My husband and I like to eat out but every time we do that we always budget. There has to be a certain amount that we should spend if we eat out and it should never exceed from the money alloted for eating out. Food here in your country is also cheap so we get to eat out for only $4 and the most is $5. How about you? How much do you usually spend?

The last time my partner and I went out for a meal it cost us £30, which may not sound a lot but as we are on a very tight budget, it cost us a lot.

For me, I am bit shocked. 30 euros, that's tooooooo much. In pakistan, that my whole month eating budget in good place. Currently, I am in france so 30 euros like kinda of my weekly budget at home. Europe after all is very expensive place. Nevertheless, at least you have enjoyed you're meal ( i hope so )

I think 30 euros is also expensive for me. If I would have to spend as much money as that in only one day then I would go to a first class restaurant. I would go for a first class buffet restaurant here in our place that cost $5 per person. I also want to try eating there but its just too expensive to go there. But maybe one day soon me and my husband will be able to try it there.

Well, you can save money and go out for eating once a month , i guess. Instead of eating outside you can have very romantic type of dinner at home, prepare and set everything like you're in a real restaurant. If you really want to try a expensive restaurant then you can wait few month and save some money and try that restaurant.

well, it depends on where we want to eat. If it's just in a fast food, then probably around 5 to 6usd, but if we want to eat at a restaurant, then our budget is usually around 13 to 18usd. I think the most that we have paid in eating out is around 30usd in one meal. And that I think was our anniversary or a really important occasion. Nowadays though, we seldom eat out, cause we are budgeting our money and trying to save more.

Yup, when budgeting, I think the first thing that I take out of our monthly expenses is the date budget. LOL. We can always just stay at my place and just watch dvd and then I'll cook for him so we won't be using up so much money.

We are actually trying to save more these days because we are planning to have a vacation and eating out all the time will not be a very good idea so we'll just have to budget. Maybe we can just eat out once or twice in a month.

I am from the Philippines and food can be cheaper than other countries. I am a thrifty person and I try to spend the least when I eat out. I try to spend on an average of $1.50 while I sometimes reach $3.00 the most. I try to choose the least expensive meal out there yet satisfying and delicious.

Oh, you're from the Philippines too. Hello kababayan! I usually eat at food courts. The cheapest meal with lots of viands I'd say are the stores that has the rice + noodle + soup + 2 viands, usually at 69 pesos. As for other establishments, Wendy's has a current promo, the P49 meals. It is served with a drink and you could choose from either zesty garlic chicken burger, mushroom melt, and another type of burger. Also, it can be spaghetti or salad. Currently, Pizza Hut also a promo called the P99 Super Panalo Meals ( http://www.pizzahut.com.ph/2007/superpanalo.php ) You can choose your appetizer (soup, garlic bread, salad) then main course (rice meal, pizza or pasta) and drink or brownie. Although this is for lunch, some branches provide the meal the whole day but without the 10-minute guarantee if it's not lunch hours. I really find Jollibee's 39ers funny. They say it's the cheapest lunch there is. Hahaha, I see that. But if the people are made to see and believe that the lunch is just 39 pesos, they are mistaken. It didn't mention anything about drinks...which is around 22 pesos I think. Add that and it becomes 61 pesos Maxim's Teahouse (MXT) can be found in some food courts and sometimes has their own restaurant in malls. I have only eaten the same thing there but it really is a satisfying meal. I like their Pork Asado meal (#6 I think) that has pancit canton and fried shanghai rice. It really is delicious and the serving size is large. It costs 90 pesos and it's all worth it. This are all I could think of at this moment. I hope this could give you more choices when eating out. =)

That's good! I think I'd better try that. At least its a less than one dollar. Where do you usually go and where do you usually eat? Can you make some suggestions where we can only spend $3? I'm also from the Philippines.

I wish I could say that we limit our spending too when eating out. But for me and my boyfriend, we spend at least 10 dollars on one meal, that's for the two of us already. That is not budget eating. :( Sometimes, I'd like us to go back to fast food dining because that will definitely cost cheaper, but those aren't real meals either.

That's how we justify the spending. But we also know that we shouldn't dine out too often because we really want to save up!

I think its not budgeting at all. I think $10 in one meal is okay as long as the food is really good and its in a fancy restaurant.

We usually spend $5-$7 whenever me and my husband dine out if it's just a regular one. But when it's something special we spend up to $26 which we only do at least once or twice a month. Honestly, my husband and I are not yet good in budgetting. Maybe because we are just starting and have just started our own family about a year ago. We are still used to our old lifestyle as single people but now that we already have a 5 month old son and another kid on the way we are starting to learn to be more practical. We don't cook meal before so everyday we just dine out or call for a delivery. However, about a month ago we started cooking meal at home. We were able to save more.

I can understand you. We really have to learn to be more practical nowadays. My husband and I are aboth working and compared to average people here in our country we can say that we earn more. However, it always seems that what we both earn is not enough. Maybe it has something to do also with our lifestyle. However, we are getting more practical little by little. Slowly, we learn to do smart budgetting. We always buy all stuffs and groceries in a Supermarket. However, just recently we planned to buy all the meat, fish, and other frozen items in a regular wet market where the price is lower and the goods are still fresh. We usually shop for groceries good for 15 days and it always end up that the meat is no longer good and the vegetables are no longer fresh on the second week. That's the reason we came up with a decision to do the marketing every week instead of every two weeks.

I am also newly wed just like you but my husband and I already agreed to have a budget in everything that we should buy because we are planning to have a baby. Actually, when we have saved some amount of money already it always happen that we would have to spend it for another one like somebody is gonna get sick and things like that. I am also worried these days because I am the only one working now and if we would have a baby, my earnings would not be enough. My husband is making some effort but its just hard to look for jobs these days that's why I always worry about where to look for more money.

The prices have been going up fast at restaurants. I used to try to stay in the $5 range, now I go out a lot less and try to stay in the $10 range.

Believe me u i always bring more than extra cash with myself plus my credit card :-) so i am never at risk. As far as the prices are concerned i think it's global effect. The prices of food is rising in every country. In our country the food prices are going up because of inflation in our country. Before i could eat for .50 cent and now it costs 1 dollar.

I think its always good to keep a budget but you can always bring extra cash right because you'll never know if the prices of the food in the restaurants have increased already. I do that every time, I also have to bring extra cash when we eat out. It would be better to bring extra than something just enough.

Well, I don't have any set budget of eating outside. Usually, whenever I felt I want to eat outside I just go for eating in the restaurant. As I am a university student, whenever I had long day at the university I usually eat outside. In our country the food is cheap. It's like 2 dollars ( good quality food) plus you can eat as much as you can. So, budget is not the problem for me. So, whenever I am in mood to eat outside, so I just eat. I don' think about the budget.
• France
22 Mar 10
Believe you got it all wrong. I have a very limited budget. Around 35 dollars per month, which i have to manage my all expenses. Like traveling expensive for coming and going to university, eating, buying books & notes, paying my internet bills, phine bills plus all other expenses. The only i can manage my budget well enough.

Maybe for university students who are just given money by their parents for their food dont have to think about budgeting because their parents are the ones budgeting. Its so easy for students as lucky as you are because when you dont have money anymore you can just ask your parents for more. But there are also university students who cant afford to buy food outside because it could be that they are working students. Maybe when you earn your money, you will appreciate the importance of budgeting.

I don't like to eat out too often, because I'm a vegeterian (and just a really picky eater, lol). But I do like to go out every couple of weeks or so. My budget for eating out, I'd say, is under $15 per person, usually something like $8 or $12 a person. I think that's a reasonable way to watch price. ^o^

I think budgeting will also depend on the diet that you have and the kind of food that you are eating. I dont know if vegetables are more expensive there in your country but here in my country if you eat more vegetables then you will definitely spend less cause they really cheap.

Vegetables in our country is really cheap as compared with meat and chicken. The reason is the Pakistan is agricultural counrty so i have loadz of farm so the vegetables are cheap. In my case we got our own farms in country side so we can have vegetables for FREE but i dont lile vegetables ;-(

Well righty said you spend as much money as you want on your son, afterall he is your son. In my country parents going out with son or daughter is very normally thing. Normally, parents don't think about their budget much because they want to see their childern happy

If you would have to spend that money with your son then I think its worth it. You are establishing a certain relationship with your son and that is really good. I think it doesnt matter to me on how much I would spend if I would have to spend it with my son or daughter. But I understand your situation cause you have a new project. But for me, its still best to continue having those moments with your son once in a while.

well, first of all I must say that the prices in my country are maybe not that high in some others and that's why you should not think that I don't order anything at the restaurant, when you see how much I spend :) so, when I go at a restaurant, I usually go at the Chinese restaurant I spend less than $10 only for me, because as I have told the dishes are not that expensive- for an example a fried rise with vegetables and chicken meat 650gr portion costs $2-$3 which is really cheap. one main dish costs about $4-6 and the drinks are about $1 which make not more than $10-12 per person :)

Well, the chinese food is my country is very very expensive. I don't have much chinese restaurant so thats why it's hellishly expensive. It' about 20 to 30 dollars per meal, depending on the order you made. So, i never go to chinese reataurant. Even china is our neighbour country but their food in our country is very expensive. At least for me.

Wow! I think that's really cheap. I also go to chinese restaurants here in our country and they are es cheap as you said it is. They have fried rice that's usually only for one dollar. And its already very good. I dont know where you are from but if you would come and visit my country, you will enjoy a lot of chinese restaurants here that's cheaper than spending $10 per person.

Well for eating we really dont have budget. As we rarely eat out and for eating we have decided not to have any budget. For eating always eat never mind its costly or not. But one point is it should be hygenic and healthy. Though most of the foods are not good outside,we select to go nice restaurant and take it.
• France
22 Mar 10
Besthopee44 has a nice point. You don't have to think to so much deep in bugetting thing. I do my budgeting once and that's it. If my budget line is crossed then i borrow money from friends and then pay them back next month. The next month i don't go to much restaurant or try to control my other expenses like buying extra chocolate.

If I am eating out with my parents then we dont usually budget cause they have more money than we do. I really kind of like that idea that I eat out with them cause I also need not to worry about the budget because they will be paying. And you made a good point about the food that should be hygienic and healthy. That's really very important.

This shows your good with numbers, lol ! Well, good thinking. Normally, i don't think about these type of things because food is cheap in Pakistan. So, you afford to eat outside without doing this much of maths. Simply, if you are in the mood to a nice meal in a good or fancy restaurant, just eat , don't think to eat.

Same here! If I would spend that much then its going to be at a very fancy restaurant already. The prices between normal restaurants and fancy restaurants are really far but I still prefer eating in a normal restaurant because if I come to think about it, 10 divided by 2 is five so that means I would be able to use my 10 dollars in two different restaurants. lol

Im not a eat-out person. Im extremeyl cheap, so...yeah. lol. Im more of a small spurge-on-food person. Ill get like a $1.19 muffin or a $2.25 sunny d or something. But when I spend money on an actual meal its at least $5.99 - $20. Ill get subway or chinese food or a smoothie and sandwich. I never get stuff like mcdonalds because Im a bit more health conscience than that and am not a fan of the feeeling I egtw ehn I eat fast food like mcdonalds or wendys (although wendys is my prefeered fast food joint).

A muffin for $1.19 is already expensive for me. Even much more expensive if you would say $5.99-$20 for your meals. I wonder what kind of food you're eating when you spend as much as that. I also eat at fast food restaurants like mcdonald's and I usually just spend $5 and that already for me and my husband. I think its really quite cheap in here.

The cheapest food i think is in suadia. According to their economy the food is really cheap. If you really want to enjoy the pleasure of eating outside or inside at home, suadia is the place for you. In Pakistan few things are very cheap and many things are really expensive. Fast in pakistan is generally cheaper because of high competition. Even you are a regular couple who enjoy their meal at nice restaurant the average expense would be something like 50 dollars or so.
