Customer Service is dead today

I'm old enough to still remember when gas stations provided full-service. You pulled up and they not only filled your gas tank, but they also checked your oil and washed both windshields. They provided this service free. Today you couldn't get the clerk out of the gas station booth if it was on fire. I once walked into a Circuit City store and saw about 10 salespeople standing around. Not one came up and offered to help me in the hour I was in the store. Look where Circuit City is today. Another time I went into a Toyota dealership to test drive the Toyota Tundra because they were so highly rated on dependability. The salesman left me to go "negotiate" with his supervisor so long that I got up and walked next door and bought a Dodge Ram. We all know what Toyota thinks of their customers today. Trying to call a company today is also next to impossible. You simply can't get past all the 15 minutes of run around on the voice message to get to an operator. Are companies treating employees so much like expendable merchandise today that they no longer care how they treat their customers?

Welcome to what is left of the past at my country: Chile.Gas stations have full service. At stores you usually see the same salesmen you are describing. But we are different as personality goes. I can coax a male salesman to help me or play the bossom friends with a saleswoman and most of the time they will help. If it doesn´t work, I treat them in that voice the Queen of Hearts treats the rest of the world. I guess that is why they put those phone machines. You can´t manipulate a machine so that they start being civil. Now I accept that phone is not a good way to reach everyone, even if the phone nunber is known. I agree with you, each day it dets worse, but I´m afraid we can do nothing unless we unite.

Thank you for your response. It's so sad to see. Where is the pride sales people used to have in doing a good job.
