So my daughter (age 3 years) wanted to check out Cinderella II and III for this past weekend movies. I have always avoided these movies because I feel like you shouldn't mess with the classic story! II was actually kind of quirky and funny, III was a little strange and my daughter did not like it when the stepmother was using the "bad" magic. Not bad, but I definitely would not buy either for my collection. What are your opinions on these movies?

I've seen Cinderella II but not part III. The sequel wasn't all that great, it just didn't have that same magic as the original. I think that goes for all of those Disney sequels. I don't really recall liking any of them as much as the original. I just feel that the original had great endings with the whole happily ever after deal. Continuing the story with sequels kind of takes away from that perfect ending. So, I'd watch the sequels but they aren't top priority for my collection.

Oh I know how you feel, I have seen Cinderella II & III too and it was quite 'off' from the real story. I have also seen other Disney movie sequels like Beauty and the Beast 2, The Little Mermaid 2 & 3, etc. Even Pocahontas 2 wasn't as 'neat' as the first one.
I think they do distort our idea on the Fairy Tales, they somewhat connote more on the adulthood of the characters instead of them being fancy and well - a fantasy.
Anyhow, we can't stop these animation-makers from creating these sequels, so I guess the best advice I could give is to just watch the first (or original) first so as you'd truly see what the Fairy Tale was truly meant.
As for collecting, I'd never buy the sequels. I'd rather buy the originals.
