Age means something for you when you have a conversation, or talk in same with anyone 18 years or 70 years?
Do you look in somebody profile to see how old he or she are?
You will be more respectful with somebody who is more older as you are? or don t care about age?
I ask this question, just because i read a discussion, where a very young person talk not very nice with somebody much older, and i ask myself if people really care about age or not?

In real life, I respect everybody but I tend to respect more older. Here, I am not looking on the profile before answering, and if I look only the avatar, I've already reply to many babies . Some members have removed their age from their profile, some may cheat : GoAskAlice is a myLot member since 99 years, but she is only 29 on her profile (I know, it's not polite to ask her age at a lady ) :

I removed my age too, just because i want let people respect me for what i say not because i am maybe older or younger, but i can say that sometimes i can know when somebody is older or younger, when i read a discussion...in short, i respect everybody, no matter age, but sometimes i don t like when a very young, don t respect somebody much older...is just my opinion

In my country, we call puberty "the stupid age" : it goes away quickly, and we have to accept this, even if we'll like a very young to show more respect for others. I saw here some good responses from very young members who have a bad myLot ranking because they are times to times disrespectful : it's sad.

Maybe it's a mistake, but i still believe that older people must to be respected, I can not move away from the education I received , the culture where i coming from.
all deserve respect, but i ll respect more a older person for sure, maybe because of experience, maybe because when i see a older person i see my parents...no doubt, young people are bright, have open minds, technology has probably helped a lot, but we must respect older, that is for sure.

I usually don't look at the age of mylot users unless I stumble onto their profile and just happen to notice it. Sometimes when I ask a question on mylot and a user gives me very good advice, I'll assume it's an older person. But still, I don't think you can tell how smart a person is just by the age. I think there are many intelligent young users here at mylot.

I take little interest in a member's age, it is the person theirself that really matters. I fail to see how a person 16 years old should not deserve respect while a person of 60 years old does.
I am currently 60 years old but I believe that I should still be respectful to younger people, providing of course that they deserve respect. I also believe that I should behave in a manner deserving of respect in order to earn it.

hi icesmile yes I sometimes look at profiles as I am curious where people are from and okay how old they are, but it doesnt really matter as I respect all people unless they prove to be insulting to me than I will just by pass that person. I find so many wonderful people here it is just amazing and so many times they come from far away p laces like in t he old song "far away places with strange sounding names, that I found in a book on the shelf" only I found them in discussions here on mylot and I have a lot of respect for those who struggle to learn English and m ake discussions .I do think the English language is really a hard one for non English speaking people to learn., So my hat and my respect go to those who really try to learn English and post some very nice discussions on mylot.good luck and God bless.

I've got to say that I agree with you very much, Hatley. Before I came to mylot, I was expecting it to be kind of like myspace or facebook or some crap like that and thought most everyone would be english speaking. Now that I'm here I see that I was wrong. I found a great community and I'm surprised by how many people are here that are not native english speakers and yet they are posting wonderful discussions. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's opened my eyes to see that there are so many wonderful people from all over the world here and sometimes I take things for granted as far as being able to fluently speak english. It seems to take a lot to learn the english language so I also have a lot of respect for those learning it.

I dont tend to look at a persons age unless they make some reference to it in the discussion or it seems relevant to the topic. If I get friend requests, I check the profile to see what the persons interests are and what sort of discussion topics they've started/responded to & you cant helpbut notice the age. (It does surprise me that I get so many requests from young people)
I think its not necessary to be rude to people whatever their age. We are all here to express our own opinions and respect the views of others irrespective of age, gender, culture or anything else.

You are very right, all time i come here to try to relax, to sit for an hour, two away from everyday life, where all we face all sorts of problems and worries, and i just do not understand why sometimes, people feel the need to offend or quarrel.

Well age do matters while interacting with an individual. When we chat with people who are older than us then respect automatically comes as we feel that they are more knowledgeable than us and have seen life more closely than us.So that we could learn something from them, that's why i probably respect older people and try to chat with them more often but exceptions do exist.

I think age is less taken into consideration when it comes to discussions. But respect these days are in short supply as some people have that weird behavior thinking they are young and more powerful while the age are 'redundant' lot. I have concealed my age in my profile because of one bad encounter in mylot where someone has said something like 'who is interested to a 50 years old discussion......' directly implying on my earlier discussion.

Hi Icesmile,
I actually don't check a persons age when answering. I do know some of our older members...I'm one of them but I don't give or expect special treatment just for that reason and I doubt most of them do. I try to treat everyone with the same kindness and respect regardless of age. Respect should be earned.

I do most of the times and i tend to avoid making offensive remarks to them . as long as possible i like to keep my sensitivity never to hurt them with my remarks. So I avoid being rude and like to be polite as much as i could and this kind of attitude of mine does not only indicate here in the manner of of my writing but applicable in real lives as well.

To tell you the truth I'm never curious about anyone's age on Mylot, as I don't think that age matters when dealing with another person. I will talk the same to a person younger or older than me, as I think that we all deserve the same level of respect, as we're all human beings

Personally, I don't care much about people's age, because I usually have a conversation with them sincerely and carefully no matter who they are. What I really need is our thoughts during the conversation rather than status.

It can go a few different ways. I don't care much about age, but if someone is telling me things from their experience I'll definitely treat them with the respect they deserve and listen wisely. Everyone should be treated with respect and shouldn't resort to name calling. That just shows immaturity and disrespect. Just like older people shouldn't talk down to someone that is younger just because of age. I hope my comment is clear enough. Things sound so much better in my head lol.

You don't necessarily need to know the age for you to respect one person. It is a must for me. Whether I'm talking with younger person or older ones, I make sure there is always a respect in words and ideas. I don't really look at profiles to know somebody's age. As long as everything's fine, I don't really care about it.
