Scooby Doo is evil?

I've been having bible studies with the Jehovah's witnesses for over a year now. I have not found much that differs in their teachings from what I learned in my Pentecostal upbringing. However, they say that I must give up all things that are considered evil, or demonic. That includes any books or movies involving monsters or magic. Even something as innocent as Scooby Doo with their ghosts is taboo. Do you agree with that belief? What is your religions view on such things?

I'm Lutheran and I can't remember any teachings like that. And I haven't purposefully given anything up because it includes monsters, magic, etc. But then I don't have any books, movies, etc. that deal with those subjects, so there's nothing to really give up. Scooby Doo with ghosts? I don't remember any such shows.

Scooby is a Hanna Barbara cartoon. There are tons of Scooby series and cartoon movies. A lot of the times the "ghosts" were just the bad guys scaring people. And Scooby & the gang would always figure out the mystery.

If they could be so ridiculous about Scooby Doo then what else could these Jehovah Witnesses be ridiculous about? If they can tell you what to watch or read how else will they tell you to live your life. It is your life, do you really want to waist it by having someone else tell you what to watch or what to read?

There are a couple of things that differ from the JW's and your pentecostal doctrines. For one, Jehovah's Witnesses believe once someone is in hell, they can ask God and get out. The main difference though is that the JW's don't believe Jesus was God, or the son of God. They say He is actually Michael the archangel. As far as magic, you'll have to decide that one on your own.

Thats not what the JW's just taught me at the past couple of bible studies. They taught that Jesus IS the Son of God, just as I learned, but that before he was born as a HUMAN he did live along side God as a "spirit being". So far they have not said that Jesus is Michael. That could be coming though.

I am Catholic and they don't tell us what we can and can not watch. We believe in free will and have to live with our own choices in life. Yes we have the ten commandments to follow. We are going to sin a lot because we are man and human. When we do sin we just confess to God and are forgiven. We are have never been told not to watch Scooby, Harry Potter, etc. I have had christian friends and catholic friends who won't see Harry Potter and one who doesn't let his kids celebrate Halloween. I feel the only reason this shows would be bad is if you use them to worship the devil. If you are not doing that then you should be allowed to watch what you want. I love Scooby and he is as innocent as you can get. Not to mention very cute. The only question I have for you is are you comfortable with that and is this the religion you want to follow? You are the only one who can determine that. It is not my place to say if they are not teaching correctly. That is how they formed that religion. I don't agree with every single thing my church teaches but I am very happy there. If you are at peace and that is the only thing that is bothering you just don't tell them when you are watching Scooby. They are not going to know. I don't think you always have to agree with every single rule in any religion and if people are honest I don't they agree with every single rule in their religion either. Just pray about it and follow what God tells you to do. Peace

The whole forgiveness on confession thing has always confused me too. Its almost like a get out of jail free card, allowing a person to do whatever he or she may want to do, and as long as he or she goes to confession before they die then all is forgiven. I don't follow any one religion. I'm open to learn about all of them. As for myself, I believe in God and Satan. I believe in Heaven and Hell, and I believe as long as I do right I'm on the "right" side, and I don't have to align myself with a religion in order for God to love me.

Confession isn't a get out of jail free card. Yes God gave man free will but look around not everyone is running around doing whatever they want. We have to make the right choices in life and not go the wrong way. Just saying sorry and forgive me and walk away not trying to change is not the point. If you sin we are supposed to try and not sin again. Being forgiven gives you a sense of peace and you feel God's love surround you after you confess. I don't do whatever I want because I want to please God. I try as hard as I can to be the best I can be and to follow Him. Follow His commandments and what it says in The Bible. The most important part about confession is what is in your heart. God will know if you are truly sorry and not just saying the words. Even Jesus asked His Father to forgive all of his accusers as He was dying on the cross. That is why He came to die for all of our sins. I didn't join a religion so God can love me. God loves everyone regardless if they are in a religion. That is not the only thing Church is about. It is also being around a community of believers, it is a place where we go to get the body and blood of Jesus Christ The Messiah. The Church to me is God's House where we go to worship Him. It is wonderful you are asking questions continue to do so and when you are ready to will find the religion that speaks to your heart and where you belong. And along the way God will be guiding you and showering you with His love. He will lead the way you just have to follow. Peace

Being a Catholic, our rules are not so strict with that. Provided that you don't worship Scooby Doo or any other character. You worship only God.

Something I have learnd with Jehovas witnesses is that they tend to tell people what to believe and how to believe it. They wont allow you to date and marry any one who is not a Jehova's Witness, in school only talk to people within your religion in fear of being corrupt bu others. Personally I think it is all a crock. There isn othing wrong with having an imagination that just shows how creative a person is. Honestly I dont totally believe in organized religion. I am Pagan I am everything Your religion thinks is evil. The sad thing is.....Everything I do is for good and good only. I never do anything that would harm any one for any reason. Those who harm others are the selfish ones and do things for themself only. I do for others and there safety. All i ever say is "As long as no one gets hurt do as you will"

I think most organized religions tell people what to believe and how to believe it. I just try to live by the golden rule "Do unto others" and it seems to cover the basics.

I think a viewpoint like that is rather ridiculous. it's a cartoon. it's not demonic. lots of fantasy books have supernatural themes. lots of people read them. not all of them go on to believe in those creatures. I love vampire fiction. I do not believe in the literal existance of the supernatural vampire. there are human beings that crave blood for medical reasons. they are not the undead. so you can enjoy fiction without believing in the themes explored. I think there's good stories in the bible but have never believed them true. and there's nothing demonic about ghosts. even real ones.

Yep. I read tons of horror novels and watch horror movies. Blood and gore entertain me, but I don't think it makes me an evil person. I know its fake. I don't want to watch REAL people be mutilated and die horrible deaths.

Romans 14:4 I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean. Its bad because they think its bad. It doesn't really mean that something is bad its more like to thine own self be true, if you think its hampering you than that's for you to decide not someone else. Besides as others have already pointed out scooby doo always discovers the ghost and monsters are fakes in the end. On the other side of the coin there is a large amount of symbolism in cartoons, movies and commercials and a lot of it is subliminal. I think its more important to be in the know than just to try and shelter yourself from everything. Look up subliminal messages on youtube you might be shocked at all the stuff you find especially in kids cartoons and movies.

There is nothing wrong with getting a well rounded education and I for one always welcome the chance to learn about different religions. However, in this particular situation, for your own spiritual well being, I would suggest you search your own feelings and then make the judgment call for yourself. Do YOU beleive that Scooby Doo is evil? The mark of an intelligent mind is the ability to entertain a thought without acceping it as truth.

Hi nonersays, Do you really think that Scooby Doo is evil? It doesn't matter what any religion teaches, it really comes down to what you believe. The teachings of the Jehovah's Witnesses may be different from what you were taught as a child, but do you really want anyone to tell you what you have to believe? Jesus Christ, upon whose teachings all of the nearly forty thousand Christian denominations are supposedly founded taught a way of life, he also taught freedom not domination by the beliefs of any sect. Blessings.

i think you should believe what you are comfortable with believing and if you feel something is "innocent" then you should continue to enjoy it. i think some people just take things way too far and get so caught up in right and wrong and black and white.

Imagination is a good thing. The imagination has spawned insight and inventions since the beginning of mankind.Scooby Doo evil??? Isn't it just a bit of fun??? God wants us all to THINK!! and not go by strict wording.Let's not go over the deep end to the extremes and see evil when it isn't there. If you choose this route you can hurt more than any good you think you are doing. It's like some christians won't give their kids Christmas presents because it is Jesus birthday and forget Santa. Some even make out Halloween as evil. GIVE ME A BREAK, People!! THINK about what you are doing!! You are hurting more than you realize!!

Correct me if I am wrong, Jehovah witnesses is cult. They have diverted away from the real words in the bible. They distorted the words and meaning contained in the Holy Bible to suit their own beliefs and interest. Their believers turned preachers and go everywhere to spread their wrong interpretation of the bible while selling books and other written materials. They are actually doing business and making money under the pretext of spreading the good words of the christian bible.

Jehovah's Witnesses are True Christians that follow exactly what the Bible say's and Jesus example. They do not believe in the trinity and in hell both teaching orginate with pegan religions.

I would point out to them that none of the ghosts in Scooby Doo are actually ghosts. They are usually disgruntled employees of whatever institution they are investigating pretending to be ghosts. But it is a cartoon and even if they had cartoon ghosts, it's not supposed to be taken as real. Secondly, if you really think there's no difference in their teachings, ask them who they believe Jesus is. And make them tell you the whole story. It's not the same, trust me.

So far there have been no major differences in what I've learned. Jesus being the son of God and coming to help man repent of their sins and all. Of course we're just getting started good on Jesus so differences may appear yet.

nonersays, When a religion, any religion, starts telling you how to think or tells you what you can watch on tv, listen to on the radio, what books you can read or what music to listen to, etc., that's not a religion. That's mind control. God gave us the gift of being able to make are own decisions and choices and when any group or one person tells you what to think or do, then they are taking something away that was given to you by God. Are they saying that they know better than God as to what you can do or say? That you are incapable in making your own decisions or making your own choices? They've interpreted the bible to their own benefit so they can point the and say, "See, if it wasn't for us, these poor people would walk in front of a bus. We have saved them in the name of the Lord." Your choice. Either stay with something that you feel comfortable in allowing them to do with your life or find a religion that allows you to do your own thinking.

Oh please! Give me a break! If Scoopy Doo is evil then everything is! That is a bunch of hog wash and no wonder us non Jehovah witnesses think you are nuts! Jehovah witnessess are really, really, nuts! You don't celebrate Christmas, birthday's,Halloween and I think Thanksgiving! You people have taken the fun out of life! You take things to serious! Wake up and smell the roses for goodness sake! I believe what I want to believe. I don't follow the teaching in thr bible,I don't belong to a church, I haven't belonged to one in years,I have not attended church,it has been so long I can't remember when I last did! I call myself a Christian and believe in God and Christ. I don't believe you need to belong to a church, read the bible and follow it to be a believer in God. It is simple as that!

well I have always loved scooby doo even though it would have some monsters or magic in it and at the end you usually found out that they really weren't monsters or any magic just someone trying to scare people to make them go away and that was part of the fun and the mystery of it. I always enjoyed the show it was cute and fun and nothing would ever make me think it was ever anything but that and I always loved it and it was so funny and entertaining and part of the shows I loved when I was a kid and I really liked it when they made a couple movies with the scooby series and I can't believe someone who try to say that show cause it had ghosts or monsters could be considered bad.
