Hi friends,
As I post this, I'm still shaking from the encounter I've experienced a few moments ago.. I was on my way home, I just got back from my grandma's house just a few blocks away, carrying my baby cousin. Then suddenly, 3 neighborhood dogs started barking furiously at me and the baby! I tried to stand still and shoo them away, but this particular dog bared his fangs at me furiously and a few inches away from my legs! I was wearing shorts because of the summer heat in our country! I couldn't pick up a pebble to throw to the dogs because I'm carrying my baby cousin, I was so scared to death! It's a good thing some neighbors saw what the commotion is about and immediately came to my rescue and shoo the dogs away. My baby cousin started crying because we're both terrified. I'm scared to be bitten by a dog because of the rabies!
I should warn my neighbor about her dogs, she shouldn't let them loose if they're always chasing and biting people who passes by!
Have you ever been bitten by a dog or almost, just like my experience?
Kindly share.

Hi princess! Woah! That was really a terrifying moment. It's good that you and the baby haven't got bitten. The owners shouldn't really let their dogs be out of the gate or let them loose from the chains if they know that their dogs likes to chase people passing by. I'm really glad that you have survived that incident. Well, you should really warn your neighbors about their dogs. You said, you like to pick up a small stone or pebble to be thrown towards the dogs, but that was not a good idea since it will just make the dogs more furious and angry. The better way is just what you did, just continue walking but keep yourself alert. Well, I was told by my mom that whenever I will be chase by a dog, just pray for Saint Roch or San Roque, the patron saint of dogs. Just keep on pronouncing his name, like "San Roque San Roque San Roque..." or "San Roque help me". I already been chased by a dog too but fortunately I was never been bitten also. Aside from pronouncing the saint's name, there's also one thing I have been thought during those situation, that is to "bite your tounge", just a slight one and keep it that way while you are passing the dogs. Haha! I don't know how it can really helps but still I do that. Another thing which my mom always do is to bring an umbrella all the time she goes out, it can serve as protection. Well, just learn from it and take care of yourself always. God bless! Happy myLotting!

Hi mark,
yes, it was really terrifying. Imagine, I could see the dog's fangs wanting to bite my flesh! I still shudder at the memory. It's really a good thing some bums saw us and shoo the dog at the nick of time.
I used to bite my tongue too, when I was little when I see a dog. I don't know the scientific reason behind it, but it works for me and helps me calm down.
Really?? I don't know Saint Roque is the patron of dogs. I would now call his name every time I see a dog! Thanks for sharing that, I learned something!

Yes, imagine if you got bitten and took out a part of your flesh, that will be horrible. The flesh that was been bitten out cannot be replaced, even the owner will pay you, the scar will remain there. That will really be an unforgettable moment from you. I'm glad that you really survived that incident. Well I guess the biting of your tongue really helps. Lol! Well just take care next time, bring an umbrella, and don't forget to pray for San Roque. Hope you will never encounter such terrifying moment again. Happy myLotting!

Yes, I agree with you. Owners should at least keep their harmful pets in a leash to prevent biting someone.

Of late, most of the dogs I know are pretty friendly. They always come up to smell. I guess that's their way of sizing you up. I'm sure nowadays most of the dogs have had their shots.
When I was young-er, I did have experiences similar like yours. And like what you did, standing perfectly still would help you not get bitten.

I've encountered several dogs who are friendly. Our house dog doesn't bite, but just smell the person. I hope all owners of dogs will have their pets get shots for anti-rabies.

Hello Princess, I know how you feel, When I was thirteen I experienced that feeling, It really scare the hell out of me and As I grew I've been traumatized with dogs. I'm afraid getting bitten LOL. I'm 19 now and still scared with dogs, but not toy dogs like shitzu, maltice, chihuahua or terrier because they are really adorable compare to Siberian huskie, German shepered, American bulldog these dogs are really huge LOL. just sharing, have a nice day.

I'm afraid of being bitten too. That's why I think I have a phobia now. LOL
toy dogs are cute, but I agree with you that big burly dogs can be terrifying, especially if you had unpleasant encounters with dogs. thanks for sharing.

Thats pretty scary indeed. Once when i was still small i had the same experiencei im walking going home when a neighbors dog furiously attacked me im lucky enough to dodge it and found some stones to throw at the dog i used all my strength just to hit him. And i did after he retreated a bit i stand up and ran as fast as i can not to mention i still have some stones in my hand just in case he ran after me ;)

I do that too, I collect stones to throw to the dogs, and keep some extras with me in case they came back. It's my weapon and defense to attack of the dogs. It works, they ran away and it helps keep distance between you and the dog. Thanks for sharing.

Oh..good to know that your neighbor came just right in time.
You must warn your neighbor.
Here in our place, stray dogs are not allowed and you can even report it to the barangay officials or tanod(guards).
You are so lucky dear...thanks God for that.

Yes, I've been saved from rabies! hehehe. It's really a good thing they came at the right time. Or else I would be a chow for the dogs.
That's really a good policy in your place. I wish they had like that too in our subdivision. Nut the thing is, the dog who almost bit me is not a stray dog but a dog of a neighbor. I must say something to them to prevent harming other passerbys.

yes, i've encountered this situation several times, almost every house have a dog in our village, no matter you go to anywhere, you can hear the yip, it is so terrible to walk alone, breeding dog to prevent thief, most of time, the dog can't recognize the discrimination between a good egg and baddy, even bit a familiar sometimes

In our subdivision, all houses have dogs. It has advantages because it helps catch thieves or someone who'll attempt to rob your house. But I agree sometimes they do not recognized who's the good or bad guy. It can be terrifying to be barked at without a bad intention.

When I was about 16, I had a friend that had a very large dog. I think it was a cattle dog, but I can't remember for certain. At any rate, I had been to her house and around this dog many times. One day I was walking home with my friend. She had a very long driveway. Her dog met us at the end and was walking back with us. The dog started low growling at me. I immediately told my friend the dog was upset for some reason and I thought the dog would try and bite me. She said, no way. We kept walking and went into her house. I turned to sit down at the kitchen table and the dog grabbed me by the thigh. Luckily, my friend's father was in the kitchen and got the dog off, but I was always very leery of big dogs after that. I kind of got over it, but I still won't approach a big dog without knowing the owners and the dog. Any dog that starts that low growl is getting ready to bite.

Oh, that's frightening just describing the size of the dog. It would definitely freak me out! Good thing you weren't bitten. It must be scary to be grabbed by a big dog. I noticed it too, when the dog growls lowly, you could barely hear it, but you could definitely feel the anger, he is planning to bite you. scary!

Hi pricess. Yes i completely agree.
They shouldnt let their dogs at loose.
I could imagine how terrified you are specially, you have a baby around.
It must have been the summer heat that made those guys agitated and furious
Thankfully a neighbor of yours came to your rescue.
I have been bitten once when i was a kid and thankfully its our dog and im sure it isnt infected rabies.
But we can never be so sure, if you get bitten by one it is best to be vaccinated just to be sure.
