Connect the dots, anyone? I'm talking about freckles.

I've been outside working on my garden for the past five days now. We've had some absolutely AWESOME weather, especially considering the horrible winter we've had. The snow is all gone now and, just today, the first of my daffodils have blossomed. I'm in heaven outside with my hands in the dirt. So much so that I completely forgot the time today. It's supposed to rain for the next two days so today was especially important for me to get as much done as I could. Well, being the strawberry-blonde that I am (which translates to "having the redheaded skin that I have) my freckles have come out of hibernation and are in full glory. This made me think about how many guys have told me they'd love to "connect the dots", meaning my freckles, although no one ever has even tried. (Good thing, too. They'd end up getting my left uppercut somewhere around their chin.) So, do you have freckles? Have you ever been told by anyone that they'd like to connect YOUR dots? Do you like your freckles? If you don't have any, do you like freckles on other people? I actually hate mine; I'd love to have beautiful, UN-freckled skin that tans easily. Instead, I have freckles everywhere the sun shines and always wished they'd just join together so I'd look like I had a great tan. Alas, that has never happened.

I have freckles, but more so, I have big old ugly moles and in spite of having a lot removed, I still have loads more. I don't care that much about the freckles when they are nothing compared to the moles!

I understand what you're talking about. I used to have a neighbor who had over 200 moles removed from her body but said she still wasn't happy because she had so many more. I'd love to know what causes some people to have more than others. I have one that I've had most of my life. Just one. It's not even big or very dark. Yet, others have them everywhere. I don't understand it. I guess it a hereditary thing. That's the only thing I can think of.

Hello mentalward, tanning is not the only remedy for freckles mam, lemon juice is a popular home remedy for freckles, It bleaches skin so the freckles will lighten and will be less visible. Try it, I assure you your freckles will be gone in 2 to 3 months. I've tried it before not for freckles though, I used it for my acne scars and now its all gone thanks to lemon juice. Have a nice day mam.

Yeah, I've heard that the moles are hereditary, tho mom and dad didn't have a lot, my sister and I do, so does my niece. Fortunately, none have been dangerous, but I've also not seen any new ones since I was a kid so...

hi there maybe we can actually make constellations of them too. But please don't try that left uppercut on me. Fortunately I don't have freckles. I'm Asian and most of us don't get it. Freckle-wise I do consider ourselves lucky. What I totally hate about my skin, which makes me wish I had freckles instead, are the dark areas. Like on skin folds, or the knees, back of the elbow, the groin???, and even the underarms. Not really BLACK, just darker than most of my skin. Here in my place, some people actually go into their oohs and aahs when they see someone with freckles. Well there is this notion that the caucasians are of superior race and since caucasians usually have those freckles, having freckles mean you have a caucasian ancestry. hehe.

Oh, good grief! Constellations? You definitely have the GREATEST imagination I've seen! I wonder if Aries the Ram is on my body somewhere??? (I'm Aries.) Caucasians are of superior race? I can't say that I agree with that. Maybe that's because I've known too many caucasians. I don't believe that any one race is superior. We're all pretty equal in my eyes. It's what we do with our lives that determines how we rate. The people who do their best at whatever they do and have a kind and open heart are the superior ones, in my opinion. But, if I understand you correctly, if I came to the Philippines, you would all be oohing and aahing at me because I am covered in freckles. Now, Dog, all I can do with you is shake my head, although I do have a huge grin on my face.

You're Aries? When is your birthday? Mine is April 14th. Always nice to meet a fellow Arien! I have a smiley on my body but I'm not gonna tell where it is. All I will say is that it's made up of a few body parts and some surgical scars and it's REAL BIG.

Hmmm....what a coincidence. I am Aries too! I just don't have any constellations...just some annoying tiny skin tags on my right hip that resembles a smiley! If you came to the Philippines, you'd definitely earn some stares and appraising gazes at your direction. Not just because of the freckles but you in general. I myself would even admit that I tend to stare at foreigners. Maybe because you're different than most of us, physically, that is so you tend to stand out. Ooh and aahs!

I remember when my daughters was small she asked what it was on her nose an I told that where the angels kissed her while she was sleeping of course one day she said boy the angels must really like me cause you know how those freckles always seem to spread anyway we call them angel kisses

Awwwwww! That is SO SWEET! Angel kisses! That reminds me of something my mother told me. I was too young to remember but she said that, once, when we were in church, a woman asked me where I got all those freckles and my answer was "God gave them to me." My mother told me that woman just melted, scooped me up and gave me a huge hug. All I can say is that, if these are angel kisses, I must be adored by them because I'm literally covered in freckles!

I don't have freckles on my face, but I have some on my arms, because that is mostly where the sun hits me. I am fair skinned, so similar to you, I think, I burn very easily, so I avoid the direct sun at the hottest part of the day. I wear hats, wide brimmed ones when I am outside for any length of time.

I don't use sunblock this time of year as the rays aren't that strong yet until summertime. It is overcast a lot of time now, with sunny breaks for a few hours, so it is actually perfect weather for me to do any outside work before it gets too hot. I hate the extreme heat, too. I am also prone to sunstroke and heatstroke when I overdo it.

I normally avoid the sun between 10 and 2, even though I've heard that the warning has been expanded to between 10 and 4. I use sunblock and usually wear a wide brimmed hat, too. At one point, not long ago, I had to avoid the sun altogether because I developed an allergic reaction to it. I think it was from one of the medications I was on but I've managed to get off about half of those medications and now the sun doesn't bother me that way. Still, there are times like yesterday when I just forget all the precautions. I did use a sunblock but should have reapplied it. I do worry about skin cancer because, from what I've read, I'm a prime target for it: female, burned in the past, small framed and I have a very light complexion. It's one of the reasons I eat and drink a lot of foods/drinks full of antioxidants. It might help!

Oooh yeah, baby! Connect the dots. (hehehehe) It's a good thing you weren't born with skin bearing jigsaw puzzle pieces. You know how I love to solve a great mystery. Speaking of mysteries...where've you been? Oh right, getting your hands dirty. Well for the record, I don't have freckles, but have over the years, dated a few strawberry blonds and red-headed women who did...and believe me, connecting the dots is not easy! My skin on the other hand, is somewhat on the tanned shade to begin with...probably due to drinking so much tea over the years, that at one time, a doctor even thought I had jaundice! I tan so very easily, but never burn...and again...it's probably due to all the tanic acid in my system. Who knows? But as far as freckles go, they've never bothered me and actually think some people suit them. Hang on a sec... I'm beginning to see spots before my eyes just thinking a bout it. -smile- Cheers; cdrxo

I should have known that YOU would be one of those guys with the pen in your hand, ready and quite willing and eager to connect the dots. Your skin sounds very much like my oldest son's. He was born with an olive complexion and has never burned in his life. (Oh, he did have jaundice right after he was born but that has nothing to do with his skin now.) I took him to a beach when he was a year old and he just got darker! No fair!!! I used a sunblock on both of us but I still burned while I watched him get darker. I loved it when I was a kid and had freckles only across my nose and maybe a few on my shoulders because I got so many compliments from adults. (Being an Aries gal, I was very tuned-in to compliments. ) Sadly, they've spread to every inch of flesh that sees the sun. They're not blatant. I mean, they're not the first thing you notice about me, even in the middle of summer, but they're still here. I even have some on my tummy! Guess I've worn too many bikinis in my lifetime. Hey! I have a photo of myself feeding some seagulls waaaay back in the mid-70s. I was at Assateague Island where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Chesapeake Bay, wearing a bikini. I might just scan it so I can post it here, although you will definitely see how terribly thin I was at the time.

Oh! Sorry, I forgot you asked about where I've been. Prior to getting my hands dirty, I've been working hard to FINALLY get the things I inherited from my mother organized and put into the appropriate piles: things I want to keep, things I want to give to my sons, things my cousins want, and things to give to charity. It's been a long, hard job but it's almost finished. (Yippeee!!!!!) I'm also starting a new business. I don't want to talk about what it is, yet. I don't want to jinx it. But, it is something that is not on the market and is something that I know a lot of people will want. I've done a lot of research and it looks like this will take off like a rocket so I'm doing what I can now to prepare and also awaiting a patent, trademark and copyright. Patent pending is good enough for now but I do want the other things before this goes public. I will say that it's a money-saving thing so it should do even better with the economy the way it is right now. It's something I've searched high and low for and couldn't find anywhere so I decided to make it myself. Another thing I'm making is a calendar for men. 365 excuses for men, one for each day. I've known enough men to understand that the majority of them will use any excuse they can to get out of household chores, yard work, etc. I know you're not one of them but you are a rare bird, you know.

I'm feeding seagulls lemon cookies. - This was taken in the mid-70s when I was quite a bit younger and quite a bit thinner (svelt, as I was fond of saying) and quite a bit more agreeable to wearing a bikini.
Here ya go, just for you:

Freckles are much better than warts. I found the freckles cute...It's seldom to see people here with freckles. I'm starting to have warts, according to others, a sign of old age. It started to a single wart on my face now I have around five 3 on my face and 2 at my neck.

I have to agree, freckles are better than warts. I'm definitely up there in age, having quite a lot of years behind me now but I haven't gotten any new warts, just more freckles. I have one wart that I've had most of my life and it's pretty much the same as it was when I was much younger. Maybe that's my consolation prize for having so many freckles.

There is nothing wrong with freckles! I think they are attractive. I have never had them as I'm a brunette that never burned but always tanned. I've always wanted to be a fair-skinned, freckled redhead. We always want what we can't have!

That's why women used to cover up during the afternoon, to avoid the dreaded freckles. My husband thinks they're cute. Myself, I don't care one way or the other. But then I don't have very many...

Mine aren't TOO obvious but you know I have them if you're standing near me, at least in the summer. They all but vanish in the winter. With me, it's just a matter of wanting what I don't have, I think. At least mine look like they belong on me. My sister also had freckles but she was a brunette with dark brown eyes. We both got our father's skin. My mother didn't have a single freckle.

ooohhh! I absolutely love freckles. guess its because my mom had them and she was just so beautiful. people used to say she took their breathe away with her beauty. She hated them also, but i thought it was so pretty the way they slightly showed through her make up. but alas, i looked to much like my dad, a very plain man, with no freckles oh well.

Aww! But you have some other, wonderful traits. I'd give anything to have plain, unfreckled skin! I look like my father, hair color, skin tone and looks. The only difference was eye color. Mine are gray-blue, his were green-hazel. (My mother had brown eyes and I always thought I was a product of the milkman because of my eye color. ) My sister took after our mother, although she had freckles while my mother had none at all. My youngest son got my coloring and freckles. He doesn't like his freckles, either, but he doesn't have nearly as many, just across his nose and on his shoulders. When I was his age, I was covered in them. Guess I spent way too much time outside. Sigh!

Hey Marti, I'm more concerned about whatever sunburn you may have. I hope you have an aloe plant for times like this. I know how much you have been looking forward to your day in the Sun and garden. I'm sure that the freckles are even welcomed. I have dark hair and freckles. I have always liked my freckles. Like you, I've had many comments about my freckles including connect the dots. Remember Marti, unfreckled skin shows all other blemishes. So enjoy your freckles!! Love Ya, Leenie

Hi Leenie! You're such a sweetheart! Yes, I do have an aloe plant and do use it when needed but I didn't get too burned yesterday. I have a nice, rosey glow but that's about it as far as sunburn goes. I used a sunscreen because I had a feeling I'd be outside a bit longer than I should have been. I should have reapplied it but, well, I forgot. That's where the freckles came in. Aaaarrgh!!! My oldest son has never burned in his life. He has awesome skin and terrific coloring. Even as a baby, when we'd go to the beach, he never burned. He just tans. My youngest son, though, he has my skin, although not nearly as many freckles. It's a cruel twist of fate that I have this skin and love being outside so much. But, as this is the hand I was dealt, I'll accept all the freckles. There's nothing I can do about them, anyway, right? LOL There's NO WAY I'll stay inside and avoid the freckles altogether. Nope. Maybe I should hang the sunscreen around my neck from now on so I don't forget it. Hmmm... maybe hang an alarm clock around my neck as well so there's no way I could forget to reapply the sunscreen. Love ya right back! P.S. How did the move go? Are you all settled?

I don’t have freckles but one of my friends does and I don’t think they look bad at all. My friend has rather good skin so her freckles don’t make her complexion look marked or anything and I’m sure yours is like that too. Personally I think there are worse skin problems than freckles but I don’t have any so...I don’t put my face to the sun anymore because I’ve seen the terrible consequences of skin cancer first hand. I hope you always wear good sunscreen before you go out gardening especially during the summer! I wouldn’t concern myself about freckles, they look cute.

Hi Paula. I do use a sunscreen, most of the time, anyway. I'm a prime target for skin cancer and it does worry me. That's one reason I eat and drink all the antioxidants I can. I had two blueberry bushes because they're so high in antioxidants and just planted two more. I also planted Goji berry bushes. Goji berries supposedly have the highest antioxidant properties, even more than blueberries. I suppose I'm trying to ward off any potential cancer since I've already burned badly in the past, you know, back in my youth when I was invincible.

I hope you get some great weather on your days off very soon! We've had terrific weather, then rainy weather, then it starts all over again. I'm afraid we're going to have another exceptionally rainy Spring, just like last year. I just hope my garden doesn't wash away like it did last year. I have a HUGE garden planned for this year. It's going to take a lot of work and I'd just sit down and cry if I saw it all being drowned by too much rain. But, at least it isn't snow, right?

I think I am lucky because I have light freckles that only some out when I am very brown which hardly ever happens. I can imagine how aggravating it is when you hear that statement over an over. At school, one of my friends was covered in freckles, very dark and thickly laid out. She had dark brown hair and blue eyes which I thought went well with her freckles but she hated them a she was rarely without some even in winter.

My freckles pretty much disappear in the Winter. They only come out when I spend a lot of time out in the sun, and they aren't very dark, thank goodness! Still, they're dark enough to make some men want to connect them. Actually, I think connecting the dots is their way of leading up to something else. Ah, men.

Congrats on finally being able to get in the Garden. It feels so good doesn't it? I am happy for you because I know just how you feel out there. For me, there is never enough hours in one day when I am happily getting plants in, moved and new soil added to the beds. I love it as I am sure you do too! Yippie. I got my first plants in today that I started from seed. The Zinnias. Well, I haven't got freckles. So no one has ever told me that they'd like to connect my dots. I am the kind that tans easily, sorry bout that. I would like to suggest that you get yourself a nice cotton sun hat to wear in the garden. Those fishing ones are great because they have the snaps on the sides so you can snap them up. makes it more comfortable. I usually wear a ball cap but this is to keep the wispy hairs from my pony tail, falling down around my face. Since you are fair skinned, you must protect you it as well as your head. Sunstroke is not fun and because of your fair complexion, you could get hit with it easily. Take care of yourself out there and have fun! Happy Gardening.
