Age Discrimination in Employment

Have any of you come across what you believe is age discrimination when applying for jobs online? I submitted an online resume for tutoring position that required a bachelor's degree. I was called for an interview. This is the first "Group" interview I have been in where they interviewed people in groups. Although I have a GPA of 3.9, and they had multiple positions open at the time, they didn't hire me. I really felt that this was because I was older than the average interviewee. This is nearly impossible to prove. I've found with online companies, they just don't respond to your resume. Has anyone encountered this?

Yes i believe that u may not have been rejected because of the age factor alone. May be, with due respects to ur abilities,u were rejected because u didnt reach their expectations. On the contrary being old and experienced is an added advantge especially for a teaching profession because ur in a better position to handle classes efficiently. wishing u luck in the future

For employers out there I guess the reason why they want younger is because they can still be trained and far more cheaper than those with experience. But belonging to the working veterans already I also feel that it should not be the case. I strongly believe that we can handle the job more maturely than the new ones. But it is really hard to proved that you were rejected because of age because they could easily say that you didn't pass their standards which is something you cannot ask from them what it is that made them reject you.

I agree with you. This is why only taking resumes online is a very easy way for employers to discriminate without being caught at it. It would seem to me today that a company would value an older worker more as they are less apt than the younger crowd to move every year or two. It makes little sense to not hire an older worker, but I could tell in the interview that they were not seriously considering me. Perhaps they feel there will be health issues, but I have no serious health issues. As for maturity, older workers are typically as a group more reliable. I also felt that by having the group interview they put all of us in a position of having to compete with each other while we were in the interview. It was very disturbing all the way around.
