Hello here the power cut is from 1-3 pm now, this morning my daughter in law asked me to get some grocery from the shop on the street, it was at 9am, we live on the third floor of an apartment While in the lift going down , the lift stuck after crossing the 2nd floor, i kept on pressing the switches, but they failed to work, i had left my cell phone in room in a hurry, it was too hot in the lift cabin, the fan, light all went off I was sure it was power failure, but i felt annoyed because there was no battery back up, to my good luck the power came in 20 minutes Have you ever faced similar situation, what you did then? I talked to the watch man and care taker, even the owner of the apartments, but their reply was... 'Sorry Sir battery is damaged', i hate this Happy posting, cheers Professor

dear professor, i have had the same experience, twice! but mine happened a long time ago, during my college days. cellphone was not yet invented on those days. i was doing some on the job training in a hotel in downtown and i was in the ground floor going to the fifth floor when the lift stopped due to brownout, probably on the 4th floor. i was alone in the lift and that made me very uncomfortable, having no one to talk to while waiting for the light to come back. and while time ticked it started to get hot there and i was perspiring. but i tried very hard to remain calm. i was holding some papers which i used as a fan. it took about 15 to 20 minutes before the generator worked. it really could be very annoying.. and scary. cheers! ann

It is a terrible thing to be held up in a life for long. That happened to me. Once time I was going up to the 5th floor of my office building when the power just went off. It is a good thing the security guard saw me riding the lift and he immediately called the other security guards to open the elevator so I could be lifted up. I was terrified in that small cubicle dark and alone. Wheww! After some few minutes, the guards were able to open the lift and I was able to go out. I was fortunate enough for the lift was not caught in between two floor.

hello Prof, I never had experience like that. But,i bet,it would be a little scary for me being stuck inside an elevator all alone and, without any means of communication. This is one thing i am really scared of about elevator, being stuck. I would rather take the stairs rather than going inside alone in an elevator

hi professor! nice to hear you make out from that place safely. you were quite lucky. this never happened to me but the similar event happened to my one of the known friend. one morning he was asked to bring some drinks from the shop by his mother. when he heeded through the lift he got stuck at the 4th level. he tried everything even the emergency alarm, but failed. he got nervous tried calling her mother. it took 45 minutes to take him out of that place.

This is a horrible experience anyone can have. Last week I went to the library and I was caught like this. Fortunately light was there. I opened the lift door and I found out that I was near the ground floor door and the ground floor door had mirror. People saw me and made arrangements to open the lift.

I have only ever been stuck in a lift on one occasion a long time ago. I was OK and had confidence in the people in the store to sort things out and get it going again. But there was a man in there with me who was really agitated and stressed. I just repeating to him that it would be sorted out soon and he calmed down. I am a therapist, and I guess I have an insight into how to speak to people who are having panic attacks, but everybody responds differently to different techniques, and in this particular situation, just asserting with calmness that we would soon be out of there worked. _Derek

Hello Sir, Twenty minutes in a lift is so annoying and I am happy to know that you are safe. It shows the irresponsibility of authorized people who are taking care of this matter. They should take care for replacing the old battery and make sure that it is in working condition. I won’t prefer to use a lift for third story building and climbing steps is good for health.

Hello Sree dear Believe me since he has not replace the battery yet, we are searching one on ground floor and i prefer to use the stairs Thanks Prof

Oh je...that was a not-so-comfortable situation to be in. Imagine trapped in that small 4-walled lift with no airconditioner, fan or light... i do not know what i would be doing in the 20 minute ordeal. Maybe just sit there and wait and pray for the power to come back... It would be a disaster if you are trapped and at the same time must go to the toilet! lol

Hey i think thats pretty scary indeed! i mean to be held up in a lift that is. Specially when your all alone i just cant stand the idea at all ;) good thing your pretty much brave to stand 20 minutes of being held. I heard alot of ghost stories from those kinds of experience thats why i dont even think of getting myself held alone at all :(

I experienced stuck in lift at mall. But it's only for 10 minutes. However the lift was full and after that there is insufficient oxygen in there. And I kind of suffocated.

Hi Professor! Wow! That's a terrible story! I would have been so panicked! I have Claustrophobia and I wouldn't have really been able to breathe! I got stuck in an elevator with 7 other women and 1 man for about 45 minutes too! And the man was the first one out when the fire dept. came to get us out! And we were only a half floor from the Lobby! We could have jumped down if we had known!
