i think assembled pcs are good when you are aware about the computer technology. but when you are not an expert then you must go for a branded pc, so that you can get the advantage of the better system designed by a company which has its own standards and market value.

Personally i preffer assembled ones. A friend of mine who happens to be a pc expert told me that when you assemble pc's you will be able to pick the best parts that you like depending on the usage of the pc that you like. Just consider the budget that you have when it comes to choosing the right parts too .As to when you buy a branded one there might be some parts that will not meet your standards or will not meet your needs thats why you should go for assembled instead.;)

I prefer assembled PCs, when you buy a branded PC the most times you only pay for "brand" and no for quality, the components that a branded PC uses are exactly the same that you can buy separately, so many branded PC are overpriced a lot, even most branded PC use low quality components and the buyer doesn't notice that.
The software, OS and drivers are perfectly compatible with all assembled PCs, there is no problem with that. I've assembled a lot of PCs and I never had any problem with software, OS or drivers.
Even in a assembled PC you have much more warranty, a branded PC gives generally one year, but some components when you buy it separately offer more warranty time, for example a motherboard, HDD, Processor, power supply, etc, offers each one three years of warranty.
You can build a very powerful PC for a tiny fraction price of a branded one.
Regards.

hi anurag,
Yes assembly is best choice than buying a fully brand one..The reason you specified is also right. There are other advantages too that is in assembled one you will have choice to get one that you like. Configuration also can be upgraded frequently whenever you want. In branded one until the warranty is there you can upgrade to new one..The branded ones are expensive too.. :)

hell0! I prefer the assembled PC, because I know that there are only the parts that I have wanted and also i am sure about their quality, because the branded ones are not that good, they have cheap parts and break down fast! and also the companies lie with the branded ones, they put cheaper part and sell it like a PC with the best parts :(

If you have tight finances, assembled pc is already fine but if you have money to burn, branded pc is the way to go and is the best investment because the brand is trusted and made to last. Warranties are intact as well for several years which is very useful when repairs are needed within warranty period.

seriously assembling your on PC is way much more better than getting a branded PC. Sometimes a branded PC may have a good processor, RAM, hard disk but most of the time the video card....the video cards are important if your an avid gamer. Most branded PC doesn't come with a high performance. But if you assemble your own PC, you can choose what motherboard, processor, amount of RAM and hard disk and most importantly your video card. Plus the computer casing, you can choose a cooler and more stylish design. Moreover you can pick which brand of hardware that you trust. For me i trust ASUS. I think their hardware quality are the best. Oh yea, sometimes assembling your own PC may be cheaper than a branded PC and the spec will be way much more better.

Nearly all the components in a PC are made in China today and very well made they are too. So it makes very little difference if you buy the bits yourself or if you buy a branded PC.
In the bad old days you needed after sales service as the PC often went wrong and components were expensive. I even had a maintenance man come to take my monitor to bits and solder in a new part! Today, with the cost of labour and cheap components that would never happen. You would simply replace it and junk the old one.
Most PCs today have a burn-in before shipping and they will work ok on arrival unless they were dropped en route.
When there is a problem it is often a software problem and the PC manufacturer ducks out of that problem and passes you on to Microsoft, etc.
And talking of Windows, you will always pay more to buy it as a DVD direct rather than pre-installed on a branded PC.
In conclusion, I would save some money by buying a branded PC off the shelf unless you wanted special components to suit your use of the computer.

Before I really appreciated having assembled PCs, because of cost and customizability, but, as I started purchasing branded ones for our office I started appreciating the advantages of a branded PC. I realized how easy it is to look for drivers and the support is much easier to acquire than the assembled ones. The durability of the machine is also very good as compared to the assembled ones.

I personally prefer assembled PCs because you get to have the things that you need. but if budget is not an issue and you want to have a reliable and specific service center you should buy a branded PCs. The thing with those branded PCs is that you are already paying for the label plus the parts, and you might not always find the perfect match for your need and you might tend to buy something that has a feature you don't really need. When I was buying my PC i did consider buying a branded PC but I never found my match and when I decided on to go for assembled I saved a lot and I love my PC which I am using. All of the parts has a warranty and there are a lot of service centers for assembled pc here in our country so it is not quite a problem. So if your in a budget you should always go for a assembled one and if you know nothing about PC parts ask someone who does and if you can't It won't hurt to do a little research before you go buy a PC. So be a smart buyer :)

My desktop is a custom built computer, that my son in law build for me back in 2003. I don't use it per se, as it has the modem, router and printer hooked up to it, but I really don't surf with it or do any of my sites there either. My laptop is a Dell, and I use it everyday. I really do like the computer as it it does everything I need it too, and I like the face, I can sit in my easy chair while I am watch television and posting here in mylot. I had always used my desktop as that is all I had, but once I started used laptops, I have never gone back, and I know I won't either. Laptops are just more convenient is all, and portable. Take care, and have a very good day.

Yes i also prefer to assembled pc..than a branded pc.. because in assembled pc we have getting our own configuration which i needed.. and also get warranty on each part.. but this facility is not available on a branded pc.. because they have their own configuration and you don't change it at the time .. so i prefer assembled one.. have a nice day and keep mylotting always..

i prefer branded pc... because of its performance and compatibility... you dont need to worry about its software... mainly drivers... i've experienced that assembled pc faces problems in every os.. os gets corrupt soon... there is no hardware compatibility... there are many reasons to tell....

assembled pcs is the way to go. you can get more value for your money and more options. You dont need to be an expert, just need a little research. I'm not saying a branded pc is a bad thing but it wont be as good as a custom designed for you can be.
And if you buy a branded pc for warranty purposes you'll need to take the entire machine back. If you got an assembled pc you just take the part that is causing problems and if you can get a temporary one you wont be without a machine. Everytime i had to return something i just put an older part and could continue working.

I too like the idea of assembled pcs as you get to choose what you want inside the pc. I'm a qualified IT Technician myself and I like the idea of building my own pc from scratch! There's a lot of enjoyment as well as a feeling of achievement to be had in this! In terms of a branded pc though I think I would always favour the Dell brand! I've had dealings with them in the past and I found the customer support very helpful. For me personally I just love delving inside a pc and seeing what's what! Also, if you have certain skills like this then you can advise and help others when it comes to making purchasing decisions. Andrew

hi 1anurag1,
I agree with you. I am just not sure which is more expensive between the two. However, I realized it is better to buy parts of a pc separately if you are knowledgeable of the best hardware for each part. And if you have the money then I think it is good also to look for a branded pc.

Hi,lanurag.I prefer assembled PC.Actually ,the PC I used now is a assembled .I don't know much about computer technology,so this one is assembled by my classmates. Well,it ease of use and the most important is that it has high function/price ratio.

When I am in the campus, I preferd assembled pcs and purchased components by myself. I felt much fun from it and proud when running a pc assembled by myself. Now I would rather follow branded pc because of the regular after-sales customer services and I do not have much time on assembling components by myself.
So I conclude that different requirements determined different ways of comsumption.
