Hi lotters now that we are fast approaching Holy Week and Easter is just around the corner I was wondering what person do you admire in The Bible and why? First off I have to say Jesus Christ since He is my Lord and Savior.
This time of year there is another person I think about and that is Peter and his beautiful story.
Peter as you know was one of the disciple's and he was also the one who denied Jesus three times as Jesus was being arrested. I often wonder how did Peter feel once Jesus was beaten, tortured and died on the cross. Was he one of the many who watched? This was his friend who he spent three years with. They were like a family yes we know Jesus healed and forgave. I also think at the end of those days when it was just Jesus and the disciple's did they joke around. Tell stories or reflect on things that happened that day? How guilty did Peter feel after Jesus died. He didn't know Jesus was going to rise again three days later. Jesus told them but none of them understood what He meant. He had to live with the shame of those three days denying his dear friend and someone he loved very much. Because he was afraid of what would happen to him. Peter was thinking of himself and how many times do we put ourselves first.
Next we have Jesus rising and saying go tell the disciples and Peter that I am here. I love the fact Jesus calls Peter by name singling him out. He is letting Peter know He doesn't blame him for the denial. Jesus understood that Peter was scared and wasn't thinking clearly.
We then have the best part when Jesus asks Peter three times does he love Him? Peter answers three times that yes he does love Jesus. Which cancels the fact that Peter denied Him three times.
This is such a beautiful story of love, betrayal, friendship, & most important forgiveness. Add to that Peter is the one who starts up the church. It is a remarkable story and a lot can be learned from it. Peter was just a man a sinner like all of us. Here is someone who denied Jesus but is now in Heaven with Him. A great example for all of us to know that yes we aren't always going to be at our very best. We will fall many times and God will always be there picking us up and getting us back on our feet.
Would love to hear what your thoughts are and what person in The Bible do you admire? What story really touches your heart each and every time you hear it? Any story you read know has a different meaning or you realized something you haven't before?
God Bless & Peace Be With You

I've always been a bit partial to that sentimental guy John, who said "little children love each other".

Good one and yes we can learn a lot from children as well. They are a blessing and at times love a lot better than us adults don't they?

I admire St. Joseph, Jesus's adoptive father. There are few sentences in the Bible which make reference to him but from what it is written he seems to be a great man of faith. Who is the man that is going to accept his girlfriend that is impregnated by another man? He had a vision where an angel of God told Joseph that this is an act of God. If you were instead of him would you believe the angel? What would you do? What you protect Mary or give her to the authorities and that means that she will be punished by being stoned. I think like any other men he would have been confused, puzzled with what was happening to him and his girlfriend. Joseph is a great man of faith because he accepted the Angel's word and protected Jesus as if he was his own son.
In today's world St Joseph is a great example for all Christians to be humble like he was. To have great faith in God, like he did. I am sure he did not see things clearly but an act of faith implies putting all your security into the hands of God.

I guess I'll make it short and sweet, but the four people I most admire in the Bible (besides Jesus of course) are Ruth, Jael, Rahab, and John the Baptist. Each had extraordinary lives, and each showed tremendous faith when they did what God moved them to do.

Yes I also admire John the Baptist who just happened to be Jesus cousin. Terrible way to die though. He did leave his mark in this world for us to learn from.

One of the things that I admire in the Bible are how many of the "holy" men of God are not "holy" but they have their streaks of bad mistakes and God has redeemed them and has even listed them as one of the faithful in the book Hebrews.
Gives me hope that I myself am okay.

Exactly and there are so many besides Peter, Moses, Sampson, David, Saul, etc. All examples of people who have faith, sinned, and were forgiven. I love the prodical (sorry bad speller) son story. Where the son leaves but comes home to the father. How many of us walk away from God but come back and He is waiting for us with His arms wide open. And even some of the women Jesus spoke to the woman at the well, and the woman caught cheating. We just read that gospel last week in church. Are priest asked us where was the man she was cheating with since she was caught in the act. No one mentions what happened to him or why he wasn't brought to Jesus.
We are all going to be okay TJ. Yes it is reassuring that we can be forgiven and that nothing can separate us from God. Though the devil will try very hard to do so. God's love for us and our faith in Him is so much stronger. A bond that can't be broken
God Bless You

Besides, Jesus of all the people whose names are mentioned in the Holy Bible I admire Moses, for "there hath not arisen a prophet since in Israel like unto Moses, whom the HaShem knew face to face" (Deut. 34:10)

Moses is a excellent one he had doubts and was always second guessing. Another very human thing we all do. Someone who sinned but as we found out later when Jesus went up to the mountain and was speaking with Moses and Elijah. We learn even though Moses didn't get to the promised land on Earth he did find his way there in Heaven.

The person I admire most in the bible is, of course, Jesus Christ, because He is my Lord and Savior and I am just amazed how he endured every pain. The second person i admire is Mary (the sister of Lazarus, the one who poured the perfume). Admire the way she worships Jesus and how she touched His heart.

Mary, Martha and Lazarus are very special people in Jesus life as we come to learn they are friends. Which shows at times Jesus did have some relaxing time to Himself to hang out with friends when they got together for dinner.
As for Jesus yes it is amazing He would choose to die and suffer for not only the people in His time but all of us who weren't even born yet. I love the movie The Passion Of The Christ it captures everything and the best religious movie I have ever seen. Even the relationship between Jesus and His mother Mary is so beautifully told.
If no one has seen it I highly recommend that you do.
