My camera is broken

My camera model - This is a picture of the camera I have that does not work.

I think my camera is broken, it turns on fine and everything else works but I cannot take pictures. Whenever I press the button to take a picture the screen stops like it is about to take a picture, but it does not. There's no flash or anything. I am thinking of getting it fixed, but everyone says I should just take it back and buy a newer and better camera but I like this camera because it has sentimental value to me. I have taken it everywhere with me and have had it before my dog died a year ago (I used to take lots of pictures of him with it). I also used to take it on lots of holidays with me and have taken hundreds of pictures with it. What do you guys think, should I send it to someone to get fixed or should I take it back and get a new camera altogether?

If your camera has a sentimental value and you really want to keep then get fixed,in other hand, the value of digital camera nowadays is even affordable, and your camera seems not really an old model,if still under warranty then its worth to bring it to the manufacturer, consider how much you will pay for repair and how much you get for a new camera then try to figure it out.Is it worth paying for each of these options. If the flashed is not working maybe there's some problem with the LCD you may know the cause when you get in the repair center and consider which way is better. Happy myLOtting!!

Hi cloud, I am strongly considering getting it fixed as I don't think it will cost that much. I am very used to using my camera so and would love to be able to keep it and not get a new one. If worst comes to worst and I have to get a new one because it can't be fixed it doesn't matter too much I guess, on the bright side I will be getting a nice new camera with lots of features like face recognition. I really hope it can be fixed cheaply though (fingers crossed). I will talk to you later cloud, thanks for posting on my first discussion. =)

I think you get to have fixed that camera and stored in your house because is a special piece for you. Then you can buy a new camera. Today there is a lot of choice and varity of prices and models.

If you can solve the problem of course it is better to keep the camera but if it is not repairable then you need to replace it.

yea, it will be sad if I have to replace it though, I just hope it doesn't come to that. Thanks for responding. =)

You need to repair it as long as you have money to pay. no matter how costly as long as you need and gives value to it . money is just money the sentimental values does matter at all.

Yes I think you're right, I am going to ask my mum if we can maybe go to a shop today and see how much it will cost to get fixed. If its not too expensive I will ask her if we can get it fixed. Money does matter a bit for me as I don't have much of it. thanks for your response. =)

I've got an DSLR I've planned to send in somewhere to get repaired, as I'll get more for it if I sell it used than it costs to repair. As for yours, whether it'll be financially sound to buy a new one or get the one you have repaired will depend a bit on how expensieve it is. You could take it somewhere just to check what it'll cost, if you're happy with the pictures and it doesn't cost much to repair it then it should be an easy choice. And if it'll cost too much, you could get a new one and just keep the old one anyway. Could be something jammed in camera, a friend of mine had problems with that once.

Yea it will depend on how much it costs as I don't have much money at the moment, also if I take it back to Costco they will give me a new one if I give them the old one. I hope that they can fix it cheaply as I want to keep it. I don't like the thought of getting a new one, the one I have may not be as good as some of the newer ones but I still like it and wouldn't trade it for a better one if it was working. I hope it is just something jammed in the camera like you said then it won't cost much to fix. Thanks for the response. =)

I will think about it. Really I don't need any more then it has, technology wise. It is quite perfect for me. My netbook has no space left of it, so can't put them on it. =/ I am thinking of getting one of those, really good, black cameras. You know the ones with the big lenses. Grant put your pic as a profile pic, you can do it in preferences.

The camera is one thing. If it is still under guarantee, take/send it back for a new one. Your photos are stored on a removable card (make sure that you remove it before you return the camera!). If the camera is out of guarantee, it's probably worth your while buying a new camera - but still keep the memory card.

I know it sounds stupid to get attached to a camera but that's just how I feel. I have had it for a long time. I could still probably take it as I got it from Costco and they take almost anything back even if you have had it for years. Thanks for your response (this is my first discussion). =)

My camera did exactly the same thing a while ago, and do you know what it was? The battery had run out of charge but there was no message to tell me that on the screen. I know it may sound obvious, but this could be your problem too.

I defiantly don't think it's the battery as the LCD screen turns on. I think there may be something wrong with the button. As I said I may get it fixed, but I'm not sure yet.
