planet everyday. These people do such horrible things to their pets and most of them get away with being told that they can't have their animals back. What kind of punishment is that? It does not do anything to deter these people from getting another animal and doing the same thing to it. I believe that these people need to spend time in jail and possibly even prison. It is not right and no one should ever get away with hurting an animal or a child.

I absolutely agree one thousand percent! It's appalling what we humans do to these poor creatures at times. Breaks my heart to see the mistreatment! I think the thing that bothers me the most about it is the fact that WE (humans) domesticated these creatures. Over time we took them out of their own natural environs and forced them to become part of our way of life. With complete disregard for what is natural to them. One instance that always bothers me is when a person has a dog obviously just to have as a deterrent for would-be criminals. They don't give them any affection, don't feed them properly, keep them on tight chains out in the elements. Disgusting. Or, when an animal becomes too old or incapacitated and the "owners" just dump them in the street. It is criminal behavior no matter how it's sugar coated. Downright inhumane.
