Durian is my favorite fruit of all. I know it has a strong smell. Some would like to shake it and add milk and sugar. Some include it in ice cream and cakes, Some also would like to have a durian candy only rather than the fresh fruit. What about you mylotters how would you like to have the durian? Let me know I want to know your view about my favorite fruits.

Hi ada8may21, when seeing this topic I couldn't help reading the content of it. Yeah, durian is the tropical fruit which I love most. It's so familiar to me for I have been taking this lovely fruit since my childhood. At the moment it's not the durian season yet. before replying I try to mylot search this fruit online. Wow, there are lots of pictures about the attractive appearance as well as the delicious flesh of them.
When growing senior I'm rather picky when picking durian. I prefer quality fruits with creamy flesh like D24, Red Prawn, etc. Of course the price are relative expensive as well. I like eating natural freshly durian and feel reluctant to take any food which are processed from durian like ice cream, candy, cake, ....
Happy posting

We are from different country that's why we have durians in different species. There are still some famous quality durian with unique names I'm from Malaysia and durians from my neighbor country, Thailand are available here as well. The are mostly fruits in rather bigger sizes of different breed. I was told that the ripe fruits are plucked from tree so it has rather faint smell. Durians in the orchard here usually fall automatically when they are ripe enough. Therefore we can get the pungent smell easily. I prefer the local products here

Hello lkbooi, it was nice hearing from you that you like the durian too. However those variety that you mentioned I never heard of those varieties. Are those varieties coming from Thailand. Here in Philippines particular in Davao City its Durian season that is why its time for me to enjoy the fruit. Same with you I also like eating the fresh fruit than the one processed. I only ate processed if the prices of the durian is really high rocketing..

Yeahhh thats what I also thought because we are different countries so our variety names differs from one another. Exactly if the durian fruits is already ripe it will just fall from the trees. That is why its dangerous for a farmer to roam around his farm especially if its harvesting time because it might just fall.

Hi ada8may21,
I love durian. It is my favorite fruit. It is the most famous fruit in South East Asia region. I think Thailand durian is the best in quality because they have their research and development department concentrate on fruits R&D. That's why they become the most famous fruits exporter in this region.
At my place, they made a porridge from durian and "tempoyak", a traditional food especially in Perak. It want be eaten with rice.
In my hometown, durian is the most expensive fruits you can have. One kilogram of durian is about RM7.00 (USD1 = RM 3.50), and you can get the price because it is durian season. They usually sold it much higher if it is off season. They usually bought it from peninsular Malaysia or Thailand.

Hello Akuler, that would be nice to hear that you also like the durian. That's what I also believe that Thailand produces the best durian. However I still haven't try to taste it. I am here in Philippines so its only from the Philippines that I've just tasted. I would also like to try the porridge you have, I haven't try that one. Can you teach me how to do it and let me see if I like it.

i can't recall how the fruit tastes. I recall eating it when i was small, but that was a very long time ago. I think i was just a toddler then. A lot find the smell of this fruit disgusting but it's not to me. What i consider disgusting about it is the price. This fruit is sooo expensive that i can already buy a lot of other fruits for the price of a small durian. So i'd rather settle for candies, not only it's sweet it smells good too.

it would be good if they can at least slice a couple of hundred from the current price tag because majority of the weight of the fruit only comes from its armor . I think the cheapest durian you get is already 200 hundred pesos and that's a small one. Just imagine how much the price of a big one.

Ohh yeah your very right, but here in our area especially if its season time its so cheap it would low down to as much as 30 pesos per kilo so we can buy the whole durian for only 60 pesos. So if you have a chance why not to out place if its season and enjoy the fruit of durian all over the corner in the city.

I can feel why you think the price is disgusting everyone of us now are really keen of the prices that we are buying, Yes its true that this fruit its really expensive because its rare and only few places can produce and cultivate this kind of fruits. However durian candies is also a good choice its handy and you can always carry it anytime and anywhere. Thank you for sharing your experience about the durian.

Personally, i loooovve to taste DURIAN! When this fruit come to season, many will be displayed along streets and in groceries ( where this fruit are lovingly wrapped in transparent plastic- to keep the store odor-free). Because it sells high, i back out. all i did was touch it and smell it. I have tasted the durian candy from Davao and i find it delicious. I hope in my next year's vacation in the islands, it will be Durian Season - now that i can afford to get me one, i will not let it pass! and i'll PM you ada8may21, on how it tasted - like it or like it not.

Wooooooowwwwww, i was quite surprised that a lot of you guys love the Durian fruit eventhough its smell according to them but not to me. Anyways just an information tigerlily the season of Durian here in Davao is every March and April so you can find lots of Durian around the corner of the streets and guess what its not that expensive its only about 30 pesos per kilo and sometimes a typical durian will go for 2 kilos only. Then if you really want the big one then that would be around 3 to 4 kilos./... so set your next trip on march or april ok.

It is also one of my favorite fruits too. I live in Canada and so far I have only eaten durians that were frozen which are delicious. But I long to eat a fresh durian, one that wasn't frozen. Maybe one day!
For those that have eaten both, is there a difference in taste?

Hi,
I love to eat durian, but it is my favourite fruit.
Durian is not available for the whole year, only
certain period ,then it will have the DURIAN SEASON.
I always wait till everywhere is flooded with durians, then
i will buy some home.or else, it will be very expensive.
I love to eat those sweet and bitter taste durian and not too soft
type.
The best is to make durian cheesecake. My husband make it once and
tillnow, I still miss the taste. I love it while it is chilled.
It is also yummy to eat chilled durian with rice.
I got to know about this from my mother and after I tried once,
I definitely love it.
IN order not to get heaty after eat durian, use the durian shell and make
some salt water with it,drink it up and sure no sore throat for the next day.
And to get rid off the durian taste in your hand, use the shell
to wash clean your hand.
I tried both methods and they are MAGIC.
I heard from my friend that it is best to eat durian and mangosteen together,
then you won't get heaty. Not sure how true it is as I never try it before.

I actually did not heard about durian cheesecake. I would like also to try that but there is no one making such cheesecake here. I would hope that you could also share how your husband do it. I am a fanatic of any food that is made out of durian fresh fruit.

Ohh really you are from Davao? You've tried the Durian from Thailand, they say they are the one who produced the best durian? But the variety of Tiani for me is not that good. I like Puyat variety of Durian. So probably you enjoy Durian now since its the season of durian today or this month until next month

Durian is also my family's favorite fruit except me. I can't bear its strong smell although it looks delicious. However I think it's OK if I try a durian candy rather than the fresh durian. I love jackfruit. It looks similar durian but it has an good taste. In my country Vietnam, jackfruit is good to eat but many people prefer Thailand jackfruit. Have you ever eaten them?

I'm sorry but I really am not fond of durian. I hate the smell and the taste as well. I'd rather have apples and bananas. They're my two most frequently eaten fruits. And it's easy to find them, almost everywhere they can be found and they're readily eaten. Well, people differ in taste and preference, so, if durian is really your fave fruit, then so be it :) HAppy mylotting!
