Where do you keep your books?

If you're like me, you're an avid reader who owns lots of books. Personally, I have trouble finding places to put them all. I have one bookshelf which I have stacked the books in horizontally so that I could fit as many books in as possible. I'm also using shelves on my desk and in my closet as bookshelves. A friend of mine would shove them all in a drawer. Where do you keep your books? Do you have an overflowing bookshelf? Do you just check books out from the library to save yourself the trouble or do you have your own personal library at home?

Most of my books I keep on all the shelves I have all around the house. Then I have a few on the coffee table by the couch. And of course by my bed I have a stack of the ones I am currently reading! (this is when I had my own house!)

I have a small shelf for books I am currently reading or about to read along with a small stack (usually only two) of books that I read before going to bed.

If you really have so many books I think you should put it all in one small spare room, if you have one and make it like a mini library, built a stack of shelves on it's walls so it will save space, through this you will have a place for your books and also a place for you to read and enjoy your collections.

Yeah, I don't have a spare room. I still live with my parents. (And I don't think they appreciate it when I nab some of their shelf space) I hope that when I finally get my own house (which could be awhile because I'll probably have to live in an apartment for a few years) I can build my own personal library. Thanks for your comment!

Last time I used to have the same problem as you. But since then I've donated some of the old books away and now I am reading e books (if the titles are available in digital format) instead of buying them. Now i can save as much e books as I want on my external hard disk which solves my problem. Cheers.

Yeah... I can't stand e-books though. I think I actually like having a collection that I'm running out of spaces to store. It's not the same when its all on some hard disk somewhere. Thanks for your comment!

Oohh our books are all over the place. I usually just stack them on top of a table or on a shelf. Right now my latest books are in an cabinet so they are out of the way. I would love to someday have my own personal library, but with property prices being so high these days...

I'd like to have my own personal library one day too. I've started collecting the books but I have yet to get any real-estate to put them on. lol

I dont have lots of books but my sister have lots and lots of books at home. My parents decided to make a mini library for her. It was really good for her and for us too because we were able to place them in the right place for them. We also have easy access on the books that she has and the books that she needs. It was very convenient.

I'd like to have my own library too, but it's probably going to have to wait until I get my own house. Thanks for your comment!

I agree with you. I have sooo many books, and I often get fed up with trying to store them all. The 2 bookcases i have are full up and then i have a big cupboard which is overflowing with books too. I wish to get rid of them sometimes but i do not have the heart!

Like my Dad maybe? Even if he doesn't really like a book, he still doesn't want to get rid of it. As for me, I usually only keep books that I really like. If I buy a book but don't like it, I'll probably sell it to Half Price Books later. I'm not really fed-up with having so many books and so little book-space. I actually think its kind of fun, but I would like to have my own personal library one day.

Two places mainly. I have a big book shelf in my living room. I also keep books in my room on a wooden table. The last place I keep books especially ones I'm currently reading is in my backpack so I always have them for long van service rides or waiting rooms. Two areas where I always seem to end up with no reading material.

I use bookshelves. I've got those modular, cube type units that you can add to. They span one wall and the books are stacked horizontally and vertically. I do try to keep some semblance of alphabetical order and organization, because it makes it easier to find a specific book. A Kindle is definitely in the future though. Store all my books in one small, easy-to-find location? Oh, yeah!

Yeah, Kindles are good for you if you're short on storage space, but I despise e-books with an unmatched passion. I like having tangible books in my hands that I can turn the pages of and store in my own home collection. So no, a Kindle is not in my future.

Well my book shelf is always overloaded, though i clean them weekends. But still my books are more. When i open them, one or two may fall down. I have a mini library where i catagorize books of my interest and of dads and brother.

I am ashamed to say that my book collection is currently packed into two large suitcases under the beds- I simply do not have any room anywhere in the house to store tham at the moment so they will have to stay right where they are for now.

I keep them mainly on the bookshelf and all over my hause. I don't read all the time, but whenever i wish to read I grab a book, read and then toss it somewhere. It is a bad habit, but I just can't help it. I buy a lot of books and the strange thing is there are some that i don't even read - just a few, I am always postoping because their are too hard or the least interesting and i have never read them. It is ridiculous and also funny, but I reckon that i'll read them someday - I bought them in the first place. Have a nice myLotting :)

I buy books all the time too, but I usually don't go a week without reading them. It's very rare that I buy a book and post-pone reading it. Of course I also find myself running out of books to read all the time. It's so sad. I have a minor bat habit of tossing books somewhere after I read them too. Thanks for your response!

I have the same problem. There is simply no space for the books. All my bookshelves are full to overflowing. I have finally adopted a simple method. The books that are "old", which means I have read them a few times, are ones that I simply crate up and put in the lumber room. So, only the "current" ones are on the bookshelves. I do house cleaning once a year, and do the process of crating then. If you simply print out a list of the contents and stick it on top of the crate, you're set.

well friend I got pretty much the same problem here. I do have a bookshelf and I fill it with books now I dont know where to put them so I crafted myself a book holder (yeah i know) and I put them on a pile there, soon I'm going to run out of space there so I really have to think about another place in my room :) however it is not very wide to continue with that effort so I don't know :) probably I'll stack them somewhere in drawers or on my desk...

I have two book cases, about a dozen boxes stacked in my living room, stacks in my bedroom and closet, a few in my bathroom, and one or two in my kitchen that aren't cookbooks. One of these days I may get organized.

I am a very avid reader and I was running out of places to put my books. I ended up buying a Nook from Barnes and Noble, and I love it. I can carry my entire library with me at all times so I can read whatever I'm in the mood for without having to carry around a bunch of books. All my books are backed up on my online library so if my Nook crashes or anything like that my books won't be lost. My warranty will cover me for a new one and all I have to do is send my library to my new Nook. I love it! Now I keep my paperback and hardback books in a box until I can set up my own personal library.

I used to have a book shelf but it took up too much room so I had to get rid of it. Now I just pile up my books in stacks against my bedroom wall. If it is book(s) that I am currently reading then I tend to stack them up near my bed because I usually read a lot at night. I have a lot of books some of them are quite big and heavy so they do take up a lot of space.

I have a few boxes in the garage where all my books go. Except for a few novels which I would like my nine-year old to start reading, the rest are in the boxes. Even books from the few courses I took for advanced learning are in there. I've already bought a few shelvings to put some semblance of order for these boxes in the garage. Still, I'd have to get them organized soon. Maybe next spring!

I keep my books on the table. It is not possible to keep all the books on the table. So i keep some importank books on the table and keep other books on book self. I have a lot of book in different subject. So in the table do not have enough space to keep all the books.
