What Type of Music Soothes Your Soul?

Being a voice and piano professor for over 26 years, i had quite an exposure to many types of music. I love jazz though, i seem to have a preference to music of the 80s. Artists i love to listen to are Seawind, Angela Bofil Patti Austin, Sergio Mendes, Marilyn Scott,Manhattan Transfer, also branching out to wonderful people like David Benoit, Dave Grusin, Eumir Deodate, Chuck Mangione, David Foster....Early Klugh,Caldera, George Duke, and the younger generation that included Basia and many many others. But i also loved pop, Whitney Houston was my favorite singer, and Barbra Streisand....Gloria Estefan too. Then broadway musicals gave me a different experience. I loved Ms Saigon, Les Miserables, Sound of Music, King and I, Fiddler on the Roof, Oliver, Phantom of the Opera.....just can't seem to get enough of it! My students learned to express themselves so well thru music, and this helped develop their self confidence.
For me, music that soothes the soul, would be music we could relate to, regardless of era. Doesnt matter if it's a nursery rhyme or just a part of a love song, anything that touches you deep within, brings back good or sad memories, makes you shed a tear or makes you laugh, makes you feel that life is worth living over and over again....that type of music is worth listening to......

For me it depends on what mood I'm in. If I am in a contemplative mood, it's new age/electronica or christian...when I am in a good mood it usually rock/classic rock.

Yep. Music calms even the savage beast they say. Well, aside from music preferences, I think mood also dictates the type of music you tend to listen. I like jazz too. Chuck M., David Benoit, Chet Atkins, Dave Grusin, Sadao Watanabe, Yanni, etc. They are so cool, its like they are massaging your brain. Party mood, I'd like to listen to RnB. Boyz2Men, Akon, Chris Brown, are good artists to up your melody. Then there's alternative rock. Nothing beats those rebelious grunge days.

i also love jazz too! i love the classic jazz from the early 20th century as well as big band music. i also love hillsong united and other Christian artists. i also love classical (when i am really tired or not feeling well, this is what i listen to!) if i am in a good mood and feeling ok, i listen to top 40 with my daughters.

Music which is mellow and having clear overtones preferred to heavy metal rock and mind blowing extravaganza.

Jazz, rock n' roll, some ambient and some heavy metal is capable to sooth my soul haha
Depends too much on the day, on my mood and what happened in my day and things like this. But normally my type of musics I listen to sooth my soul is those.

I always have music playing in the hosue and in the car. I am a old rocker so for me I get a kick out of my classic rock, metal and goth tracks. However, I am equally happy to listen quietly to some selected classics, I am currently playing some classic Spanish guitar

the music that sarach mclachlan and tori amos creates. .it just soothes my soul. .the way they arrange everything on each song that they make. .I also love Panic at the Disco and Fall Out Boy. The vocals stands out and the arrangement is very good as well..
