Do you scold your dogs/cats when they have done something wrong?

I just did! I scolded my cat Pinky a while ago because one of her sister’s kitten almost got drowned in a pale of water!..she took one the kittens then accidentally dropped it! Good thing is that I’m just near them and I heard the pitiful meow of the poor kitty..
I took the kitten and pressed her chest while she cough out the water she had accidentally swallowed. Then I damped her body with cloth and then I returned her to her mom Blacky..
While doing all that that Pinky keeps on meowing and meowing to me as if she’s telling me what had happened and confessing that everything was her fault and she doesn’t mean to hurt the kitten..I scolded her then it seemed that she understands it! She went to the cat’s house and licked the wet kitty together with his mom..lol =)
I believe that scolding them when they did something bad develops their sense of discipline.
Share your pets naughty stories and how you deal with them..=)

I have a pair of lovebirds, a pair of chicken, six turtles and of course a dog. Before I was not so close to our dog, his name is Snoop, but every time I came from work he's the first to always welcome me.So our bonding grows in time and at present I see to it that he is always taken cared by my ever loving wife and kids. Before, I was not so kind with dogs, I outright spank and scold them when they have done wrong, usually biting things like slippers, shoes and also harming the flower plants but now I do still scold them but in a manner that as if he is my youngest son. Dogs I observed always want to impressed us but in a manner that sometimes unfortunately annoyed us.

Lol I'm very much happy to hear that! Yeah it's really a very big responsibility to have one..it doesn't take a lifetime of commitment though so treasure the time that you have Snoop in your family and be happy always..=)
I'm sure that you are and will always be the best master and father for Snoop..Good luck and God Bless to you all..=)

I'm happy to inform you that I patting Snoop in the head NOW. I do agree, pets do always want to please us but sometimes we can't understand them. Having a pet is time consuming and needs great love on our part. Pets will be miserable and will die and you'll cry later if we don't do our obligation as master, as a friend, as a brother and as parent.

I have my dogs inside the house. I trained them to get out of the house if they want to pee or poop. If i get out of the house and no one lets them out for poo and pee time, i leave a newspaper for them to piss on. But if i were in the house and they pee or poop, i scold them to help them get trained. I love it when they want to pee or poop, they stay close to the door and sit their or bark for some time as if they are begging until i open it for them.

Hi, I disagree, I think your wasting your time scolding them. I find when they are doing something wrong, they have their own reason. Its up to us to figure out what they are trying to tell us. Your kitty is sending you a message ! Mommy cats are very protective about their babies. When they are moving them around its generally because they think they are not in a safe place. Do you have other pets who may be making her feel insecure ? Or perhaps they are in a high traffic area of the house. When we had mommies and kittens we found they like a quite and secluded place for them, like a box in a closet, or even a spot under a staircase. They really need the privacy and security. Thank God you were there to help in this instance, you certainly did the right thing ! Please don,t think I,m scolding you, but animals don,t really understand why we yell. They usually have a reason when they are acting out. I hope this helps, I know you really love your kitties !

The story is that she was stealing the baby from her sister because she thought that it was hers!..but the kitty slipped from her mouth then fell into the water..it's an accident though but she keeps on doing that stealing part even before that incident..
The mom and the kitties have their own house and the place is secluded of course..but I agree with the threat part though..
But there are also a lots of incidences that may justify that somehow pets can comprehend what message we want to convey with them..not literally understands each word that we say though..but they can really feel it..the gestures..the tone..I think that's the reason why dogs can be trained as well
Yeah I'm really lucky to saved that poor kitty..and really love them so much..=)
Thanks for sharing!=)

Since it was an accident, I probably would not have scolded her. She meant well if she was carrying her which they often do just when they are taking care of them. But I would show my worry about how she fell in the water.
I do scold once in a very small while if my kitty has a very random kissing me and asking me to pet her, but suddenly bites or claws me and breaks teh skin. I don't yell out loud, but make sure she can see how my face is very angry, shocked, and I look at her scoldingly, then walk away. I can tell she knows she did something wrong.

Yeah It was a rush for me that time..well I guess I shouldn't have scolded her that much..but she is pretty much stubborn cute cat lol..that's not the first time she did that..=)
Wow how cute-I also want to be kissed by one! Yeah they get so excited at times that they suddenly bite or scratch you lol..=)

Nice response. :o) To make them trust us more, we have to be kind and respectful as they are to us.
I think the sudden bites must be some have sensitive areas. Like one of our kitties, she just flops over onto her back so you can scrub her tummy with your fingers (not w/ water!). And she just loves it. If you hit a place that hurts her perhaps or tender, then she will give a little meow, and so I take my hand away, but she rolls over for me to scracth another place). Never uses claws.
But other kitty who is such a darling, is the one who is very dominant and lets you know when she ain't happy!

I always scold my dog, and he always makes this sad eyes that makes me melt, but I still try to tell him if he's done something wrong. I think he understands it,specially if it's my dad is scolding him, cause if it's my dog, he would follow what my dad is telling him to do, and he would just go to a corner and lay there. hahahaha.

hello there.
I have a very naughty and playful, very energetic dog right now and he's kinda spoiled. But he does follow my commands, sometimes he just go beyond what he can do so I have to scold him. I think he can't understand human language that's why we still have to train them to follow us, so when I scold him when he does something naughty, I tend to raise my voice so that he will know that I am mad. He seems to understand me whenever I scold him and he always makes sure he won't so it again. Sometimes I try to hurt him but those big puppy eyes are just a killer, so i just kiss and hug him instead, grrr. i love him so much tho.

My cat, Tommy, pees where ever he wants to in my house. What should I do? Should I not yell at him? By the way, he poops in the litter box, but he refuses to pee there. I have tried to forgive him the first few times for it, but it is getting to the point where I am losing my patience with the cat. My other three cats are good cats, they do everything in the litter box, so why can't Tommy? Help me! Where did I go wrong with this cat?

Lol..according to one of our mylotters water is the best tool for disciplining cats..and according to another one you should scold them while they're doing their act so they will not get confused..
So let's make some experiment! Try to caught him doing the act then spray him with a little water..then try to scold him a little bit yeah..let's see if it will work..I just wish that it will..=)
Thank you very much for sharing hope that it'll be a success for Tommy good luck!=)

but my big crazy dog, yeah when i went out to feed his crazy butt he jumped at me and tried to bite me. so i punched him in the face and didnt feed him for two days, but the next time i came out to feed him he sat down..

Oh wow poor dog got punched in the face!lol..well there different types of dogs some are nice, some are playful but there are also aggressive one like your dog I should say..I cannot blame you for punching him because of the rush you felt and I know that it's really scary to be in that situation..
Please be cautious all the time when feeding or by just playing with him especially your kids who can hardly defend themselves..I mean dogs are lovable creatures I know but they still have these animal instinct correct so please be careful always..=)
Thank you very much for sharing..=)

Wow! I envy you I always want to have a golden retriever with me!=) Disciplining them when there are still young is better than when they're older, because of the naughty habits that they have developed through the years..but again it depens on how you correct them still..=)
Your dog is really smart. I'm happy for you to have one..=)

Hi! I have a pet can too! I also scold her when she's being too naughty, like scratching things everywhere. She's really playful and cut and all, but there's a limit to it! I can't blame her really, she's way too precious to me, so I jut slightly flick on her head and say that you're not suppose to do this(or that). She would listen and be obedient but after a few hours, she'll be back to being playful. By that time, I would also play with her. ^_^

Im very much guilty of the same action most of the time i scold my cats too for being to noisy when im sleeping or playing around too much while on my bed. But the thing is after i talk to them or scold them just like a small kid i make sure that i play with them in return so that they wont be scared of me .My cousin whose a vet told me its not good for me to treat cats too domestically because that's not their nature but the thing is i already fell in love with the thought of me talking and sometimes scolding my pets and in return as i can see and feel that they appreciate the way im treating them . Its just that we really cant compromise when its time for me to bathe them its like judgment day for them ;)

Lol I agree it's like you're gonna skinned them alive when bath time comes =) And when you run them with water they are meowing like crazy..I even do get scratches from them lol..
Yeah there are times when they really can't help playing around and all you can do is yell at them lol..but the good thing is we just want to discipline them and not really harm them right..yet we still end up scratching their favorite parts and babying them whew...=)
I agree! I can't stop falling in love with them as well..=)

This is my first context in this forum.
I love dogs.So does my father.
But I always see my father scolds and even kick the dogs, certainly when they eat the foods in the cupboard. And now ,even if they heard my father`s voise ,they will be scared.
One special story is that the little dog always cann`t be selfcontroled ,for it didn`t stop eatting even it is full! And father will say you mustn`t give it any food ,otherwize it will die of these food@!
I know father is right ,as it is the same with the care of a child. We cann`t spoil a child?

Wow welcome acereal!Hope that you will enjoy your stay here in mylot..=)
Our family loves dogs too and we've had so many dogs with different kinds of personalities and behavior. We even have a dog like yours who doesn't seem to have a full stomach and will try eat everything. I was young then and my grandfather is the one scolding him..I also observed that they developed their sense of fear to someone that is usually scolding and beating them..
I know that it is good to discipline dogs or cats but overdoing it can create bad effects to the them..discipline them in the right way for they are like person with feelings..just let them know that you care for them and love them afterward..don't forget to reward them for every good deed that they've done as well..=)
Thank you for sharing! See ya around=)

Moomin is an absolutely little rogue sometimes, he can open the fridge door and help himself to food, he can get his collar off and lose it, he's been caught making a bed on my best velvet dress, and no matter how many times he gets caught and told off, he turns his eyes on me and apologises - lol

I scolded my dog Bobo but then I get regret coz animals doesn't seem to understand what I am talking about. It's just the tones that he hear from me.
I also beat him with a stick when he poohs at my slippers or flower pots.

Poor Bobo!!! Well I guess dogs are different from cats..they somehow understand what we are telling them..they also seem to interact with our hand languages..and what's really amazing is that they know what you feel towards them!
I have seen videos of trained and smart dogs who can do tricks, the way they respond to each and every command makes me think that they can really comprehend what people are saying..I remember a dog who can do math!!-which is incredible for me..=)
Please when you beat Bobo again ( not too hard pls )try to make up with him afterward..so he will realize that you just want to discipline him =)
Thanks for sharing! =)

Hahaha, that's cute! Your cat is confessing
There was one time when our male cat Blackie was attacking his little brother Tim-tim. Tim-tim was a lot smaller and he really got hurt badly. I was scolding Blackie and I can't really stop them. I just threw water at them.
There was another time when my cat Git-git did something, I forgot what it was. I scolded at her and I kind of spanked her a little. ^.^'

Yeah she's really really cute her meow was very loud but she did something wrong so enough with the cuteness for the meantime LOL..=) (it was really heart breaking!)
Yeah they are really afraid of water! but the good thing about my cats is that they never fought or hurt each each other when they are playing..=)
But my two male dogs Bonbon and Dodoy, they often fight just by seeing each other..weird dogs lol..the funny side of it is that after they fought they have injuries like one can hardly walk and the other one looses almost all his hair because of the biting stuff lol..but still I love them so much..=)
Poor Git-git..she just got spanked..lol..Thanks for sharing=)

I have 4 dogs and 2 cats along with 4 children. My pets do get scolded when they do something wrong. I have 2 puppies that are having a terrible time with housebreaking. They get scolded when they go to the bathroom in the house. I have an 8 year old mixed breed dog that likes to get into the cupboards and take food. He gets scolded for eating our food. He will get into stuff and then leave the empty wrappers on the kitchen or living room floor. As soon as I pick up the wrappers he knows that he is in trouble. My cats also get scolded when they misbehave. They all seem to know when I am scolding them and seem to know that they have done something wrong.

Yes, I scold my cats but I usually try to do it in a loving manner but anyone who has cats or pets know that they can definitely be like children. They don't always want to change bad behavior.
If my cat is doing something that is dangerous, to himself or another pet etc I usually discipline him or her by spraying them with water.
I actually read that cats cannot distinguish bad or good attention. They just love attention and will continue to exhibit bad behavior if they see that they get attention from it. So you may be encouraging your cat when you yell at them or show a lot of emotion when they're being bad.
Instead when you spray them they remember that because they don't like water. This teaches them to associate the act with the water and they less likely to do it again.

Yes I agree especially when they are grown up and get used to a certain bad habit it's really hard to correct their behavior..stubborn cat lol
I see so water is the best tool to discipline cats..I'll try to spray a little of it when they've done something wrong again..I hope that they won't hate me for that will they???well I hope not..=)
Thank you very much for spraying I mean sharing =)
