How much do you actually like your work colleagues?

Are they just people you feel you have to tolerate because you have to work with them or do you care about them as people? Is yours a friendly workplace? I am very lucky as there is no-one that I dislike working with in my current job. Obviously, there are some I like better than others but, that's natural I think. I had been on sick leave for a few weeks and went back today. Every one of my colleagues on the same shift asked how I was, most said they'd missed me and were glad I was back & 4 hugged me. I know these sort of pleasantries and gestures are often faked out of obligation but they all came across as genuine and it was a good feeling to know that people care. I was equally pleased that another colleague who had been ill prior to my sick leave had recovered and returned.

I've worked at a major university for 14 years. I've had 4 different positions here. In every position but my current one, I had coworkers that would stab you in the back quicker than you could wink your eye. I finally landed in a position that is about as political as one could get, and I hate politics, but I work alone most of the time. I am so much more relaxed and comfortable. I think it is coworkers that can make your life miserable most of the time in a job. However, the worst boss I ever had was boss number 2 at this university. Her favorite pastime was writing up reprimands, and she played favorites.

Yes, i think colleagues have a major effect on how happy we are at work. My current job is hard work and not well paid but I really miss the friendly banter when I'm off for a week or more. Luckily, my boss is approachable too.

Sorry to hear you were ill.But I am glad you are better. When I was working, I had alot of the workers there that I thought of as friends and after I left they all got me a card and signed it a few weeks later. Which was a nice gesture and very much appreciate. I think I tolerate more people in my family then I ever had to at work.

I still have cards signed by colleagues from when I've left jobs. It is nice to think that people were actually sorry to see you go isnt it? It makes you feel that you were appreciated.
