Today is the Global Water Day. Some cities are still suffering from water shortage but some people are still wasting water everyday. I really need to do sth to change the current state. Saving every drops is a basic and I must invoke others' sense of water saving. I will let others know the water resource is limited and saving water actrully means saving others' life and the world. Perhaps the water is enough for us, but how about the next generation? So I ask for your strategies for saving water in the world.

There are some strategies to save water, just to list a few:
- buy a toilet that recycles that water used to wash your hands. It has a connection from the sink to the toilet's tank, so you can flush down the toilet the used water.
- make showers, not bath; it takes much less water.
- wash your car with steam (there are places that provide that).
Every big change starts with the small things, like individuals beginning to change the everyday habits, until it becomes a standard of living for all. This is how manufacturers recently changed incandescent light bulbs to fluorescent ones which are more economic.
The idea is that the changes in society are more efficient if driven from people to government and not the other way around.

Here's a practical way to do it: it starts with information; people realize the and commit to the thing; marketers study client's needs; manufacturers consider marketer's recommendation and start developing new products to meet customer's needs; new goods are sold more and more; a standard is achieved; regulations adapt to the new thing.
People can actually rule this whole "development process" but it all comes down to information...if information is effective and of good quality, then the whole loop is more likely to be closed.

Really wisdom comments on this issue. To use the water circularly is the basic approach to save water. However, what's more important is to invoke human's sense of protecting the enviorment. And you have mentioned a strategy very practical that driving the sense from people to government instead of the other way.
Just a furthur discussion, now the issue has broken to driving sense of enviormental protection, then how to achive it?

Dutch people use 2.3 million liter water per year. Yet I don't think we can save much water. People don't give much about the environment. I think that's partially caused by all the errors made by leading environmental researchers but also by the lack of willingness to spend more money on products that are produced with less information. The manufacturer of these water wasting products should also be more sincere about the environmental resources they use in producing those goods. Only then can we make a well-weighed decision when purchasing.
A more rigorous step would be using ground water instead of drinking water for showering. I did hear though that it does not feel quite as good as drinking water and there is a potential hazard in people who yet drink the possibly contaminated water.

Hi, enix!
The most common wastes are a little drip that isn't repaired, or automatic sprinkler systems that sew forth their huge amounts of water, even if it's raining! They seldom need to be used as often as they are.

Individual awareness is the only way one can save water and until that happens one has to be ready to face the calamity of water shortage. It is beyond me to think why people are not conscious about the need to conserve water. I am quite satisfied with the way water is managed in our house. Bathing from the bucket, directing used water from the bathroom, washing machine, wash basin, etc to the trees and such other methods that ensures proper usage of water.

I like saving water also. At my sinks I place a small tub or sometype of container to catch the water then use it to flush the toilet or take it outside to water the plants. We also catch the rain water to be used for watering plants and washing clothes, or to shower with. I like taking baths with a shower bag. Place the bag in direct sunlight to heat up then shower with it, but be careful it can burn if it gets too hot. always try to catch the water to be used more then once. You can even have a garden in pots and use the run off water from this to rewater the next day.
