I have windows Vista home basic. I only have one OS on my laptop. I know some have more then one, but I don't need more then one. I like vista because its got a better interface as far as my screen reader is concerned. And I have to keep my screen reader happy.

I can't afford to. For that I would need a couple thousand bucks. That's money I don't have. Maybe if I work real hard and get a real high payout somewhere, then maybe. But, not likely. I need to upgrade my current screen reader to current, then renew my sma (service mantance agreement) for my screen reader which would be about half that easily. Then I'd have to buy the operating system (windows 7) which I can't afford. Cheepst I saw online about 200 bucks. And as for Lunix, I would have to look into screen readers for it and may have to pay out-of-pocket for it. Which could easly be 1,000 or more. So.... no... not going to happen.
Only way I'd be able to really "try" lunx is if I broke down and applied to be a medical transscriptenist.

Hi, i want to add some information that Virtual PC can run Linux OS.
Thats because of its resolution.Virtual PC uses 16-bit resolution while Linux uses 24-bit resolution.
For using linux in virtual environment, best options are VMware and Vitual Box(by SUN microsystems).

I have a dual boot system on my desktop, comprising of Windows 7 and Ubuntu. My laptop has just the one operating system, which is Windows Vista.
I like Ubuntu but would not totally part with Windows, so running a dual boot is the obvious solution for me.

I used the dual boot...and the BOOT STRAP LOADER messed it all up... lolz..!!
Thats true..Ubuntu cannot compete with Windows...unless it is more and more promoted...

After familiarizing with Linux, I found it MUCH better than Windows. Now I am using Debian Unstable (Sid) after migrating from Ubuntu 9.10. Before that, I used Windows 7 Ultimate, and it was running slow (at least) on my system. Slower than XP.
Conclusion: I prefer Linux. It's free, it's fast, it's open source, and free from viruses.

Hi, i had 2 OS installed in my system. One is Windows 7 and other is Windows XP.
I think that we should have atleast 2 OS present in the system as sometimes, some problem might arise which might corrupt an OS,so a secondary OS must be there to backup the necessary documents and other data.
Also, one should also know to work on different OS and its environment. So by installing different OS one can learn to work on other environment as well.

Well, for me, I am dual booting Linux Kubuntu 9.10 [ not UBUNTU but KUBUNTU] and Windows 7 Ultimate. So, these two are enough to satisfy my needs - but, I do most of the mylotting from Kubuntu and I just play games and download stuff from Windows 7.
