Mozilla Firefox is not living up to expectation?

I have been using Mozilla Firefox since its birth but lately I have been experiencing problems with this browser. It is always giving me troubles like not responding or in the midst of my surfing the net it suddenly freezes. I have been trying to get to the roots of the problems but to no success. After reading through some of the discussions here I found out that many mylotters have switched to Opera and giving thumbs-up for this new browser. Out of curiosity and getting fed-up with the constant freezing in mozilla firefox, I downloaded Opera and experimented using it. Yes, I am very pleased with the performance of Opera. Not only it is trouble free, it is faster than firefox. I appreciate if someone can point out to me where I went wrong with my mozilla firefox and how to stop it from not responding. Have you tried out using Opera and do you find it better than Firefox?

Mozilla is good for net browsing. But Firefox Setup 3.0.3 is far batter then Firefox Setup 3.5.1 . I have noticed that latest version is slower and some problems like broken link appears. Opera is another good browsing software. Another browsing software is Safari304BetaSetup.

I never really know the real working of each browser. I am glad you gave a little explanation here which add up to my lack of knowledge about all the available browsers that we can choose from. I am on a trail run with Opera and looks like it is going to work well with me. I need something fast so I can respond to discussions here without interruptions.

Heilo my friend zandi458 JI,
We all have something or the other problems. Right after myLot was up-graded and armed with many facilities, I felt that opening of various windows takes too much time and similarly , other members too observed. At present there are more that 400 alert messages in my mail box, which I have to respond. Why it is slow. I am not able to come to route cause. May be, I may require yet better speed in my BB connection. I have BB with 256 kbps. What you think, is it sufficient. Please do take my personnel greetings for 25th Feb.
May God bless YOu and have a great time.

Hello my friend zandi458 Ji,
So nice of you for your immediate response , however, I am responding now only. It is very true, that we all have to co-up with the situation under many fronts. At present, I am having IE-6, and as such it is very slow. Also my lap-top is 7 years old and i am always remunded by experts that i have to part with as it is out-dated, or change RAM capacity, but I am just unable to discard out-rightly , else I have to think about my hubby...ha..ha... take care.
May God bless You and have a great time.

The new 3.6 version drove me nutso! I had nothing but problems with it, so I got it off my computer and went back to the 3.5 (latest but can't remember the point after 5) version and it is back to normal. They made the 3.6 to work better with new windows 7 I had heard, but mine is an xp so maybe that is why I had trouble with it. I have used opera but don't find it faster than fox for me? I like it ok, but have always gone back to fox. more add ons to use, etc for me anyway. good luck with it all!

I think we need to choose the right version for our computer. I have used opera for a while, like it but jump to chrome. After working for a while with chrome it started to create problems. Now I reinstall firefox minus add ons. I find it working well now. I still prefer firefox as it is so convenient.

Hi, zandi458. I am having problems with not responding and page freezes too. But I never really thought that it was my browser that was causing this problem. I thought that it was this laptop system that was causing these constant errors. I have not tried using Opera because I have never heard of this browser before. If Firefox continues to give me problems then I will have no choice but to go along with Opera. I am tired of logging off and then having to log right back on because of my page freezing up.

hi zandi I have firefox but have not had it freezing on me, I think its a tad slower than my old IE but I like it better than IE also you can sometimes go into tools and options and clean out the history cache and the cookies and firefox will run better. also I find that when my AVG9 is running it slows firefox down something fierce so I set it to run when I am at dinner.so am pretty happy with firefox right now. cleaning cookies and the history cache usually will speed up firefox.

With the present slowness and crushing I am forever doing the cleaning but it will come back to the same old story when we are stay a little longer surfing. I think it is the AVG9 as you said is causing it to run slower. But I find Opera a lot better than firefox.

I've been having problems with firefox lately. It's been freezing, or just plain slow. It's quite annoying. I don't know if I need to update it or if there is another problem. One thing that annoys me the most is that it used to remember what sites were open if firefox suddenly crashed. Mine no longer does that. It drives me crazy.

It s all about what site creators/owners and how much effort they put into making everything work with all browsers out there.. firefox, chrome, Ie, opera whatever... i find it kinda snoby to call one better then the other since all do pretty much the same... it s a matter of taste and it should stay this way. There are differences but let s be real it s not "miles away"... (performance). there is nothing wrong with your browser just a bad time for it :) give it some time or change it :P

I did have this problem about a year ago with Firefox after using it trouble free for quite a while. I then changed to Flock, which is another Mozilla browser and it was good for a while, but then I started having freezing problems again.
Then my computer crashed and I lost Windows. Instead of installing a new blank version of Windows again as my operating system, I decided to go down the freeware route so I installed Kubuntu as my operating system. This has it's challenges to learn, as it is nothing like Windows. You have to install what you want yourself as it does not come loaded with lots of generic applications that you will never use like Windows does.
This is good for my computer though as it is much quicker than it ever was on Windows and I never have freezing issues with Firefox anymore. In six months it has not frozen on me once, but beforehand it was a daily occurrence.

I guess I am way behind and never heard of opera.
I used to use firfox but like you I had to quit it.
It wouldn't let me have my graphics for some reason. I do have worries with Internet Explorer stopping in the midst of a page and that makes me mad.
But I am now on a new computer and I did have one page freeze up on me earlier.
I'll give opera a chance and see how it operates.
thanks for the infor.

It is not only you who is out of tune with what is new in the computer world. I am also not up to date and have been relying on firefox to surf the net. Only when I encountered repeated problems with this browser that I began to search for an alternative. I got most of the info from mylot.

I find I get sorta stuck in the mud with things I like and don't follow the trends.
If it ain't broke don't fix it !
I had trouble with firefox so I got rid of it. Internet explorer is better but only a little bit.
but it's the best I intend to deal with at this time.
I just do not have the time to check out something new.
Thanks tho !

Since version 3 Firefox doesn't release correctly its memory. The team made a lot of fixes, and it's better now. I prefer it to Opera for its add-ons that I'm using daily. My Linux netbook has only 1 Mb of RAM, and Firefox was crashing too often : I replaced it last year by SeaMonkey : it's an internet suite build on the same Gecko sources than Firefox for the browser, but it's a lighter version, with less features. I am able to use the same add-ons, and it doesn't crash.
Opera is a very fast browser, but I can't customize it like Firefox/SeaMonkey : there's no accounting for taste !
Have a good day.

Think of it this way:
Firefox = browser packed with loads of features and add-ons, community-powered
IE = simple thing with which you surf the internet
Opera = a browser with good feedback and a small community
In some way, Firefox doesn't need much development. There are lots of add-ons and hundreds of them are created every month. So Firefox is full customisable and is more suitable for the "geeks".
I don't understand why you can't use Firefox properly. I don't encounter problems with it (sometimes I do, but those are trivial). But computers are like that - you wait for a month and then everything works fine again. I haven't used Opera, but I'm sure it's quicker than Firefox. Actually, the start-up time of Firefox is one of the major disadvantages of it but once you have fired it up, everything works lightning fast!

Yes, I do like firefox and I am quite comfortable with all the features available there but it is not working well with my computer. Maybe some of the programs installed are not compatible with firefox. Opera is fast and fuss free. I have no complain so far.
