Have you ever been in a bad accident?

I was in a car accident about twenty five years ago that was fatal for my boyfriend. The car went out of control in a cloud burst and left the road. I was thrown from the car and he got a brain stem injury from the chrom trim on a the convertable top of the stingray. I had a bad cut on the head and was knocked out. A person who lived in the area heard the crash and called Perimedics. I was at my boyfriends side for nine days until he had a cardiac arrest and died. I was left with just a head injury that wasn't permanent. Then about ten years later I over corrected on a hill and had an accident with my friend in the car. I got another head injury in the same exact place as the previous one. My friends knees were smashed up against the glove compartment and they still bother her to this day. Ofcourse I felt horrible and they were both very traumatic times for me. I wonder if any members on here have had similar occurences. Did you lose important people in your lives? How did you deal with it and how long did it take you to move on?

u've been through a really tough time.. not just a single accident,, u had two tragic accidents... in my story i had a an accident but luckily i survived and just had a minor thumb fracture of my right foot.. it was fractured from the joint... i was coming back from my university on my bike and just when i came out from the main gate, i pulled the accelerator and after 150 meters there is a turn and i did'nt slow my bike and when i was on the turn i saw another bike coming from the front and a big vagon after that.. when i just came near to them i did'nt apply brakes and got unconscious and after that i dont remember what happened... when i opened my eyes i saw that i am somewhere out from my house... at that time i was thinking that where am i, i was in my home sleeping.. that was the thinking of my mind.. i didnt know that i was in university and had an accident when i was going back home.. a person told me that u had an accident and you got unconscious.. then a friend of mine came to me and picked me up and carried me to the university bus... and then to the hospital.. i was really lucky that i survived whereas the speed of my bike was close to 80km/h and i didnt apply brakes also..

That was years ago. Back in the mid 80's. It was a bad time. Why didn't you apply your brakes? I am glad you came out okay. Funny how the brain works to protect us thinking wise. We survived for a reason is what I believe.

so sorry friend. ive never been in that bad of an accident. thank God i was in one 20yrs ago on the way to pick up my son from school. luckily i was only going 20 miles an hour as i was in a school zone. a guy pulled right out of his driveway without looking. i tried to hit the brake but it was to late. smashed my whole front of the car and i bumped my head on the steering wheel. i was so worried my son would get out school and no one there that i got a ride 2 blocks over to pick him up while the cops were on the way. problem is, i didnt go to the doctor till a week went by with headaches. it seems i had a small concussion. i only got blue book second hand money for the car. not enough to buy another one. it was like usual in my life. it was only myself and my small son, so had no one to advise me how to proceed. worst of all was my fear of driving from that point on. how do you get back in and keep driving?

Thank you! Concussions can be very serious! I can see why you have a fear of driving now. So sorry.

I am so sorry to hear that hun, you must have been devastated. Fortunately I haven't been in a bad accident, although I did come off a motor bike when I was a lot younger, and damaged my lower spine. However, just before Christmas I heard that a good friend of mine had been hit by a train and killed instantly. I was shocked and deeply upset at the time, and still think about him even now. It takes time to grieve and more time to let the hurt heal.

Sorry to hear about your friend. How horrible! And the motorcycle damaged your lower spine yet you don't catagorize it as bad. Interesting. Yes, it does take time to grieve. Learn to live without them.

I have been in a couple of pretty bad accidents but none as bad as yours. I can not imagine having went through losing someone in a crash that I was involved in too. I can not even imagine at what point someone moves on. I did know someone once that lost a fiance in a crash and had to go to court for vehicular homicide. I don't know the circumstances behind it but I'm sure they were very sad.

Glad you are okay. I often wonder about Mark and what his life would have been like had he lived and what would have transpired between us. The vehicular homicide case must have been devistating. Very sad indeed! It is interesting(?) how many people have had this happen to them in some form.

Hi Celticeagle, I have not been in a super serious accident, but when I was 17 my friend and I were driving on icy roads in Michigan when she got a blow-out on a rear tire. The car started swerving and we ran off the road and hit a telephone poll. Luckily, the car wasn't going that fast. I braced myself for impact by putting my leg up against the dash. The impact made a cut below my knee even though my pants were not cut. I can only imagine how horrible a loss that tragic could be. I've been scared of driving on icy roads since that day. I guess it's good I live in a warm climate now.

You were very lucky! It could have been alot worse. This is one reason why I won't let young kids drive by themselves or have cars until they have shown themselves to be good drivers. I take no chances. Even a cut on the knee.

Well, you were lucky! Good idea to follow safety rules. You don't want to lose an arm.

I have been spared the trauma of a serious car accident. It takes a long time to move on from any loss, and the double head injury in one place cannot have been easy.I am sure many people on the Lot have had serious car accidents. We take our lives in our hands just about any time we get behind the wheel.

i had one about 10 years ago with a motorcycle. but good thing it is not that bad. i was heading for the province at about 5 in the afternoon. while driving, i reached the darkness and suddenly, my headlight broke. i was driving without lights and it's only the signals that i have or the lights from vehicles behind me. i don't know what happened, i slipped on the road, i crashed. fortunately, i only suffered minor bruises on the elbow. my dad on the other hand, had his worse accident with a passenger vehicle he was riding, about 15 years ago. i had no clear idea how it happened because i wasn't there. but i heard that the vehicle turned turtle along the road. it was a worse accident that he happened to be brought in the hospital and confined for days.
