Why companies prefer ERPs even they are costly

Why companies use ERPs like SAP, peoplesoft, even they are costly and hard a bit to learn.
they can choose another option to get a customized software solutions build for them in lower cost and targeted and designed for them. why they prefer ERPs over them.

The main reason why the companies are using ERP is to run the organization effectively n efficiently. All the departments are integrated with each other, so its very easy to transfer the data from one department to another. And also there are lots of other reason available for your question...

I think the reason for this is more about time. Because ERP's are business proven to work. If companies will just develop on it's own software solutions it will take them longer and in business sense it's not practical. And also almost all companies uses it and for standard sake it is wise to use what other uses.

yes is true!!many companies like more erp than other software,system integration for business even if erp can be costly than other things!!You know may be many of them they started with erp integration and don't like to change!!If you notice that when a company have a system integration really seldom they want change it even if the changing should be less expensive!!

@1anurag1 SAPis only one which can settle account automatically and stability .
for example financial &sales& purchase ,its system integration is the best. SAP have many modules ,such as SAP ERP is consistent of FICO PP SD MM PM WM and so on .you can have one software to deal with complex flow .saving
