hi ellie the best thing to do is to prevent it in the first place by getting a firewall. zonealarm is a great one and since I had it installed a long time back have never been hacked, someone tries they stop it at once, and notify you of where the hacker was from,usually they come from foreign countries. but I am not sure how you tell until you see some discrepanicies in your files as I have never been hacked, and also I have a r eally good antivirus protection too, free AVG 9 and its really very good.
