Giving Back

There is a specific part of my job that I really enjoy. A couple months out of the year, I get to give clients an opportunity to get money back that is owed to them since my company has been holding it for a required period of time according to state laws. All the circumstances leading up to money being held does not concern me; however, my part in this process is sending money back to qualified recipients. It's an honor to me because I feel as though I am helping those people. The money has been theirs from the beginning, but being the one to send money to people is very enjoyable! In order for these clients to receive their money back, all they have to do is sign and return a release letter that I send to them. Over the past several years that I have taken on this role, I have seen some pretty interesting letters! Some of these people take the time to actually write a letter about how grateful they are to be getting back this money. All they really have to do is sign and return the letter, but some of them get pretty creative! I've received a letter in response stating how the recipient was going to spend the money. One particular lady had a set of twins and several other children. Her dishwasher had just died, and she was excited about the money to buy a new one! Another lady had just lost her husband so the refund money was going to provide for funeral expenses. I so enjoy this role for obvious reasons. Have you had the opportunity to send money to people? Please explain your circumstances.

Your job sounds very interesting. I assume you are in an accounting dept of a big establishment... Most people welcome money with much anticipation, who doesn't need one? Specially now money is elusive. These people are like withdrawing their savings account :-) I believe it is truly heart warming to read added notes on your "quit of claim" letter. My experiendce on areas like this is somewhat similar. I worked as a purchaser and i got in contact with salesmen. When its time for payments and their dues are delayed, they always drop by my office and tell me that their checks is not yet ready for pick up. Sometimes i have to help them hurry their payments. The joy and thankfulness one can see on their faces is so heart-warming and makes me glad to be of help. Now this topic makes me miss my salesmen :-(

Yes, I work in the accounting department of my title company. It's very rewarding sending money back to people, but also when I can't return money to them when they call in, it saddens me that I can't help them. It can go either way. Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm sorry that you miss your salesmen. It sounds like you did a great job in helping these people!

i have never had the opportunity to send money to people, but i can imagine how good you must feel to be able to have a part in making others happy! It must feel very rewarding, especially when you get a personalized letter stating how they will be using the money. My husband gets a check twice a year from his company. It is his vacation fund. And from experience, i know how happy we are to be receiving that check!

It's always nice to get money no matter what the circumstances (as long as it really is your money - lol!) The most exciting time I had most recently was almost a year ago now when my husband and I finally sold two of our cars; we had four at the time. It was horrible having two vehicles for each of us. It's not have we'd planned things, but it's like a huge burden was lifted once those cars drove off our lot, and we got cash when we sold both of them, so that was even better. The feeling of putting all that money in the bank was priceless. Then earlier this year, I did our taxes on a snow day because I couldn't get out and go to work, the roads were so bad. We got thousands back in taxes, about the same amount of money as we got selling two used cars, which was really nice. The bigger the chunk of money, the better. I don't mind working hard at my job to draw a nice paycheck either because I know free and unexpected money rarely comes in life.
