Law degree or ILEX?

Hi guys, just wondering if anyone has been in the same/similar situation and can offer me some advice? I am looking into becoming a solicitor and have seen that there are two routes that I can take to achieve this... doing a law degree followed by the LPC and a traineeship, or doing an ILEX qualification and the LPC. As I am working full time I will have to fit my studies around work, and therefore the time it takes for me to get fully qualified will be an average of 8 years. Can anyone with any knowledge of the qualification process give me some advice about which route to take? Thanks
