Do you think I can be a better writer?

I've always wanted to be a writer but I realize that it's no longer my priority. It seems like writing seems to be boring for me already since I find fashion more convincing. Today, I will be taking placement exam. It's an exam that would help us decide whether we have to choose journalism as our major or educational communication (making layouts, etc.). I'm really confused... Do you think I have the capabilities of becoming one? They say that people belonging to journalism are the intelligent ones so maybe I can't reach to their expectations.

Hello! eLs! Who told you that writing is boring or what made you conclude that being a writer could be boring. It is one of the most interesting vocation and nothing could be more 'creative' then writing, I believe. However, you need to follow your heart rather than your mind, whatever your heart says, you may go for it. I have not come across your talents either your write ups or fashion designing etc., therefore, it is difficult to comments, which would be better for you. Best of Luck!

If you ask me, I think it would be better to study a communication discipline, like the one you mentioned. Because basically, if you learn communication, journalism will be like a walk in the park for you. Journalism is a lot of work ... go in the field, do research, come up with interesting stories and there will be many occasions on which you will not feel satisfaction... simply because you can not always please the public... While if you become a communication expert, your chances will be much wider, you can practice journalism, public relations, professional writer and so on. Just to give you a final argument, if you study journalism they will tell you what to read, while if you'll study communication sciences, you'll read what you want. P.S. Intelligence is needed no matter what you study.

Don't ever doubt yourself, if it's your passion go for it! Do you best on those placement exams! You can almost always do what you set your mind and heart to do. Journalism, well I don't know much about that but I doubt a company would be looking for journalists based on their IQ or GPA Or SAT scores so just have at 'em!

Not really, I have met some journalism graduates who can't even construct a right sentence, or very weak in expressing themselves. Writing is not a matter of choice I believed, it is a unique gift from the very start, molded by experiences and further studies. Writers are born and then being made to be famous or the opposite. In your case, I think writing is not really your line of interest since you still have the doubt after all the years. Just be happy with what you firmly want.

hell0! well, i am really in a doubt, because you said that earlier you have liked to write and wanted to be a writer, but now you think that writing is boring and fashion is the one that concerns you, so that's why i can decide, but if you really think that writing is boring, then I think you can't become a good writer, because the good writer lives and sleeps with his/her works, with the novels, poems, fables that he/she has written and they are all his/her life! and if you don't feel it that way, then you should not try to become one!

In the past, I can say that I really have the heart of a writer but now it seems like I'm enjoying in fashion. I don't know... I'm still confused. They're both different but they're both essential to me.

You must build up your confidence and don't care about what others said. If you really want to be a writer you must practice seriously .There are many ways to practice as writing blog or english forum and try to write poem ,novel or play. There are many vocations you can choose except journalism. Good luck!

I don't see why not? I have always believed you can do anything you want to achieve, as long as you practice. I think mylot is a good start should you want to practice your writing capabilities, the site offers us freedom in ideas and gives us no limit or quota for the number of words. Plus, there are a lot of people here who could react to what you have written. Not to mention that there are ratings that could well measure your ability to write. Further, should you really want to do it professionally, try checking out the best blogs online (just type best blogs on your browser) and you'd see that the ideas of these people are free-flowing and they start writing on what they know or are familiar with. I doubt they'd venture out to something (or an idea) that they have no knowledge about. Perhaps the greatest advice I could give you on this matter is Practice Makes Perfect. Cheers! and Good luck!

I agree... Thanks for the inspiration... I think I'm no longer capable of it because I'm no longer confident that I can do it. Every time I tell my gay friend about this, he would advice me that practice makes permanent and he would ask me if why should I practice. I'm not aware that mylot is counting the number of words that we are typing here... I really envy those mylotters who can write like a novelist or a professional writer. They're so good.
