I live in England and my mother tongue is English. I have visited both Birmingham and Manchester and the local people were friendly. They are multi cultural cities with many faiths represented. They are safe in the daytime but some crime happens in the evening sometimes. The majority of people speak English in these cities. I would suggest both cities are great for shopping. I suggest Shropshire is really picturesque. Warwick Castle is near to Birmingham and so is Stratford Upon Avon. That was the birth place of Shakespeare. From Manchester I would direct you to the beautiful Peak District. Chester is a lovely city with Roman walls. York is a gem of a city and it has a minster. I adore Canterbury and it has a cathedral.
