I was on one of my other eLists & someone was talking about starting a pleated log cabin quilt. I'd never heard of it before so I searched it (using MyLot, of course :) & it is really an interesting pattern. Has anyone tried it? It sure looks like a good way to use up scraps of fabric...

I actually had to research this myself but it does look really nice. I will have to try it and see if it is easy to do. We have plenty of fabric. My child the designer, lol is constantly trying to make things as original as she can, she puts her personal touch in a lot of her clothing.

Who knows? You may have a future fashion designer on your hands. How old is she? Does she use your sewing machine or does she have her own? When I was young, my mother wouldn't let me touch hers. Then I took classes & bullied her into letting me use it. I ended up using it a lot more than she ever dreamed of.

No she has help from me lol when it comes to sewing. I am scared since she is grade school. She just has a knack for what she wants it to look. She will sketch, cut, and decorate to her taste. She will use fabric glue. i am scared to let her use one to tell truth. May be classes later. I encourage the best I can . But I can only do so much. Sewing i s not my talent.

They do have those Singer sewing machines that are made just for children to learn on. They are battery operated so they don't have enough power to pierce a finger or anything, but they do sew well. I gave one to my niece a couple years ago, and when her grandmother was giving up her zigzag machine, she gave it to my niece. I don't think she uses it much anymore. The novelty has worn off, I guess.
